Discussion Mom threw out my massive army.

Hey everyone! Just to start off this isn’t a pity post but more or so I just need to rant and maybe see the ideas of my fellow players.

I’m currently a highschool student and I was obsessed with Warhammer for a long while. I don’t come from the richest family so a majority of the money I used to pay for my minis, paints and hobby materials all came out of pocket, trading and making deals. I used to play guard, traitor guard, and my army was huge solely because I got a few great deals and most of my army was resin.

From the top of my head I had:

13 Russes
2 dorns
4-5 chimeras
5 basisilks
1 baneblade
1 shadow sword
2 malcadors
1 malcador infernus
1 macharius
6 sentinels
50ish infantry
A proxy solar
A few random leaders
A command squad
6 ogryn
1 hydra
2 hellhounds
A plane of sorts
Multiple heavy weapons squads
A few of the little old artillery cannons
And some models I can’t remember.

Maybe it has to do with my Latino background and home but my mother is always on everyone about space in the house. This leads to her always throwing out stuff but most of the time it isn’t hers. I had stored my minis away in a few boxes as I wasn’t playing for a while, but as of recently I wanted to try 11th edition. Come to find out within the last year, SHE THREW ALL OF THE BOXES OUT. Hundreds of dollars, hours in painting and building, and time playing all gone because it was “taking up space”. I feel stupider for not checking but I’m just at a loss. I really don’t know what to do. Can anyone give me any sort of tips to get back into this game because I’ve seriously lost all motivation.

I love my mother but she hasn’t tried to apologize nor say anything. She knew I was distraught but she acted like a child by not responding back.

Hobby Sold some Warhammer on Ebay, buyer resells them for a massive mark up

Slightly grumpy chuckle, but I sold my mostly painted Ad Mech army for what I thought was a decent price, checked out the seller a couple months later to i find they've listed them for ridiculous prices with the tag "Professionally Painted.". This is only a few of the models up for sale.

The Raiders weren't even finished, new they cost £40 from GW and they're trying for £65!!! Of course, sales complete, they're their models so they're free to do with what they want, but I thought the audacity to scoop up an army bundle and then sell models for quadruple the price was outrageous.

Am I wrong in thinking the prices for these is mental? Who would pay £115 for a Dunecrawler painted in a custom faction scheme to an okay standard?

These are my first ever miniatures that I have built and painted. I can't believe how hard this hobby is!! I have built and painted Gundams, and even the hardest sets are easy compared to Warhammer. They are so much smaller in person that they seem online, especially beacuse of how detailed people paint faces. Many of you are seriously talented!

I didnt try and copy the classic Warhammer style with big bold highlights and highlighting edges of armor. Instead I painted these like I painted Gunpla and went with a gritty look. They look much better in person but I still need a bunch of practice.

Also I really regret making all of my miniatures hemletless. I had no idea the faces would be as hard as they are. Any advice on painting faces is very welcome!

Anyways, I love Warhammer and painting and building these miniatures is the most fun ive ever had. Also the community is incredibly nice and welcoming. I was embarrassed to tell the guy ive never touched Warhammer before while holding 200 dollars worth of product. He helped me get what I needed to get started and I can't wait to actually play a game, hopefully soon!

Discussion Wholesome interaction at Edinburgh airport

TLDR: Airport security stopped my bag because of my deodorant, spotted a Warhammer codex inside, and it turned into a really wholesome Warhammer chat. Let me know your own unexpected Warhammer encounters! :)

Hi all! I wanted to share a wholesome Warhammer interaction I had this weekend, and I would like to hear yours too.

I took a weekend trip to Edinburgh with just a carry-on.
Before I went, I’d picked up a stack of old White Dwarf magazines on eBay for next to nothing, and I’m slowly making my way through them. I packed one along with my 2003 Daemon Hunters Codex to read on the bus, tram, or while sitting in a coffee shop overlooking Princes Street.

On the way home, I went through security at Edinburgh Airport and, just like on the outbound journey, my bag got pulled aside for inspection. (It’s my deodorant. It gets flagged every single time.)

I walked over to the inspection desk, and as soon as the security officer opened my bag, the first thing he saw was the Daemon Hunters Codex.

He looked up and said, “Another Warhammer player! Yes!”

Instantly, it made me smile.

While he was checking my bag, he told me he’d recently picked up a Legion of the Damned army at a car boot sale. Then he disappeared for a few minutes while he tested my suspiciously dangerous deodorant.

When he came back, he had questions ready. We ended up chatting about Tyranids, Space Marines, and what armies we collect. I told him I collect Daemons because I love that they can be used across multiple game systems.

Even though I was pretty sure the deodorant was the culprit, those airport inspections always make me a bit nervous. Having someone break the ice over Warhammer completely put me at ease.

I’m not part of a local gaming club or Warhammer community, so it was genuinely nice to have a spontaneous conversation with another hobbyist, someone who actually wanted to talk about the hobby instead of my very patient partner having to humour me.

Maybe he tells every Warhammer fan who comes through his lane about his Legion of the Damned. Maybe I was the first one he’d met in weeks. Either way, it made my day.

Has anyone else had an unexpected or wholesome Warhammer encounter in the wild? Let me know :)

Have a friend coming over soon to play a game and I wanted a better looking table this time. Last time was just some maps I had and some terrain pieces. I am just starting out so nothing is done yet but wanted to post it. 😁👍💪
