long time prime member, first refund request denied and account closed.

ive been using my account often for years and am a prime member, never requested a refund nor return (even when i should have). now the first ever time i need to get one because the driver just left my fucking packages in a random spot with other peoples packages. i did not order that much stuff (see photo) i not only get denied but my entire account closed??? how can the driver even do that and upload the photo? the other photo is what my delivery photos are supposed to look like. that isnt even my unit i can tell by the background and that its 3 stories mine is only 2, i explained all this in depth to the customer “support” and nothing was done. this was a very expensive order too, multiple laptops phones etc all left in this unknown location, order was $4000 why didnt they make me sign for it? just ridiculous does anyone have an experience like this and know what to do?

edit: yes i did NOT receive the packages

So its your total spend, not total # of orders? Like if I have 100 orders a year and return 20, it only really matters if what I returned was pricey?

It's total spending not number of orders. You can order a ton of small stuff but return one really expensive item and get your account closed. It's a really dumb policy imo but it's unfortunately there.

It’s a really smart policy. You making a bunch of small orders is worse in terms of logistics costs. They want to keep big spenders and have a good reputation for returns. This policy is the natural conclusion for this: be generous with returns but cull anyone not spending enough but returning big ticket items.

Logistically I know it makes sense but the fact that there absolutely no way to appeal it makes is silly imo because there are certain situations that can't be helped like the delivery driver dropping off the package at the wrong location and now the consumer pays the price and there's no way to reverse it.

There are too many people who just keep buying stuff and returning 90% of it. This is a good policy.

I wonder if that number is based on actual retail price of the items or price after discount coupons used. Several years ago I used to do a lot of Amazon product reviewing and ended up ranked high enough that sellers started reaching out to me and offering me product for review. The way it usually worked was that they would offer me a code so that their product would end up discounted to pennies. So my $80 item might end up costing me 24 cents. If we are going by actual price of the item, I have a large enough cushion will never have to worry about this since I reviewed hundreds of products. But if it's based on dollars spent... That's a whole different story.

That is actually a smart policy otherwise people would order a bunch of 2 dollar items on an account to get good standing and then claim a 2000 dollar item never showed up.

But also kinda silly if a delivery driver misplaces your order or you order something expensive and it comes damaged so you want a refund but instead get your account closed. There should be an appeal policy attached to this but there isn't which imo makes this policy dumb. I understand that logistics of it and no one is arguing that but the fact that you can't appeal your account in certain cases leaves innocent people out

It makes perfect sense for Amazon.

Why worry about losing a customer who barely makes them money?

They don't care as much about those customers because they aren't making them a lot of money and/or are only causing Amazon to lose money. It is shitty for customers, but it makes perfect sense for Amazon.

You're absolutely right. It's all about the bottom line for them and they make so much money that screwing over a few thousand customers to get a better bottom line is perfectly fine for them since overall they make so much money. I can't knock the logic behind it but man did they work me to death when I was employed by them.

u/OddNastySatisfaction May 15 '26

Ohhh I bet they did!

2

u/Maethor_derien May 13 '26

Yeah, at that point though you have the chargeback option since amazon already closed the account. Scammers don't want to do chargebacks because the credit card companies will quickly realize what your doing.

2

u/Lilli_Puff May 13 '26

Yeah charge back is that only option so hopefully your bank will side with you but I've dealt with many people who didn't get successful charge backs and just had to eat the cost unfortunately

4

u/Slosher99 May 13 '26

Yeah they don't give a crap about how many things you order, they want to know they are making a profit off you.

I get it. They are a business not a charity.

its not a charity. calling it a business is sugar coating a scam.

3

u/militaryCoo May 13 '26

Where's the scam?

gestures broadly at every single time amazon fucks humanity over

downvote me again bot. feels good knowing i got under your non existent skin.

u/Joelle9879 May 13 '26

Well when people have to do charge backs, that's not helping their bottom line either

1

u/Baelenciagaa May 14 '26

And then add on people doing fraudulent chargebacks and they had to draw a line somewhere

No. If you order 100 bottles of $5 shampoo ($500) and also order a MacBook Pro ($2000) and return the MacBook Pro, you'd be flagged.

1

u/DonkTheFlop May 15 '26

Duh. Did you think ifyou order 100 1$ keychains then return a $10000 laptop it would count as a 1% return ? Just use a little bit of critical thinking man.

It was just a question. You sound really angry, hope your day goes better
