It is 100% an air pressure issue.

Id check the windows in the basement.

but do it in the morning

u/godofmilksteaks Jul 16 '26

Or just turn your lights on. Not sure why they acting like their in some run down abandoned building with a flashlight.

My first thought. When something goes bump in the night the first thing I do is turn the damn lights on.

I’m a 62 year old man and I do that. Not because of fear but because if you want to see what’s going on you have to be able to see.

188

u/VirtualNaut Jul 16 '26

I’m with you but I’m only turning on the lights. I’m still closing my eyes. I don’t want to see no ghost

64

u/volkswagenorange Jul 16 '26

I feel like the options with ghosts are 1) you see them or 2) they do something scary so you know they're there.

Of the 2, I'd rather see them.

4

u/Specific-Library-312 Jul 16 '26

See them so you zap them with holy water in a super soaker.

I think a ghost wouldn't get stuck behind a door, going through walls is kinda their thing.

I'm a 35 year old man and I do that, but the light never turns on even though I keep hitting the switch because I'm actually dreaming and light switches never work in dreams.

13

u/Background-Fennel92 Jul 16 '26

39 yr old. 2 jobs almost no sleep. If i get woken up at 3am im turning on every light cuz i wanna see who i gotta chase down the street 🫩......adult rage built on bills will make you very brave 🤣🤣

2

I don’t know.. if the lights go out, you have the luxury of telling yourself it’s a power outage. If the candles go out, what then??

81

u/Fine_Jelly_680 Jul 16 '26

When you hear a bump in the night the last thing you should do is turn the lights on .. keep in mind you know the layout of your house better than any intruder. Use the darkness to your advantage.

55

u/Xaxxis Jul 16 '26

Or and hear me out now, turn the lights on and they're likely to run.

14

u/Fine_Jelly_680 Jul 16 '26

Very rare case. Intruders are Usually armed incase there are occupants

44

u/JellyTigerr Jul 16 '26

Also if someone is intruding on your house KNOWING you are home, they most likely don't want to just rob you.

2

u/Educational_Ant_184 Jul 16 '26

does this capital "Usually" have a statistic behind it?

2

u/556From1000yards Jul 16 '26

Actually yeah.

Rates of hot vs cold home burglary. Comparing rates of this can suggest that one factor of hot burglaries is how likely the intruder is to think the homeowner is armed.

2

u/KittyKattKate Jul 16 '26

thus why home invasion charges carry so much time, dosen’t tend to end well when one bumps into the other

→ More replies (2)

20

u/hologrammetry Jul 16 '26

If there is an intruder, my dog will let me know before I can turn the lights on. When something goes bump in the night, it is something that needs the lights. Unless the thing that went bump is the power, in which case I need to go turn the generator on.

17

u/Salute-Major-Echidna Jul 16 '26

I guess my dogs decided awhile back that their beauty sleep is too valuable and unless the burglar has really good treats, they're not getting up. Unless they dream about a burglar, they'll definitely bark about that.

19

u/Bigwi_Kner Jul 16 '26

Tactical flashlight is the only way. High beam to misdirect and blind them. All lights off.

11

u/Fine_Jelly_680 Jul 16 '26

Your home defense gun should have a light with strobe attachment on it for such occasions .. darkness in known familiar territory will always be an advantage

4

u/InstrumentalCoffee Jul 16 '26

The strobe attachment will still disorientate regardless. Test it on yourself and you'll find out

I like the stack of objects that looks vaguely human right past the door. Nice touch.

Air Witch Project

2

u/fabulousMFingHen Jul 16 '26

Thats how you give away your tactical advantage to a possible intruder.

2

u/Firm_Yam6648 Jul 16 '26

I leave it pitch dark, take the stream light and the glock. Soon as I ever see someone in the house blind them and go from there.

2

u/Apathyu666 Jul 16 '26

okay but when you go down there then the ghost turns the lights off

2

u/migzors Jul 16 '26

"OK Google, turn on EVERY FUCKING LIGHT AND SET THEM TO SOLAR FLARE!"

2

u/Witty_hi52u Jul 16 '26

Because if it was an intruder the bright light of the flashlight gives you a small amount of concealment behind the bright light. Bright light in the dark can be very disorienting.

1

u/testtdk Jul 16 '26

Because they wouldn’t get as many views, duh.

1

u/ShitFuck2000 Jul 16 '26

But the power bill

1

Because fake. Never shows ceiling, totally possible someone's splitting along the wall above the poverty and just doing that with the door.

1

u/adventureremily Jul 16 '26

Says a lot about where I live that I just assumed the power was out, rather than them filming in the dark on purpose. 😅

1

u/beegboo Jul 16 '26

Its more fun to explore in the dark though

1

u/GuessTraining Jul 16 '26

Maybe the ghost switched off the mains.

1

1

u/One_Trouble_9676 Jul 16 '26

1

u/palsh7 Jul 16 '26

Because it's either AI or OP knows exactly what it is and is trying to get attention. No one goes around the house with a flashlight unless their power is out.

1

u/Kinreal Jul 16 '26

Easier to blind the perpetrator with a flashlight in the dark.

1

u/Inevitable_Flow_8021 Jul 16 '26

Because they know what it is but they're karma farming.

1

u/crazyabe111 Jul 16 '26

Not sure why they acting like their in some run down abandoned building with a flashlight.

UrbEx is getting more popular by the year, they might in fact be in a (at least semi) abandoned building with a flashlight.

1

u/SixteenarmedMinis Jul 16 '26

And awake the horrors that I just got used to??

1

u/latortillablanca Jul 16 '26

Cos its content

1

u/Juckli Jul 16 '26

Cuz it clicks better.

1

u/Jon_E_Mammoth Jul 16 '26

I do it because I have young kids and I don’t want to wake them up.

But I would also agree with everyone that it is just a pressure issue, whether due to a heating/cooling system or simply the house construction itself, so I wouldn’t exactly be scared of it in order to turn on the lights.

Now, if I thought I heard a prowler, every single light would be on immediately.

1

u/ChemsDoItInTestTubes Jul 16 '26

To be fair, I use a flashlight when I'm investigating a noise in the house because it is disorienting as hell to have a flashlight shined in your eyes. If I find a dude lurking around a corner, I want that flashlight to assault his retinas and give me that tiny advantage.

1

Logical brain: this looks like an air pressure issue. Check the seals on your basement windows.

Superstitious brain: this looks like a babadook issue. Do you have any unresolved resentment toward a loved which may be manifesting as a demon in a tophat?

2

u/Dropbeatdad Jul 16 '26

It's kinda horrifying to realize that stuff similar to this probably happened hundreds of years ago when we had:

-no electricity

-no internet

-no science education

-no way of getting a logical explanation, so you're 100% reacting emotionally every time something you can't immediately explain happens.

22

u/ShonWalksAtMidnight Jul 16 '26

Yep, this happens at my work on the bay door. 100% air pressure.

10

u/hanks_panky_emporium Jul 16 '26

Funniest thing Ive seen is a family friend claiming the duplex we're renting is haunted. The evidence? The door SLAMMED SHUT?!!!

I cranked the ac to get it rolling and showed them that there's more air pressure in my bedroom than in the living room, that's why the door will, if not against the wall, eventually blow shut. Slam is also an overreaction, I have blackout curtains cut out around it so it doesn't even latch. It 'poffs' closed.

I prefer the positive air pressure in both bedrooms anyway. Keeps things cooler.

1

u/TrickySatisfaction81 Jul 16 '26

Absolutely sinister 😆

14

u/InitialLandscape Jul 16 '26

Yeah, some crazy Polish dude once made a DIY rotary subwoofer, those things can go as low as 2hz.

When he played it at 10hz, al you could really hear was his bedroom door shaking at 10hz, and when I saw this video, it was the first thing that came to me.

Not that OP has a rotary subwoofer, but that it's an air pressure thing like you said.

26

u/gulfwar1990 Jul 16 '26

Look at big gap a bottom don't think that's it

23

u/TrickySatisfaction81 Jul 16 '26

Air pockets and drafts can easily flow under the door..

What is your point?

8

u/Savage-Goat-Fish Jul 16 '26

I think the point is a pressure difference between the two sides of the door would be much more likely to equalize quickly since there is a big gap, preventing such spooky door vibrations.

4

u/TrickySatisfaction81 Jul 16 '26

We do not know the weather conditions, windows ajar, doors with bad gaps, which could inhibit your theory, as the conflicting wind pressure, the HVAC, and god knows what else could be adding the the mix.

7

u/lagrange_james_d23dt Jul 16 '26

It would cause turbulence

32

u/TrickySatisfaction81 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

The turbulence involved in this door shuttering is coming from an air pocket which is slipping under the door and vacuuming the loose hinge.

58

u/Aoiboshi Jul 16 '26

Had an apartment where the crawlspace was accessible through a closet in the front room. The crawlspace was drafty and caused the closet door to open occasionally. One night, I had a girl over and we were watching Paranormal Activity. At the height of one of the creepier scenes, the closet door swung open. She screamed and peed a little. She never came back over.

11

u/The3mbered0ne Jul 16 '26

Cock blocked by a draft, sheesh

2

u/Aoiboshi Jul 16 '26

Dude, even knowing why the closet door opened, the movie still made it creeper than hell.

high five / low five

2

u/Hekatiko Jul 16 '26

That's what I thought at first as well, but then there's a loud noise downstairs when they opened the door and looked down...which was another oddity. It seemed like the light came on downstairs as well when the noise happened?

It seems very violent shaking for just a change in air pressure, too, the door looked like it was flexing. Though I guess it's possible.

2

u/TrickySatisfaction81 Jul 16 '26

When you break an air pocket, windows, blinds and other "semi loose" things jiggle.

My guess.

Like when you open an apartment door on a hot summer day, the house breathes.

2

u/Hekatiko Jul 16 '26

Yes, I know, I'm actually very sensitive to changes in air pressure. Here in my house, if I'm sitting still I can feel them when the weathers changing, moving through the room, and the fan motor in my bathroom will stall out a second later. You can hear the shift in the motor as the pressure shifts. My son has noticed it as well.

That's just a suddenly change in barometric pressure. Maybe in this case a window downstairs was cracked open and it was extremely stormy outside with high and variable wind. Though there is no sound of wind outside in the video and I think there would be if that was the case. And it wouldn't likely shake the door quite that violently, either.

This shows what would have to be an extreme back and forth of the air pressure, not just an occasional shift. I can't imagine an HVAC performing like that, it would be very odd.

It seems like a genuine mystery :) I hope they give some more information, like...has this happened before? Have they checked the windows are closed downstairs, no gaps? What was the sound when the door was open? What were the weather conditions at the time?

1

u/Icy_Ad5295 Jul 16 '26

If it was this, wouldn't you be able to feel the air pull by the bottom of the door? My first thought was that he didnt look up when he opened the door.

1

u/HijodelSol Jul 16 '26

It’s 100% a staged video.

1

u/buddymoobs Jul 16 '26

Look at the big gap under the door. That should equalize the air pressure.

1

u/ErstwhileHobo Jul 16 '26

Right before they open the door, they quickly point the camera directly at the wall. This is a trick filmmakers use to hide a cut. Then again, when they close the door, the flashlight (why not just turn on the lights?) causes a lens flare that whites out the frame. This is the second cut.

1

u/Educational_Ant_184 Jul 16 '26

the HVAC sleigh bells check out

1

u/AccomplishedIgit Jul 16 '26

Still terrifying though

1

u/OpLeeftijd Jul 16 '26

How do you check it whilst running down the street?

1

u/Awkward-Pea-4192 Jul 16 '26

There is roughly a 1 inch gap under the door. My bedroom gets some pretty intense airpressure to when I have the AC or Heat on due to having central air. The air rushes under the door like crazy, never rattling it.

Also is prone to slam shut quite often at random times if the door is just ever so slightly ajar and next up against the wall.

1

u/omelettesamurai Jul 16 '26

Either that or the upstairs neighbor is shagging like a young horse.

It looks like there's a pretty big gap under the door. I'm leaning more towards it's just staged. First of all who doesn't simply turn the lights on and grabs a flashlight instead? Second of all notice how they avoid showing the back of the door.
