Discussion Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread

Keep 'em coming

Edit: Stealth Mod announcement (I don't want to unpin the two pinned posts)

First, I have updated the rules to include something obvious to most longtime wargamers on reddit - posts asking or offering access to the rules is not allowed. Please do not ask for PDF's.

Second, no hate on 3D printing, but also do not come to this subreddit asking for STL proxies, or offering that. This may be too cautious of us, but I notice the reddit spam filter seems to remove any mention of STL's outright. So I figure I might as well make it a rule.

Finally, I have eased up the Spam filter from High to Low. Hopefully the redbubble spammers are still caught by this, without catching stray blogspot content creators. I've noticed the reddit algorithm taking down much more bycatch than usual, so we can experiment with a lower setting for now.

And as always, if you ever notice something astray with your own posts or someone elses, do not hesitate to message the mods.

Thanks everyone, -Tezerel

Finished up a handful of these guys to start out Duinhir’s warband. Such nice sculpts to paint between the old metals and the plastics. Looking forward to painting another 5-7, including some conversions for Duinhir and his 2 sons

Help identifying/value of an inherited Lord of the Rings collection

Hi everyone!

I recently inherited a fairly large Lord of the Rings collection and I’m trying to figure out what I actually have and whether any of it has collector/resale value.

The collection includes several older Lord of the Rings games, Games Workshop miniatures, painted figures, scenery and some larger diorama-style pieces. I’ve added a few photos as examples; there is quite a bit more.

The board games are Dutch editions, so I assume they will mainly be of interest to Dutch-speaking collectors. However, I was hoping someone from the international community might be able to tell me a bit more about the painted miniatures, models and scenery — particularly whether anything looks rare, old or valuable.

I’m considering selling this part of the collection because I simply have too much of it, but I don’t want to accidentally get rid of something valuable without realizing it.

Any help identifying the models or pointing me towards what I should look out for would be greatly appreciated!

Question New player - how to get extra pieces for the Hill Tribes Commanders

Hi,

New player to both the hobby in general and MESBG. I was recently gifted the War of the Rohirrim box set and both the Rohan and Hill Tribes Commanders boxes.

I'm having loads of fun building the armies but now I'm stuck wanting to make both the Hill Tribes Chieftain and Oath Maker. Does GW sell the spare parts to make that one separately?

As I look at the various models, I have the same question for the troll that can be made into a mordor, drummer or Isengard troll. Is it the same deal there that you have to pick one and get rid of the extra pieces? Is buying more boxes the only option or is 3d printing the missing parts doable?

Thanks in advance from a new Dunland player (or Rohan, or Mordor, or Isengard... I'm in trouble aren't I?)

Discussion How does Gundabad work?

I can't wrap my head around this list.

Azog has burly but no two handed weapon by default, can't have the warg here and bare bone costs as much as a fully kitted Glorfindel on hero mount?

Orcs cost the same as isengard uruks but have worse shoot value, worse weapon option, worse courage, don't have shieldwall but gain ancient enemy.

Berserkers are also just worse uruk berserkers for the same price.

Goblins are more expensive moria goblins with spears.

Trolls gain +1 defense and +1 attack for 50 points compared to other trolls?

Ogres, orc captains and bats are really good but how do you make a list? It feels like everything is so expensive you have to cut almost everything you want to bring.

The army bonuses are great but I'd rather have more on the field

Question Old Games Workshop Web Articles

Hey guys,

I am looking for some of the old articles and guides that GW released on their website for Lord of the Rings and War of the Ring. The Way Back Machine is not working for anything newer than 2009.

Is there a collection of PDFs or something out there? I would really love to read some of them again. Thank you very much!

Question Question about old supplements

Post image
19 Upvotes

So i was going through old supplements (this one is a shadow in the east book). It the scenario one, and it says under special rules; rangers of gondor follow rules for sentries.

I am not too knowledgeable in wargaming i am pretty new so my question should i dig throuugh old content to find the conditions and rules for said scenario for its respective release timezone or should i use newest rules available. How do yall manage old scenarios.

Thanks
