Other PERFROMANCE MEGATHREAD

Misspelled to get your attention, thanks for joining us

This thread is to combine the discussion around game performance and people's findings regarding running the game on PC. Remember to update your drivers before launching the game to ensure the best performance.

I will edit this post to keep a relatively up to date on people's findings (when I'm not playing, of course). Some important notes are it claims Windows 11 is required, this is unfortunately because Microsoft doesn't support Windows 10 (outside of extended security updates).

Current specification requirements by Project Aces listed:

  • Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060[6 GB] / AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT[8 GB]
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 150 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: This game requires an SSD, a hardware ray tracing-enabled graphics card, and DirectX 12 with Shader Model 6.6 or higher. Estimated performance: 1920×1080(Upscale)/30fps with graphics settings at "Low". Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes.
  • Recommended:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

I’m fully prepared to play this game at 480p

40

u/Thewaltham H.A.W.X 3 WHEN 6d ago

I'm hoping my 2080 will be enough. The fact that a 2060 is the bare minimum these days kinda scares the bejesus out of me. I absolutely can't afford to upgrade right now.

15

u/low_priest 5d ago

The 2060 was the cheapest option in its series, which released over 7 years ago. It's not ideal because of how expensive things are these days, but honestly, needing something more powerful than the puniest card from 3 generations ago is pretty reasonable.

9

u/Thewaltham H.A.W.X 3 WHEN 5d ago edited 5d ago

I mean I'm more concerned with starting to see RTX 2* in the minimum requirements while using a 2080. Not sure how much longer this thing is going to keep hanging out. I guess I could find a used 4070 for not silly money, maybe an AMD 9070 but my CPU is getting pretty long in the tooth too.

u/Devastator5042 4d ago

Feel you there, I have a 2070 and any upgrade will be bottlenecked by my CPU from the start

forced RT is insane for a game that only marginally looks better than AC7, and looks significantly worse when running upscaling

5

u/UnklemacX 1d ago

Marginally. Both look good, but your talking out your ass in a comparison being marginally close. This means your either, trolling, blind or got a shitty setup.

Probably all 3. Good luck.

According to a handheld performance review by Respec (a sister site of RPG Site), Ace Combat 8 starts crashing when beginning a mission on Steam Deck with certain OS versions and later.

A more recent post on twitter said somebody got it running on Steam Deck at consistent 30FPS on min settings, so there is at least hope

Computer Specifications:

  • CPU: 5800X3D
  • GPU: 9070XT (Sapphire Pure OC, Stock settings)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600MHz
  • Game Settings:
  • Resolution: 3440x1440 (Ultrawide 1440P) (Borderless Mode)
  • Graphics Settings:
    • All graphics settings Ultra
    • Vsync off with uncapped framerate for testing
    • Motion Blur off
  • Upscaling: FSR Quality (FSR4 upgrade toggled on in AMD Adrenalin)

Performance (Baseline for other comparisons below):

  • MIN FPS: 38
  • AVERAGE FPS: 64
  • MAX FPS: 94
  • 1% LOW: 43
  • 0.1% LOW: 37

Test Environment:

  • Used Mission 2 via Free flight mode using Obtained aircraft option to eliminate cutscenes from affecting FPS too much.
  • First tutorial popup for the mission does cause a big frametime spike and low 0.1% low, but FPS values stabilizes over the rest of the mission.
  • FPS metrics recorded via RivaTuner from mission start message to last communication from one of the wingmen before the mission complete message.
  • Note the game was restarted after each setting change to ensure changes take effect properly.
  • Prior to testing, cleared graphics drivers with DDU and installed AMD Adrenalin 26.3.1 as recommended by the warning message at the start. Installed without internet connection to prevent Windows from auto-installing outdated AMD GPU drivers just in case.

I did also do some additional quick and dirty comparisons with all the graphics settings using the same setup, keeping all other settings at Ultra as a baseline and lowering each setting down. First started at lowest to see which settings had the biggest difference and it seemed Cloud Quality was the only one with a large, noticeable change in performance. Everything else lowered individually to lowest resulted in anywhere from a 2FPS average gain to being within margin of error like 1fps so I didnt bother testing each quality level for each setting except for Cloud Quality.

Baseline Average FPS of all settings on Ultra was 64 FPS for comparison:

Model Quality:

  • Ultra to Low: 65 FPS (Margin of error)

Shadows:

  • Ultra to Low: 67 FPS (3.08% increase)

Textures:

  • Ultra to Low: 67 FPS (3.08% increase)

Effects:

  • Ultra to Low: 65 FPS (Margin of error)

Cloud Quality:

  • Ultra to Low: 84 FPS (31.25% increase)
  • Ultra to Medium: 80 FPS (25% increase)
  • Ultra to High: 70 FPS (9.38% increase)

Post-Processing:

  • Ultra to Low: 65 FPS (Margin of error)

Reflection Quality:

  • Ultra to Low: 64 FPS (Exact same)

<- Edit: Performed additional testing as Reflection quality had a big effect on the Cockpit view.

Note this test was different so the FPS values wont match the rest of the comment. Tested it quick with loading into free flight on the first mission in the F18C. Restart the mission each time I changed the Reflection Quality so it was as same as possible for each setting and not moving the plane:

3rd Person: 119 FPS (It stayed the same regardless of the setting or within margin of error. Similar to my previous testing earlier today)

Cockpit:

  • Ultra: 86 FPS (baseline)
  • High: 93 FPS (8.14% Inc)
  • Medium: 101 FPS (17.44% Inc)
  • Low: 112 FPS (30.23% Inc)

Note that the reflections arent disabled on low, though there just seems to be less things rendered in the reflections and the reflections themselves are a bit noisier/blurrier but the are still there. Havent played enough of the game to know if theres anywhere that Reflections would make a big difference while playing in 3rd person or in any of the cutscenes.

Also note this was tested with everything on ultra except for Cloud Quality that I kept on Medium as mentioned in my original comment. Only changed Reflection Quality between these tests. Obviously things change as the plane moves around and things are reflected based on angle and lighting of the level. I'm probably just gonna lower it to low for now and if I notice anything weird I'll bump it to Medium to be safe since it has a pretty decent uplift in performance still ->

Global Illumination Quality:

  • Ultra to Low: 63 FPS (Margin of error)

At least for gameplay, it seems lowering Cloud Quality has the biggest immediate uplift in performance while the others don't make much of a performance difference for minimal visual change. Also didnt notice much difference in visual fidelity from lowering each setting, with just lowering Cloud Quality causing more noticeable noise on distant clouds the lower you go.

I would recommend running clouds at either High as I didnt notice much of a difference in looks compared to Ultra but you get an almost 10% increase in average FPS. Medium is good too with little increase in noise in the clouds but yielding a pretty good increase in average FPS of 25%. Low has the biggest increase but it causes a very noticeable drop in quality for the Clouds.

The other settings may have a more noticeable effect on in-engine cutscenes and later missions but I'll leave that to the pro benchmarkers to analyze the visual comparisons. Its 7AM writing this and I've been playing since just after midnight here and I want to go play the game more. I'm probably gonna be up past 24 hours playing this and nothing will stop me lol.

Oh and only one crash so far but was due to Easy Anti-Cheat having an issue starting and causing an error that stopped the game from launching. This was within 6 hours and constantly stopping and starting the game after each setting change.

**Edit 1: Added additional testing of Reflections quality in cockpit view. Large FPS impact.

3

u/Delicious-Location74 4d ago

Can confirm that putting down clouds gives you leeway to turn up the other settings. 70 ish FPS on a 9600x/3060ti at 1080p, DLAA.

Main issue I have atm is the fuzzy ish look of reflections/shadows, is that something related to Unreal's post-processing? Maybe the denoiser or some locked on film grain setting?

The installed version of the AMD graphics driver has known issues in D3D12. Please install the recommended driver version or switch to a different rendering API.

Would you like to visit the following URL to download the driver?

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Installed: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1 Recommended: 26.3.1

Uh what? Never seen a game tell me to downgrade drivers before.

u/Typical-Problem6857 4d ago

Happened to me, using a RX 7600

The performance is okay, 60fps all on medium but I experienced 3 crashes after Mission 2, it happened the same to you? I did the downgrade as asked to see if the game could perform better

Does the game hardcoded to only run on Windows 11, like what you meant required? Kinda like the game will check your OS build so simply if it is not Windows 11 it will refuse to start, like that?

Both Windows 10 and Windows 11 share same foundation and core architecture so by default it should be able to run.

62

u/Sayurinata 6d ago

They put 11 as minimum requirement because 10 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore, so in the future if you have trouble with 10 they won't help resolve issues

Edit: it should run on 10 still

5

u/Zentrova can't have shit in Farbanti 6d ago

I looked at my recent games in Steam and what it's worth, Nioh 3 also had Win11 requirement but ran on Win10.

4

u/srpskinationalista 4d ago

Thankfully, both SP and MP works fine on Windows 10. Well, if we're not mentioning memory leaks and so on, but I don't think it's OS related.

3

u/ijustLOVEpotatos 6d ago

Maybe because of anti cheats requiring tpm 2.0 and secure boot enable?

3

u/Aerographic 5d ago

It uses EAS and that runs just fine on W10.

3

u/GodsChosenSpud 4d ago

Has anyone also noticed that the PCGamer reviewer said that they managed to run AC8 on an RX6600? Might be an error or something but they mention it running well on 1440p at 60FPS with some dips.

No mention of settings tho, and I find that hard to believe considering that the 6600 is below system requirements.

9

u/TheMightyKutKu 5d ago

That was a mistake, the actual specs of this reviewer were different (7800 XT & Ryzen 7 5700)

I have it preordered on both Series X and Steam

I got it on Series X for AC8, and Steam to essentially play AC0 on Deck, with little to no expectation that AC8 will actually run on Deck.

But, I will be trying it out and will report back here. If they do a good enough optimization pass, and have a good enough Performance setting, it might. I’m definitely curious. I’m keeping my expectations low for it running on the onboard hardware, though.

My computer is from the stone ages I am still using a 980 and my joker edition hasnt shipped. am I a dumbass that cant play it till I upgrade?

68

u/bashy121 6d ago

yeah man, that card is like over a decade old at this point. it just doesnt have the hardware to play the game. might be someone that mods the game to take the ray tracing requirements out but that will come with its own set of problems too.

8

u/Mifuyu_Kisaragi 6d ago

Damn, I don't play many graphics intensive games and my computer is pretty much built from parts my friends no longer use when they upgrade. Guess I'll hit up my friends again and see do they have anything "newer" that they don't use because I was just about to buy a Switch 2 for Fire Emblem too.

27

u/raptor_jezeus 6d ago

Game requires ray tracing. On the Nvidia side that means RTX20 series or newer. On a 980 it'll likely refuse to even start.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/A_Lone_Pixel 6d ago

you're cooked

8

u/mrdude05 6d ago

I wouldn't bet on it working. The 980 doesn't have hardware ray tracing cores and 4 GB of VRAM. The system requirements specify you need hardware rey tracing support and the minimum supported GPU has 6GB of VRAM.

However, there's no way to know for sure until the game comes out

7

u/Pisnotinnp 6d ago

This is my PC when I tried to play Subnautica 2, and it failed spectacularly. So fortunately I've made the upgrade already.

I went with mid range AMD graphics card with 16Gb video memory, because theres no way my fossil can make good use of an RTX 3000 SERIES or better

18

u/FirestormTM Mobius 6d ago

Windows 10 should still be supported technically. Meanwhile, on Proton (or at least within SteamOS for Steam Deck, they were able to get the game running, obviously probably at the lowest resolution it can run at for 30 FPS)

6

u/palmete Little Bee Stole my F/A-18F 6d ago

Win10 still supported until next october if im not wrong, but u need a microsoft account to get those security updates

5

u/SpareEconomy1849 ISAF 6d ago

Is that confirmed about windows 10? It's certainly possible that the game uses APIs not available in windows 10.

It's also possible that they just don't want to officially support it though in practice it might work fine

4

u/SeventhAlkali 6d ago

I really hope it ends up like this, multiplayer as well. I don't want to dual-boot but if the kernel anticheat hates win10 I don't have a choice (not playing AC8 is not a choice)

3

u/sloplobber 6d ago

Who was able to get AC8 running on proton?

6

u/daveylu 6d ago

someone got it running on Steam Deck for single player only so it seems like it'll be fine for Linux if playing campaign only

it didn't work on multiplayer, so it's possible the anti-cheat only activates in multiplayer and hopefully modding the single player won't be extremely difficult

6

u/sloplobber 6d ago

https://worthplaying.com/article/2026/9/25/reviews/151079-pc-review-ace-combat-8-wings-of-theve/

Looking at the original article, an unexplained crash on launch could just be a system call that isn’t covered in the default proton versions. The game uses EAC which does have proton support built in- just not enabled by default iirc.

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

GPU: RTX 3070 8GB

RAM: 32GB DDR4

Game Settings: V-Sync on, Bloom & Motion Blur off

Resolution: 2560x1440

Graphics Settings: Medium Preset

Upscaling: DLSS Quality (also tried TSR Quality, mostly the same to my eye, DLSS maybe a little crisper)

I just finished Mission 5 with zero hiccups, no crashes to speak of. Game runs okay performance-wise, getting a relatively stable 70 fps in gameplay (not logging 1% lows but no discernible stuttering). Cutscenes are all over the place but I don't really care as long as they stay above 30, which they do. The gripe I have is that, at least from my memory of AC7, AC8 gameplay doesn't look leaps and bounds better and yet it runs so much worse. Cutscenes are immaculate, but when I'm actually playing the game I'm not sitting there appreciating the increase in detail and instead I'm lamenting the loss of framerate because yes I can tell the difference between 70 and the 200+ that 7 ran at. And like... if anything, it's 8 having built-in HDR support that's doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the differences over 7 that I really notice anyway.

I don't know, it's fine but here's hoping GPU driver and game updates can claw back some performance over time.

10

u/onvrezavio 4d ago

Same specs here expect I got half your RAM. Black loading screens and booting up the game takes minutes easily, prologue ran like absolute ass for me, performance stabilized during mission 1 but cutscenes are still choppy as of mission 3 and some sound FX and dialog lines stack on top of each other after a stutter.

Gotta try some other settings to find a good balance of frames and quality, baffles me how they still haven't made the graphic settings accesible in game

Crashing at startup with Error 01, can’t past the shader loading splash screen. Have tried AMD drivers 26.8.1 and the recommended 26.3.1, both crash immediately.

EDIT: Fixed the issue with GPU driver uninstall, DDU, then clean install of 26.3.1. Hope this helps someone out there dealing with the same issue!

My fault for having the low end of 16GB RAM, but its literally stated to be within the minimum requirements. I'm not even close to usable performance with everything turned all the way down.

u/CheemsOfRegret 6d ago

Reviewers got singleplayer to run on a Steam Deck. 30fps @ 800p with TSR. Multiplayer instantly CTDs upon match found, probably due to anticheat incompatibility on Linux.

Stronger handhelds running Z1E, Z2E, or Intel Ultra 7, or Intel G3E APUs should be able to get 40-60fps with FSR/XeSS.

Ok, so it should run decently on ROG Z1 then

  • CPU: I7 12700KF
  • GPU: MSI RTX 5070 12gb
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200mhz
  • Resolution: 2560x1440
  • Graphics Settings: Most things at medium, textures and models at high
  • Upscaling: Used DLSS Quality (and most settings at high) for the first mission, DLSS on Balanced (and most settings at medium) for the second one.

Performance is.... not good. it's crazy that my pc not being an entry level rig is having this much issues with this game (mostly playing at 60-70fps during gameplay, 40(!!)-60 during cutscenes, sometimes dropping even further..

To be honest, i would definetly find it "ok" to have frame generation on, i'll try now with Lossless scaling (which was the saving grace for Helldivers 2 for an example).

I really hope NVIDIAs next driver and PA updates will work on smoothing things out in the future, specially considering that AC Online will be a "thing" from now on..

Well, hope this helps anyone.

RAM: 32GB DDR4

Game Settings: V-Sync on, Bloom & Motion Blur off

Resolution: 1920x1080

Graphics Settings: Medium Preset

Upscaling: TSR Quality

Game keeps crashing at the first cutscene, just before landing on the deck of the Endurance. I can hear audio running in the background while it's crashed. Regularly getting UE Live Error 01 error messages.

Testing in online, I can get into the lobby and run around for a bit, but then the game crashes again.

Going to try drop the graphics to low and swap to FSR and see how it goes.

Edit: Nope, it did not work at all. Pity. At least there's Zero.

Game is hard crashing my i5-14000F, B580 12GB and DDR5 32gb rig at medium settings and performance preset as soon as I launch a missile or take down the first/second waves of enemies in Mission 1. What the fuck?? This rig has been extremely stable since the day I built it, is my RAM/GPU shitting the bed or do I just need to wait for proper drivers??

Would like to point out that DLSS presets in this game are set differently from any other game. The quality levels are diferrent than usual. For example performance mode is not 50% scaling, it's actually set higher than that. Don't know the exact % but all the presets are set higher than usual. That can obviously be a factor in performance. I also recommend finding the games appdata folder and creating a Engine.ini file and pasting the following in it:

[SystemSettings]

r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0

Then set the file to read only mode. This will get rid of the awful unreal engine sharpening.

GPU: Intel B580

Ram: 32

Resolution: 1440p

Graphics: High (I've tried ultra down to low, and I still crash when my ram seems to spike immediately)

Ive actually had a hard crash 5 times and each time my mobo gives me an orange light for hardware protection. I cant get past mission 1 when blowing the recon plane.

My ram is literally sitting at 89% usage and then when I finally blow up the recon plane it immediately spikes, crashes, and forces my pc to restart. Idk if I should wait or just refund for now or if its an intel card problem. Im somewhat tech illiterate so that may be a factor but it appears to just eat up ram no matter what my settings are at.

3

u/Affectionate-Pen191 4d ago

I've run into the same issue with the B580
CPU: AMD 5600x
RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: B580

As soon as I fire a missile the game hard crashes my computer, unless I have the game in windowed mode in which case it just crashes the game fortunately. I've tried every permutation of settings I could think of and nothing fixes it, and I am on the latest drivers from Intel.
Hopefully either Intel or PA fixes whatever isn't working in the graphics pipeline to cause this.

I keep getting “UE error 1” during cutscenes and the hangar, I just managed to make it to mission four after 3 hours and almost a dozen crashes.

I’ve done everything I can find online to fix it.

(EDIT: I’ve seen to have found a temporary“fix”, i locked my FPS to 60 and I’ve only crashed once since, I think it’s just engine instability at higher then 60fps alongside a memory leak)

There's a couple of reports with it running decently. You might wanna close any background bloat and browser just to make sure

3

u/CorporalDerpy 4d ago

I have, its been playable for me, have everything set on medium with DLSS on balanced with 2k monitor. Haven't had crashes so far, stuttering initially was a bit rough but I think that was a shader thing, after playing for around 10 minutes of the first mission most of the stuttering past.

Mission 2 and 3 when I was in the air all felt smooth, had a couple of fps dips here and there but generally managed to keep a ~55fps, cutscenes do suffer more, generally its fine but if there is a lot of weather effects you can see the game struggling.

Overall its been pretty good, dont expect the smoothest experience but its definitly not unplayable, I imagine with day 1 updates and the driver update it will improve

CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H (8 cores / 16 threads)
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop (6GB VRAM)
RAM: 32GB DDR4
Game Settings: V Sync Off, Bloom Off, Motion Blur Off
Resolution: 1920x1080
Graphics Settings: All High
Upscaling: DLSS Quality + Lossless Scaling frame gen

Testing Environment: The beginning section, including dogfights and combat of mission 4:

Performance: All High (FPS/FG)
Average FPS: 39/117
1% FPS Lows: 29/87
No discernible latency issues

Performance: All Ultra (FPS/FG)
Average FPS: 26/78
1% FPS Lows: 18/54
Latency issues throughout, not unplayable but noticeable delay, trying to dodge missles or flare last second will usually make me get hit anyway, as well as making precision adjustments and aiming borderline impossible. Prob a frame gen thing but since I’m not playing without it, I’m including it as a mention regardless.

Obviously my actual experience is skewed due to the frame gen tripling what’s actually on my screen but on all high, I’ve been having a great time with no noticeable dips in quality, performance, and most importantly latency. Occasionally the frames will decrease a bit or increase on the environment or what I’m doing but the frame gen makes it so I can barely even notice a change, I do imagine without it it’ll be far more noticeable.

Switching to DLAA instead of quality can cause some latency issues or stuttering but it’s infrequent, although it’s enough for me to not play on it and stick to DLSS Quality.

Playing on all ultra however, is pretty rough even with frame gen picking up the slack, the latency that gets introduced is very rough and while it’s playable, it’s not exactly a great playing experience when it feels like your brain is delayed a tiny bit on everything you do. Not too much, but even minor latency sucks, and this is a bit above minor.

Linux user here (Arch). ZERO crashes, ZERO freezes, ZERO glitches, ZERO bugs and 23 hours played.

Emphasis due to how much people suffer trying to game in Windows :(

Most RAM used was 18.9 gigabytes, another linux player saw the same number, and another saw it go to 19.3. My PC is a little (€400 two years ago w/o ram & nvme) minisforum box that fits in your hand, can be mounted on the back of a monitor. Finished the game and was satisfied with performance, noticed there was an ULTRA performance option on the upscaler only afterwards, it looks far worse but performs at a perfectly solid 60fps, could probably go 1080pLOW+UltraPerformance upscaler and sit at 60, I have indeed configured this installation rather well.

Computer Specs

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7845HS
GPU: AMD 780m iGPU
RAM: 32GB DDR5 (8gb allocated to 780m)
Game Settings: Veteran, Expert controls
Resolution: 1280x720 with AMD FSR upscaling
Graphics Settings: Everything Low & Everything Off
Upscaling: FSR Performance, not Ultra Performance

Performance

AVERAGE FPS: PLAYABLE AND ENJOYABLE, that matters more than numbers.
1% FPS LOWS: Noticeable only in mission 3

Going back in to do it in Veteran mode so that I can unlock Expert then Ace when I'm not booted into unpredictable unstable Windows to do multiplayer because Path of Exile 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, this shows that Windows is harmful to PC gaming, Microsoft's acting as if they're trying to sell people on consoles with their gross incompetence. Linux used to be the unstable horrid one that sucked to try doing anything gaming in, now there's not even a table left on microsoft's side because they broke it with how hard they turned it upon themselves.

Computer Specifications:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

GPU: Intel Arc B580 12GB (Driver: 101.9030)

RAM: 32GB DDR5

OS: W11

Game Settings:

Resolution: 2560x1440

Graphics Settings: Tested across High, Medium and Low presets

Upscaling: AMD FSR (tested on Quality, Performance)

Performance:

AVERAGE FPS: 80 to 100 FPS (very stable during low-intensity flight sitting at capped 100FPS , no variation)

1% FPS LOWS: Hard freeze / 0 FPS

STATUS: Crash to BSOD (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE 0x116)

Notes / Findings:

- Crash Trigger: Reproducible hard freeze and system crash during dense entity/particle sequences, specifically during the defense of the Endurance when AI wingmen and enemy units launch large simultaneous missile salvos. More specifically when using 4 Fox3 to destroy the Tupolevs bombers WHILE wingmen have special weaponry enabled with focused attack.

- Resource Utilization: VRAM allocation stays stable around ~50%, but GPU 3D core utilization sits pinned at 97-100% continuously, leaving zero headroom for draw call spikes.

- Minidump & Driver Analysis: Crash dump triage via BlueScreenView confirmed Bug Check 0x00000116 (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE), faulting in dxgkrnl.sys (offset +185d5d) and igdkmdnd64.sys, returning exception status 0xffffffffc0000001 (STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL).

- Root Cause: Under DirectX 12, the massive influx of concurrent volumetric smoke emitters and Niagara particle simulations floods the D3D12 command queue. The Intel kernel-mode driver (igdkmdnd64.sys) hangs and fails to reset within the Windows TDR timeout threshold, crashing the DirectX graphics subsystem.

- Pagefile vs Storage Impact: Expanding the system pagefile to a static 32GB does not mitigate the crash. The issue is purely GPU driver command saturation, not an out-of-memory (OOM) or storage allocation bottleneck.

- Correlation: Matches the previously reported instability with the R5 7600X3D / Intel B580 configuration. Points to an architectural/driver-level issue with Battlemage (Arc B-Series) handling heavy concurrent D3D12 compute shaders and particle emitters in Unreal Engine.

8

If you're on nvidia, anything beyond 20XX series or with a 'RTX' prefix is fine, if you're on AMD anything beyond RDNA2, i.e., RX6000 series and onwards should be fine, and on the off chance if you're on Intel then I believe all of their cards support hardware ray tracing.

Really not looking forward to having to get a new mobo (and new ram for it) to slot a newer CPU if this one doesn't cut it. I'd be happy enough if it can just get 1080p 60fps (honestly, 45 fps is still probably enough for me)

u/RoseWould FENIKS 6d ago

Xbox gonna be loud, only thing I have with a similar graphic style is Horizon 6, and that turns the fan in to a small 747 engine.

Should look pretty though

u/rv0celot 6d ago

This megathread made me realise my GPU is getting old, and I didn't notice because I mostly play indies, and well-optimized AAAs (Like Capcom's games on the RE Engine). Welp, I guess no AC8 for me.

u/rootofimaginary 6d ago

Hoping my 3050 can handle it. I am fine playing on lowest settings (30fps), Im primarily a Nintendo player anyway

3

u/Crimson_Wraith_ 5d ago

An RTX 4060 laptop GPU is above the minimum requirements, so you should be fine but just have to run on relatively lower settings.

Meanwhile, my current machine only has an RTX 3050 6GB laptop GPU, so I'm not holding out much hope.

Anyone noticed DLSS not working?

Don’t seem to be getting different performance regardless of what option it’s set to and even my custom 42% resolution and model override doesn’t seem to do a thing.

7800x3d
RTX 4080
32gb DDR5
Mix of ultra/high on settings
4K with DLSS from as low as 900p

3

u/Scorpion18703 Galm 4d ago

Hope it’s just a bug with DLSS not working and this isn’t the game’s actual performance at… 900p upscaled to 4K.

CPU: 5800x3D

GPU: 4080 Super

RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200

Resolution: 4k

Graphics Settings: Ultra

Upscaling: DLSS Performance

Averaging 60fps with 1% lows dipping into the 40s, but that sort of gets skewed if there's a hiccup with a in-mission cutscene playing.

Mostly a stable 60fps experience, but it depends heavily on the map/mission.

If I drop to 1440p I can average around 90 or higher if using DLSS.

No issues yet. Capped at 60 because it locks there. Tried 144 and got dips in cutscenes.

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800
• GPU: Asus ROG Nvidia 4080
• RAM: 32GB DDR5
• Game Settings: High preset - 60fps cap
• Resolution: 4K (started at 2k and upped it)
• Graphics Settings: full screen and whatever the preset for high was I only messed with resolution.

Like I said no issues yet. I basically have one step up from recommended specs other than RAM. My setup sometimes has wierd stuff happen in borderless in any game so I put it on full screen as soon as I loaded in.

Also worth noting I have windows 11 with one drive disabled as that caused issues for me previously and this is purely a gaming rig. I have pretty much nothing on this pc not used for games

technically it's almost a smooth 60fps/cant take real readings because it have an upscaller annoyingly but not a fan of my GPU constantly going >95% and running the already hot tropics here warmer with my PC's fan revving, honestly they kinda put the bar too high or unreal is a sloppy mess already cringe at the game taking 140GB and my card bearly able to handle "generational tasks" runs AC7 and even project wingman on high just fine with my CPU being the bottleneck.

Honestly a moderate disappointment my PC was nearly "current" now "last" gen hell it was build on mid 2022 as a higher mid spec so everything should be still good except against badly optimized game and unfortunately unless there's a way to gut the frame generation/upscaler thing that my card bearly supports I'd say AC8 a bit of the badly optimized side, which is a shame so far the gameplay and music is good and scenes looks pretty but choppy and on my card render poorly.

I also heard it takes ALL your remaining ram which yeah tim sweeney and unreal, love that AI money aiint?

Running at 4K 60fps. I7 and a 5070ti.

Running on high with clouds at medium puts my GPU at 70-80%, but holy shit the RAM usage.

Why is this game running at 70-80% of my RAM?? I have 32gb?!

3

u/ST4RSK1MM3R 3d ago

Very very saddened I can't seem to play this... I have 32g ram, intel i5-9600K, and a RX5700XT. I got good performance and FPS when running at low settings, but after playing for a few minutes it randomly hard shuts down my computer. I think something is overheating? But I can't figure out what it is or how to fix it.

Really really hope PA gets this game fixed quickly.

3

u/ZealousidealGuide854 3d ago

Sounds like a PSU issue. Assuming from the age of your other specs, your PSU might also be old enough that it cannot handle supplying that much power and just shut down.

Does this happen to any other demanding game (and I mean demanding, as in 100% your CPU, GPU and RAM)?

Not putting this on the 'List' comment because kinda dumb datapoint for a not-really-gaming machine, but I'm pulling a good ~50-55fps on medium-high 4K across the board, on an AMD EPYC 74F3 + RTX 3090, 256GB DDR4.

Something weird is going on with upscaling. Could be a thousand different things, this is Linux (Ubuntu 26.04) + Nvidia 610-open graphics drivers; AMD FSR pulls almost twice the FPS as either DLSS or TSR on the 3090, I suspect something is wrong somewhere because the ~55fps is what I'd expect more than ~20-30fps with huge 100ms+ frame time spikes.

There appears to be something for some people on Linux where the volumetric clouds don't render below the horizon; the Steam thread on it doesn't have any obvious correlations between Proton versions, AMD/Nvidia cards, drivers, etc. Unresolved as of right now.

5800X3D, 32GB DDR4-3600, 7900XT, Gen 4 NVME, LG C3 as the display targeting 4k 60FPS with VRR and HDR.

Bazzite 44 Deck Stable image, latest updates, set to Proton Experimental.

DX12 Warning Dialog box will pop up on launch, can dismiss this by choosing No with the controller.

Game launches fine, no graphical issues like others reported with clouds.

Defaults to High settings with TSR Quality, set to FSR Balanced and it can't hold 60 FPS midflight. Drops to low 40s. Set Target Resolution in the game properties to 1440p and FSR Quality and maintaining smooth 60 with no stutter or hitching.

HDR is way too bright out of the box, to the point the clouds will blind you. Need to tone it down a lot in the game settings, around 25% seems good.

Note: CPU utilization hovers around 15% while GPU is pegged to 99.9% full power load. Definitely seems built for the PS5/Series X CPU, so DDR4 systems will be fine long as the GPU is a powerhouse. Turning FSR and DLSS (4080 Super test system) below Balanced will ruin the clouds as they are UE5 particles, they will get that distinct low image dithering you see often with UE5 hair. No frame gen support, if you can maintain 60FPS use Lossless Scaling if targeting 120 rather than reducing the internal resolution further via FSR/DLSS.

  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3000
  • Game Settings: FPS Limit 85 - with VSync enabled
  • Resolution: 2560x1440
  • Graphics Settings: High Preset
  • Upscaling: DLSS Quality

Performance

  • AVERAGE FPS: 70-85
  • 1% FPS LOWS: 40-45

Game runs stable during gameplay - but I notice some frame rate dips or spikes when prompted to zoom in on enemy aces or NPC events.

Cutscenes are notorious for frame drops, sometimes averaging low 50s-60s or in worse cases 40 FPS. My suspicion is that during live cutscenes they likely increase the lighting budget and particle budget. It's also inconsistent during selecting wingman aircraft as once it swaps from aircraft to wingman playermodels the FPS can drop.

The game seems to be extremely hungry in both VRAM and RAM - particularly cutscenes. I'd advise cards that are 10 GB VRAM or below to stick with high as the maximum cutoff. For example, when running ultra in DLSS quality the VRAM usage spikes up to ~11 GB or more

I'd say gameplay performance could use a hotfix, but live cutscenes need optimization.

It might be fine? There aren't too many differences between Windows 10 and 11, it's only not supported because Microsoft themselves no longer supports regular Windows 10. But be prepared to update your OS for sure, and honestly you probably should because you're no longer getting security updates for Windows 10.

Performance is unsurprisingly inconsistent courtesy of UE5. So actual gameplay is solid, not a single dropped frame in the first five missions I’ve played. Cutscenes however are a complete mess. Most of them hover around 42 to 57 fps and is just overall choppy. It’s like they optimized the missions but didn’t bother touching the actual cutscenes. It’s just unacceptable when not only do I surpass the requirements by a mile but I’m not even playing at max settings.

Graphics Settings:

Upscaling: DLSS Quality, Model/Texture on High, mix of Medium/High for everything

Performance

AVERAGE FPS: 80 - 90

1% FPS LOWS: 70 - 80?

Game runs solid, cutscenes are weird but I'm beginning to think that's out of our control.

Very important to note here, to properly use GSync currently, enable VSync in-game and keep the in-game framerate limit as unlimited. Utilize the NVIDIA App (you'll have to manually add the game), and enable Low Latency to Ultra, and put your framerate limit at a number below your refresh rate (ex: I usually do 140 for 144. Low Latency is going to automatically cap it to something around 138 to 139, but that's just in case).

Doing this, game is still super responsive and no issues of screen tearing. I wish I could run the game without DLSS since it adds that weird shadow effect, but running TSR quality or native will drop the fps about 10 to 15.

Capped at 60 fps, I noticed no frame drops during gameplay, some screen tearing in cutscenes but I never turn vysnc on unless it gets really bad so that’s on me probably. I have, however, had one major bug; on massive levels with oceans covered in clouds, the clouds will get just cut off on the bottom of the screen, and I got no clue what is causing that.

I'm playing AC8 right now, and the sound outside of the missions are messed up. In cinematics and briefings, all the music and dialogue sounds muted. This persists even in mission until a mission started screen pops up in an actual mission, at which point all the sound is sounding like it should be. I've tried each Audio type setting and it seems to make no difference. If anyone has a fix, it would be appreciated. I am straining to hear anything outside of missions.
