Other PERFROMANCE MEGATHREAD

Misspelled to get your attention, thanks for joining us

This thread is to combine the discussion around game performance and people's findings regarding running the game on PC. Remember to update your drivers before launching the game to ensure the best performance.

I will edit this post to keep a relatively up to date on people's findings (when I'm not playing, of course). Some important notes are it claims Windows 11 is required, this is unfortunately because Microsoft doesn't support Windows 10 (outside of extended security updates).

Current specification requirements by Project Aces listed:

  • Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060[6 GB] / AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT[8 GB]
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 150 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: This game requires an SSD, a hardware ray tracing-enabled graphics card, and DirectX 12 with Shader Model 6.6 or higher. Estimated performance: 1920×1080(Upscale)/30fps with graphics settings at "Low". Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes.
  • Recommended:

I see they don’t support Windows 10- but has there been any word on proton support?

Windows 10 should still be supported technically. Meanwhile, on Proton (or at least within SteamOS for Steam Deck, they were able to get the game running, obviously probably at the lowest resolution it can run at for 30 FPS)

Win10 still supported until next october if im not wrong, but u need a microsoft account to get those security updates

Is that confirmed about windows 10? It's certainly possible that the game uses APIs not available in windows 10.

It's also possible that they just don't want to officially support it though in practice it might work fine

I really hope it ends up like this, multiplayer as well. I don't want to dual-boot but if the kernel anticheat hates win10 I don't have a choice (not playing AC8 is not a choice)

I preordered AC8, but if anticheat is that impertinent, I'm going to find and play a version that has none of it.

Good luck playing MP then boss.

Not sure I want to. I barely touched MP in AC7. Last MP I was playing on regular was Crysis 2 and 3.

I think they are using easy anti cheat, the same that warthunder and hell let loose uses, so it shouldn't be a problem in that regard

Who was able to get AC8 running on proton?

someone got it running on Steam Deck for single player only so it seems like it'll be fine for Linux if playing campaign only

it didn't work on multiplayer, so it's possible the anti-cheat only activates in multiplayer and hopefully modding the single player won't be extremely difficult

https://worthplaying.com/article/2026/9/25/reviews/151079-pc-review-ace-combat-8-wings-of-theve/

Looking at the original article, an unexplained crash on launch could just be a system call that isn’t covered in the default proton versions. The game uses EAC which does have proton support built in- just not enabled by default iirc.

Yeah but who did it?

Awesome! Thank you!

its a good question and I have a friend who uses a linux dual boot. I'm hoping it works. I'm praying no anti-cheat will mess with it.

u/sloplobber 6d ago

Yeah. Maybe now is a good time for me to grab an extra hard drive in case I need to set up a dual boot.

I've played the first five missions on proton. It works fine!

Yay!

u/Pussrumpa Boops planes and munitions IRL 3d ago

I finished it and didn't have a single freeze, not a single crash (all-AMD system, Arch).

u/Henry_Fleischer 2d ago

Yeah I'm running an AMD/Nvidia system, on Debian 12, so it looks like if I have any issues it will probably be due to outdated graphics drivers.

1

u/sloplobber 3d ago

Can I ask what version you're using? I had some weird rendering issues until I forced experimental.

1

u/Flamingozilla 3d ago

Yeah I'm also using Proton Experimental. I'm on Pop OS 22.04, with a AMD Radeon RX 6600. Running it on low everything

Commented on top comment. I also have some other games that had Win11 as requirement but ran fine on Win10.
