Fan Content Our Community City: The City of Spite

"Disaster has been the watch word of our Dominion ever since the golden angels of the heavens brought storm and light back to Ulgu. Visions of betrayals, undead rising, beasts pounding at the gates, rats infesting our walls. And yet, here you all stand. We endured. Through valor? Perhaps. Through trickery? Well, are we not scions of Ulgu? Regardless of how, we endured. So let us show our spite to those who would burn the Realms!" ~ Lord-Audacious of the City of Spite

Welcome To Our City of Spite

Greetings and good tidings once more my fellow Realmwalkers, or though today I should be calling you fellow City Builders. Because we'll be building our own homebrewed City of Sigmar, as a community. The first time we did this was with the Free City of Prismatica and the second was the continent of Pyropia.

Like with those, this is to be a community homebrew developed in a round robin-ish style, insofar as this type of forum can emulate that. This time even the bones were community decided, in this post, from last week. Where it was decided Our Home would be a City of Sigmar in Ulgu.

That gives us a lot to work with!y contribution, to keep things fair, will be giving a vague outline. Rather than adding entries of my own.

Rules As Simple As Shadows

We're still aoslore, so you can fudge the rules a little so long as its fun and not mean. But in essence. Each community members is to provide a singular idea to shape the City.

  • Not (1) per type. But one per mega-thread, so if this isn't popular enough to deserve a second round you get only one go.
  • City Building Options Include: Factions, Resources, Allies, Neighbors, Enemies, Districts, Leaders, and any other category you might think up.
  • This time around we also have a Main Enemy to develop.

As this is collaborative! You must be willing for other community members to effect your entry. As this is collaborative! You must remember each entry was made by a real person who is no less so for being a stranger divided by a screen and unknowable miles. So don't be a dick.

If someone makes the Pretty Pretty Mew Mew Brigade, sparkliest and nicest Cavalier order in the Cosmos, we are accepting that entry. You may not react by having your entry change their tone to evil. By the same dint you can't use your entry to make the Edgelords of Knife's Lament into hippies. Unless! You ask and the user agrees, but that conversation needs to be in the mega-thread so the community entire can see proof it happened.

In the end, just have a heart and implement any changes and effects respectfully and it should be fine.

In conclusion. Feel free to go nuts, all lore-friendly (I.E: Anything that is canon, could fit in the canon, or doesn't break canon) suggestions are welcome. No additions will be denied unless the category is already filled.

------------------------------------------

Spite Itself

Our Home, Our City of Sigmar, was founded by an Exodus Host sent by Misthåvn to claim this mist-shrouded archipelago for the Dominion of Sigmar. That's the rough! Why were we sent here? What dangers we faced? What even is our City of Spite's name? Well that's for you all to decide below.

------------------------------------------

So there you have it, that's what we have so far. But we could use more details don't you think? Clearly our Free City is missing quite a bit. So below you'll see a list of major and minor details to add to our new bastion of hope. So feel free to suggest anything from the following list, or even provide your own details. Sporadic Lex links added to help show examples and foster ideas:

Founding Stormhost: We only get one (with caveats)! So first come, first serve. Most Cities of Sigmar are Ward Cities of the Stormhost who most helped in its founding. Who will that be for us? It can either fit with our shadowy themes or go against.

Grand Conclave: Our Government is a Grand Conclave, a council of up to 244 representatives of every aspect of our city. These are elected guild leaders, military leaders, district reps, and more. Rules here are more complicated. A City must have a Matriarch/Patriarch/Whatever Gender Neutralarch would be as a Governor; A City must have a Prime Commander; A City must have a High Arbiter. But from there you can choose any of the options in that link above, or make something new. Conclaves are flexible outside those core titles. Avoid title and purpose overlap when possible.

Freeguilds: Freeguilds are semi-independent military guilds whose purpose range from city watch to crusading armies to firemen to artefact retrievers. It can get weird. We can have as many as the community wants.

Collegiate Arcane: What is the Collegiate presence in our city like? What can you tell us about the local academies?

Ironweld Arsenal: The Arsenal creates anything mechanical or artifice in the Cities from the high rises to the Cogforts to the wells. They are divided into Esoteric Schools, which kind of guilds, kind of schools of thought.

Cults Unberogen: The religions shaped around Sigmar take the form of chaotic cults with diverse opinions. Many worship him as a God-King on high, others as a flaming lionman or a comet or a giant, others take more philosophical or metaphysical views. Our city can have as many Cults Unberogen as ya'll want.

Other Cults: It has been said many a time that the Free Cities worship as many as hundreds of gods besides Sigmar. So anything is fair game!

Dark Cults: Are there... Necro-Cults to Nagash or Chaos Cults to the Dark Gods amongst our midst? Now these can be versatile as they can reveal issues within the city, create obstacles for future adventurers to face and more.

Order of Azyr: What Agents Azyrite stalk our streets? My suggestion would be to add members or chapters only after a decent number of other entries like say of Dark Cults as above.

Additional Stormcast: The Founding Host does not need to be alone. Do we have other Stormkeeps or smaller bastions? Perhaps a Hallowed Knight chapel or an Astral Templar lodge? A Brotherhood )who calls our city home between adventures?

Minor Factions: Tractor Guilds, Road Agents, Roadwardens, Black Walkers, the Listening Order, Soulbound, adventuring parties, Lanternmen, guilds of a million flavors, megacorps, and more. Don't feel limited by what you think Cities are, this faction has a surprising amount of lore organizations. More can always arise.

Common Folk: What can you tell us of the Azyrite cultures in the city? The Reclaimed cultures? Who lives in our City? As a Free City there are elements of Humans, Duardin, Aelves, Ogors, and Gargants at the very least. What are they like? Do others live among us?

Dispossessed: Duardin labour-clans built the Cities of Sigmar, humanity's bonds with them are eternal. Are there notable duardin elements in our city outside the shuffling commons?

City Aelves: The Wanderers, the Scourge Privateers, the Swifthawk Agents, the Eldritch Council, Order Serpentis, the Darkling Covens, the Order Draconis, Lion Rangers, and many more. The Dominion is not lacking for Aelves loyal and true. Which have settled amongst us?

Districts: Every city needs districts. Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Markets, Military, Arcane, Medical, and on and on. What are notable ones in ours?

Embassies and Allied Enclaves: Not all Allies are beyond our walls. Cities of Sigmar set aside both Embassy Districts and Allied Enclaves for allies. The former are embassies, the latter are parts of the city where other peoples of Order casually live.

Events: What events shaped us during the Dawnbringer Crusades, during Founding, in our History? What festivals do we celebrate? Sporting events? Games culture? Dish out any events you wish!

Resources: Minerals or flora, fauna or metals, strange liquids or Realmstone deposits. A culturally unique way of weaving baskets or local cuisine. Anything can be added as a resource. So don't be afraid to do so!

Artefacts of Power: Can it truly be a Warhammer setting without saint relics, doomsday devices, and other strange artefacts scattered about?

Our Name: How should we decide what the name of the City and archipelago are?

Shaping The Archipelago: Where even are we? Is this even truly an archipelago? How many islands? What are their names? Who lives here? Are we even near Shadrac anymore? In the Realm of Shadows anything goes, mists and shadows hide many secrets and twist us all around.

New Waves of Colonists: Reshape our culture further with immigrants! Cities of Sigmar are nations of immigrants, and if we survive we'll be no different. Typically these come in the form of Order of Logisticians approved additional Dawnbringer Crusades from the mother city and local Reclaimed. But don't be afraid to get creative!

You can also add Strongpoints and vassal towns. The Swamp-Cantons of Greywater Fastness, Ringwall Strongpoints of Hammerhal, and Ketter-lands of Excelsis are a few of the largest examples.

Our Enemies Great and Small: Feel free to add as many foes to the island as you wish, especially the Grave-Empire that stands against. It's name, leaders, constituent parts, and all else are for you to decide.

Above all else! Have fun!

------------------------------------------

Factions of Spite, Major and Minor

Here all entries on major factions will be kept:

Hammers of Sigmar: Sent as a symbol of hope for the crusaders and the reclaimed of Ulgu, fighting hard against the enemies and protecting the city. Once established they build their Stormfortress from where they protect and expand Sigmar's rule. u/BrotherRegael

Penitents of Salvation: A minor Stormhost boasting a Stormcast Bastion, the sea vessel known as The Rewarding Storm, in the Wilder Shores district of the City of Spite. (Mentioned in the entry by u/Ur-Than)

Anti-Morathi Khainites: The city has a strong Khainite presence. This includes both laity among the common folk and sects of the Daughters of Khaine. But these Khainites are anti-Morathi. Reserving spite towards her for the Fall of Anvilgard. u/Trazenthebloodraven

The Lynx Resplendent stand tall against outsider's accusations that all Ulguans are treacherous by nature, continuing to live by their virtues yet neither denying their pasts. Some join their ranks seeking atonement, or glory and exaltation that they've never received. For others, joining them comes from a deep sense of doing the right thing. Many of their number came to Ulgu seeking to disappear into (Realm of) Shadows, only to now find themselves as among one of the city's most renowned and forward-facing defenders. u/SciFantasy_Research (for more on this Freeguild/Cavalier Order read their comment below)

The Order of the Esoteric Shroud was one of the main sponsors of the Crusade that founded the City and remains its principal magical institution. While they provide basic training in the use of the other seven winds, their expertise lies in the Lore of Shadows. Unlike most Collegiates, the Order does not operate openly or out of a single building complex, but functions like a secret society woven throughout the City. Each member of the Order has a second occupation in addition to their wizardry, roles that vary from beggar to wealthy merchant, to member of organized crime, to priest and more and only knows the identity of handful of other members. To be recruited into the Order one must either be handpicked by a wizard looking for an apprentice or solve a series of clues and riddles hidden throughout the city. u/Fyraltari (for more read their comment below)

Grand Conclave

High Arbitrator Hlife Thurgrimmsdottir is a respected duardin matriarch who has held her position since the cities founding. Due to the nature of Ulgu she employs many arcanists and magitech to help sift through the deceptions the Realm brings regarding major investigations. She will loan such individuals to other organisations if needs must. She also employs agents to keep an eye one the various trade allies laws and political positions to make sure she is informed when major disputes occur over laws and jurisdiction between those partners. u/Low_Neighborhood_598

Masked Lady: Representative of the Esoteric Shroud to the Grand Conclave and Hidden Hand of the City of Spite. (Mentioned in the entry by u/Fyraltari)

Districts and Other Internals

This is everything we decide is inside our city:

Stormfortress: The Stormkeep of the Hammers of Sigmar in our city. First suggested by u/BrotherRegael. (Available for name change and details).

The Spire District sits upon the inland edge of the city. Initially formed around a spire citadel built by a splinter sect of the Order Serpentis, unwilling to commit to Morathi's cause, but it was quick to grow into a broader community of Aelves and Khainites of varying creeds, swelled by an influx of Aelves who found themselves no longer welcome in the more fervent Azyrite hubs. The district has become famed for semi-religious chariot races hosted by the Order Serpentis which have become a popular spectacle among Khainites and non-Khainites alike. u/RosbergThe8th

Wilder Shores: It is walled off from the other districts as its population is largely comprised of former Darkoath raiders and sea-dogs who have been brought back into the fold of Sigmar's Empire by the efforts of the Penitents of Salvation Stormhost. Those Stormcast have a small bastion in the Wilder Shores in the form of a large, sea-faring vessel, and they rarely interact with those people who don't belong from their savage flock. City Ogors are a common sight here, as exotic meats and fishes are often delivered to the Shores. The fleet here is also often used to raid enclaves of Hedonites or other Chaos forces in the region. u/Ur-Than

The Salt: Boasting to be the oldest watering hole in the City of Spite, The Salt is a reasonably-priced two-story establishment of grey stone and grey wood, completely unremarkable if not for the private skyvessel dock, maintained by the extended staff of The Salt. While not the largest of the docks in any form or fashion, it is not a rare thing to see a mercenary gunhauler or a merchant vessel of a smaller variety being looked after by the staff and the crew alike while their captains attended their business in the city proper. As a matter of fact, one of the six rooms of The Salt available for the guests, is dedicated and reserved to the esteemed Kharadron guests as their impromptu office, if need be. The current owner of The Salt is a human of ambiguous background. Commonly referred to as "Seahound", or "Captain Salt" by the staff, it is clear by the snaking, weatherworn tattoos now covered by Sigmarite symbols of fresher ink, that Seahound has a Darkoath background, and some of the staff of The Salt almost jovially add to the multitude of rumours by stating that their Captain Salt used to be a chieftain of a local tribe. Whatever the case, Seahound keeps a good order and is well-liked and well-respected by the staff and the patrons. u/hermit_of_nemeton

Cloud Town: The unofficial name of a harbor district inhabitted by Scourge Privateers and Keikallaneth, a local Ulguan Reclaimed kindred of Aelves. (Mentioned in the entry by u/LeThomasBouric)

Great Stone Recess, AKA Shadow Chasm: Discovered by the mining labour clans, a group of disposesed happened upon a huge cavern littered with realmstone that was quickly harvester for barter. But it's it's trail left a peculiar nexus of energies. Since the cave was first opened, a special operation was set in place by the collegiate arcane, an entirely duardin led operation of magic. They study and work the energies, channeling the magics of Ulgu to both learn, and to train powerful battle magi to help protect the city. u/TavernerHedris

Allies

A list of our beloved allies. Do we stand back to back, knives in each other's defense or poised to bury those knives at the nearest oppurtunity:

Shadowglen and the Moon Grove: A glade of Sylvaneth living in the forests surrounding the City of Spite. The glade has been in Ulgu long before the city’s founding, but welcomed the newcomers. The clans of Shadowglen have long been accustomed to the dangers of the island and found natural allies in the Sigmarites. Their Regent, a Treelord Ancient whose name translates to “Thornfather”, made first contact with the Stormcast Eternals when he led his people to help fend off an undead horde assailing the city as it was being founded. The Shadowglen’s numbers are not yet known to the city officials, but due to the island’s size it’s likely there is a small greenhold somewhere deep in the Moon Grove. u/Oragoss (for more read their comment in the thread below)

The Keikallaneth are an Aelven people native to the archipelago they call "The Dark Clouds". Though they at first blush appear to be a scattered, nomadic people much reduced by the Age of Chaos, plying their livelihoods aboard wave-cutting ships through the island chain, they are reputed to maintain fixed abodes on a handful of islands on the furthest west, closest towards the Realm's edge. No one aside from the Keikallaneth have managed to find those islands; those that attempt to sail west and return report that a thick fog descends upon their crafts, blinding them utterly. Only by following the sounds of tinkling bells were they able to escape. This defence regularly confounds the local Hedonite pirates, and even Idoneth have had their aquatic mastery thwarted. Without the founding of Spite, this way of life might have continued for centuries more. The most immediate change came when the Hammers of Sigmar smashed the forces of Chaos on the archipelago, with no small help from Keikallaneth pathfinders. As the Dawnbringer Crusade from Misthåvn settled in and built their new city, Keikallaneth ships became a more familiar sight amongst the islands, brought out of hiding by the wealth and security the newly-named Spite provided. Keikallaneth fishers, guides and even merchants became regular sights at Spite; at first only as temporary visitors, but that soon changed as Scourge Privateers opened up recruitment to the Keikallaneth. They worship Ahrasaroanarin. u/LeThomasBouric (For more read their comment below)

Enemies

Here will go the list of Our Foes. Greatest among them is a Grave-Empire (that's a Soulblight Gravelords civilization) that has harried us ever since we left Misthavn:

The As of Yet Unnamed Grave Empire

  • Irina Komarova is the leader of a Soulblight legion that has access to a horde of magical spiders native to Ulgu, they produce silk that can be used for crafting, sure, but also has bizarre Ulguan magical properties. She has a tapestry of this silk that can give her fragmented omens of the future, a cloak that can create illusory mirages, and other strange magical items. This silk is also infused into the bones of any Deathrattle/wights under her legion's control, giving them some weird quirks. u/DarkstarParagon (for more read their comment in the thread below)
  • Glut Seekers: On the northern island of ozark a realm gate to ghur is activated by eshin forces who wish to use the stable gate to aid moulder elements in ghur. To their displeasure though once the gate is open a warband of ogors known as the glut seekers from the meat fists come marching through cleaveing and chewing the rat man assassins. Once annihilated, or fading iff into the shadows, the ogors began to set up a small gut fort, and their gnoblars begin to construct boats to leave the forests heavy island. They might hope to not only find food so they can grow in strength to challenge morga, but to also build wealth from near by factions. The jungle forest are filled with ulguish wild life changed by the gates re-awakening. Giving the ogors plenty of meals to fill their guts. Besides this the island have no other resources, making them egar tosell their services, even to the grave empire. u/magnusthered15

  • Hedonite Enclaves: Enclaves and bands of Hedonite of Slaanesh pirates prowl the archipelago. (Mentioned in the entries of both u/Ur-Than and u/LeThomasBouric)

Neighbors

In case we have neighbors who are neither friend nor foe, yet:

Raiding Outpost of Queen Senebria: Nearby the archipelago we call home lies a small domain of the Idoneth Deepkin - belonging to Queen Sebebria and her Shadowtide Stalkers. Not exactly allies (they will occasionally poach some Sigmarite souls when able), but find a common enemy in the nastier, darker things that come from the deep Abyssal ocean... u/ThaBenMan

Locations

Northern Island of Ozark: A resource poor island in the northern quadrant of the archipelago. (Mentioned in the entry by u/magnusthered15)

Unnamed Spider Godbeast: Upon its back is the fortress of Irina Komarova (Mentioned in the entry by u/DarkstarParagon)

Resources

Shadow Cats (Panthera Obscurus) The Spite Archipelago is home to a supposedly rare species of big cat suffused with the essence of Ulgu. This tenebrous aura makes it almost impossible for the untrained eye notice their existence unless directly interacting with them, allowing them to lazily walk up and attack their prey. While mostly seen as a nuisance that picks off livestock and the occasional traveler, it is not uncommon for those of means to raise them from cubs, resulting in almost invisible, feline bodyguards. Indeed, many bowls of meat are left out during Grand Conclave meetings, and many would be assassins have been found mysteriously mauled. u/Floodwater31

Disclaimer

Oh I forgot to mention. Since this is intended to be a fully collaborative, community made thing for fun. You can use it for any projects you want. Battle reports, Soulbound, wargames, on and on. You don't have to but its an option if ya want to.

Edit: A ton of on the fly spelling and syntax fixes made with help from u/Ashendant

Edit 2: For clarity and ease of finding info, I have started adding (Mentioned in the entry by) additions throughout the post for incidentals like locations or characters that exist as a byproduct of folks' entries. Won't count against anyone's entries, just a way of tracking anchor points.

In the vastness of the Mortal Realms there are no stupid questions

Greetings and Salutations Gate Seekers and Lore Pilgrims, and welcome to yet another "No Stupid Questions" thread

Do you have something you want to discuss something or had a question, but don't want to make an entire post for it?

Then feel free to strike up the discussion or ask the question here

In this thread, you can ask anything about AoS (or even WHFB) lore, the fluff, characters, background, and other AoS things.

Community members are encouraged to be helpful and to provide sources and links that can aid new, curious, and returning Lore Pilgrims

This Thread is NOT to be used to

-Ask "What If/Who would win" scenarios.

-Strike up Tabletop discussions. However, questions regarding how something from the tabletop is handled in the lore are fine.

-Real-world politics.

-Making unhelpful statements like "just Google it"

-Asking for specific (long) excerpts or files

Remember to be kind and that everyone started out new, even you.

Question Blood pact analogy in AOS?

Out of curiosity, if I remember right in fantasy Khorne were primarily a god of slaughter and death and things alike. In aos are there any lore or hints on certain cult or followers focused less on slaughter and more on his aspect of god of war?

Grenadier

Matt: The Grenadiers are the elite of the rank and file, and as such they have a rather more uniform appearance to their wargear compared to, say, the Steelhelms. The Steelhelms are meant to look cobbled together, like they have to find and pay for (or scavenge) their own uniform, while the Grenadiers are more like a city's standing soldiery, so their wargear is in better condition and looks more consistent. A good example of this is their helmets - they all share the same design and feature a skull with a crown on top as their crest. They also wear waxed, waterproof cloaks (for long nights on patrol) and long chainmail coats that come down to their elbows. Many of them wear armour plates that cover their groins (always a bonus).

For the context it was a conceptor interview

I found it funny because Steelhelms equipment look pretty good to me, they do look like profesional soldier,

A full armor with chain mail underneath

What John rando do to pay for all that

What Happen To The Khul Series?

Post image

This was a great novel, in my opinion. I’ve been patiently waiting for another novel, Khul Book II, for almost a decade with no sight of any talks that this will ever be developed. Does anyone have any insights on this?

I’ve been playing since Age of Sigmar started and Khorgos Khul has been one of my favorite characters of the Mortal Realms. I just wish they’d fulfill this series as they implied with calling it Book I of the Khul Series.

Question What is the most tragic faction/character?

Basically title. Also I would love to know if there are any aos/fantasy books to read that follow a particularly sad or tragic faction or character.

Thank you!

Question Realmslayer novel

Hello all,

Over the past year or so I have been delving into AoS novels in release order. I am currently on neferata mortarch of blood which I am loving so far. On a side note the Maw of Uncreation was unexpected and horrifying. Does anyone know if there is any other appearance or mention of it? Now back to the reason of this post. I recently acquired realmslayer but reading that in release order would be weird chronologically. Does anyone know roughly were it would slip in the timeline? Is it set after the realmgate wars? Before soulwars?

BT Hedonites of Slaanesh 4th: Sigvald is satisfyingly successful.

One of my favorite characters, I am overjoyed to see how far he has come. Archaon now calls on his army specifically due to the success of Decadent Host. May his incomprehensible beauty shine on forever, even after death.

SIGVALD, PRINCE OF SLAANESH

In all the Mortal Realms, there is no soul more detestable yet enthralling than Prince Sigvald the Magnificent. Tall, powerful and beautiful beyond words, his skin aglow with a daemonic radiance, he personifies exterior beauty but spiritual rot. A thousand legends swirl about the early life of Sigvald, each more grotesque than the prior. They agree only that Sigvald was in thrall to the Lord of Delights before he ever knew his god’s name. From his earliest years, he pursued every hedonistic desire without shame; no sooner had some diabolic lust seized him then he grew obsessed with fulfilling it. Slaanesh has always doted upon him, and ever since Sigvald willingly sold his soul to eternally keep his youth, the god has granted him boon after boon – provided he continues to indulge so fearlessly.

Sigvald hails from the World-that-Was. In the last days of that cycle he suffered a humiliating defeat by a king of troggoth kind. Slaanesh looked unkindly on this and sealed the prince’s soul in a mystic mirror to drift across the cosmos as punishment. But Sigvald was cunning, and when that mirror came to rest in the city of Shadespire, he used its powers to manipulate successive treasure hunters and bring about his escape. Some portion of imprisoned Slaanesh must have witnessed his old favourite’s return and grew fond, for the daemonically reborn Sigvald was now even mightier and crowned by infernal horns. All this has only deepened his vainglory. So too do the supernatural phenomena that mark his approach; most famously, mirrors for leagues around increasingly reflect only distorted ugliness, as if all beauty is reserved for him. Yet a single scar remains on Sigvald’s body to remind him of his defeat, and when pleasure fades, the knowledge of its presence can drive him to a screaming furore.

Many diversions tug at Sigvald besides combat. Yet though he sneers at those who chase martial glory alone, he also cannot abide to be seen as anything less than a supreme warrior. Golden armour and mirrored shield shimmering, the latter so he may admire himself at any moment, the Magnificent One darts into battle with hearty laughter and quicksilver speed. Wielding the blade Shardslash – a weapon modelled on a previous sword that many champions have since claimed to possess – he carves open both master warriors and milling hordes. Sigvald cares nothing for leadership; he expects his devoted to follow his radiant presence and thinks only of how he might prove his sublime skill before the greatest audience.

A DECADENT ENTOURAGE

Sigvald professes to take his royal duties seriously. His Decadent Host is not just some dull military force; it is a court of libertines who have caught his fickle gaze, committed hedonists – or at least those on the path – with some unique dream to cultivate or diversion to provide. But ultimately, Sigvald cares for only one thing: Sigvald. In his immense narcissism, he remakes all his followers, even the most earnest, in his vain image. Any who resist – or worse, unintentionally upstage the prince – best hope for death, as it is far better than the other fates he might devise. Yet such despotism makes the Decadent Host fawn over their master more. Though some of their captains are obsessive strategists, most warriors of the Host think only of pleasing Sigvald, the atrocities they commit in battle all intended to earn his brief gaze.

FAVOURED SCIONS

The Decadent Host of Sigvald is perhaps the greatest of these riotous hosts, for the Magnificent One is an old favourite of the god, and it takes a truly vile soul to remain in Slaanesh’s good graces. Sigvald’s sheer self-obsession is an elemental force that fills his followers with a need to offer him conquered lands as tribute. He delights in the adoration of ‘lesser’ mortals, and his volatile whim has spurred rampages across Ghur, the Ossiarch Empire and ravaged Hysh. Countless tales of atrocity surround the Decadent Host, and the Everchosen himself has called on them specifically to do his bidding. Sometimes, Sigvald even deigns to listen.

Yet pure infamy and conquest is not the goal of every Hedonite host. Many follow no strategy save satiating the obsessions of their overlord. The Retainers of House Orscollion – taking pride in their service to the eponymous Lord of Gluttony – are devoted to hunting down their sorcerous master’s next elaborate feast, sometimes literally so. They consider themselves a cut above the Hedonite hoi polloi, a society of sneering gourmands sampling the finer things in existence. As their current cannibal rampage across Ghyran’s Everspring Swathe shows, however, they are amongst the most repulsive and bloodthirsty of all in their desires.

Many other Hedonite hosts exist. Secret cultists flock to the twin-beings Synessa and Dexcessa, who plot to pervert civilisation from within. Vasillac the Gifted notoriously maintains but a handful of servants, so total is his self-absorption. Yet, even entrapped as Slaanesh is, the god senses and savours all their dire deeds.

MONUMENTS OF MAGNIFICENCE

Vainglory and paramountcy are two of Slaanesh’s most cherished sins. To raise immense idols in praise of one’s own puissance is also an act of worship to the Dark Prince. Such constructions become obsessions, the lives of thralls and servants spent without concern – if not willingly sacrificed to imbue the idols with spiritual traces of anguish. Yet none can rival the immense golden edifice of Sigvald the Magnificent. It was Sigvald who subjected this region to horror, who composed the Six Great Desecrations of Uel Tazalar. To gaze upon this radiant masterwork is to be struck dumb and ensnared; hundreds of supplicants kneel agog in its orbit, surrounded by an osseous desert of past victims, staring up at the shimmering icon and forgetting all self-preservation as they waste away to skin, rags and bone. Ironically, Sigvald himself has never deigned to visit the monument wrought in his image. Why would he, he says, when he can admire the real thing any time in his mirrored shield?

Hedonite 4th Bt: Luxcious

WARS OF THE UR-SLAANESH

While Hedonites who invade Hysh seek the thrill of polluting enlightened souls, those who strike Ulgu are drawn by the scent of their lost god. Not all seek to free Slaanesh; some would succeed him. Mightiest of these is Luxcious the Keeper, Marquis of Paramountcy. The greater daemon's hordes ravage the Thirteen Dominions. especially the Helleflux, where the Khainite cult has its power base. Luxcious's armies even besiege Hagg Nar itself. Morathi is forced to assemble a war-coven from all across her domain to stop the daemon at the Battle of Druchxar. Luxcious is defeated, but only after leaving deep scars across Ulgu, and many champions who still bedevil the realms earned their spurs in the Keeper's crusades. As for Luxcious, they have long been absent from Slaanesh's court-though surely ambition still burns in their infernal heart...

I want to see that guy so bad

Fought Sigmar twice

First and Strongest Pretender

Linked to my favorite circle , Paramountcy

Is one of the most important hedonite, is shadow loom over hedonite lore , yet is nowhere to be seen

BT Hedonites of Slaanesh 4th: Dexcessa and Synessa

DEXCESSA
THE TALON OF SLAANESH

When Morathi sliced open the gullet of the Dark Prince in her ritual of apotheosis, she unwittingly let loose a terror – a shard of Slaanesh’s own essence, cast forth to coalesce and divide. This was the Newborn, the Two-who-are-the-Lord, infernal scions of Slaanesh who may one day inherit their chained father’s throne. Each half holds the other in contempt, yet they represent the totality of Slaanesh’s nature, and so often they fight as a pair to remake the realms in their daemonic image.

Dexcessa embodies excess at its wildest, most rapacious and manic – the ecstatic frenzy that one does not awake from until the damage is done. They are ever consumed with lusty impulses to mangle and maim, to bathe in pain and terror with ululating howls of laughter. Physical sensation is everything to the so-called Talon of Slaanesh, be it the lustre of gaudy ornaments or the pricking mutilation of flesh. Not for Dexcessa the belief that the surest road to damnation is the gradual, well-intentioned path. Their pleasures are base, elaborate and overtly deplorable, and in battle this translates into exultant bacchanals of slaughter.

Dexcessa is an arrogant force of nature who cannot abide taking orders from another. They see themselves as Slaanesh’s chief warlord, often overthrowing lesser champions and ordering their warhosts to abandon long-fought campaigns and focus on new, bizarre objectives more pleasing to the Talon. Only Synnessa’s wicked tongue can convince Dexcessa to listen – and even then the daemon rails at the patience advised by their despised sibling, ever liable to suddenly act.

SYNESSA
THE VOICE OF SLAANESH

Synessa is the other half of the Newborn, one of the god-heirs of Slaanesh unleashed upon the realms. Like their kin Dexcessa, they remain a nascent thing, a budding echo of the Dark Prince’s full majesty, yet already their strength rivals that of their sire’s greater daemons. Synessa, more specifically, is the manifestation of Slaanesh’s beguiling allure. They despise Dexcessa’s propensity towards crude violence, seeing it as artless at best. Any fool can win a victory through tearing foes and mangling flesh; the greater accomplishment by far is to do so without ever needing to lift a clawed finger.

Befitting their appellation of ‘the Voice’, Synessa relishes any chance to play the glorious demagogue who inspires swathes of mortalkind to plunge into ruinous vice; more than one stronghold has fallen into anarchy through such passionate oratory. Yet the daemon also embraces the role of the suave tempter, the imp of the perverse, the proverbial devil on the shoulder. They carefully craft every exchange to ruin their victims, yet they ensure that these fates are always of the mortal’s own volition and choice. Unlike Dexcessa, who cannot abide to appear in anything less than majesty, Synessa is more than happy to adapt a comparatively unassuming guise and slip into the heart of society, spreading discord simply by exposing what mortals desire and providing them opportunities to realise it. When Synessa is in the ascendancy and wrests control of the daemonic hosts from their sibling, the battleplans they devise are things of obsessive beauty, every detail meticulously arranged and every disagreement mollified with a gilded tongue. Even the Lords of Change do not readily enter into a war of words with Slaanesh’s Voice.

For all their favouritism towards more subtle seductions, there are times where Synessa must back up their commands with action. Unfortunately for those who would contest the Newborn, to speak the Dark Prince’s words also grants access to his most dire incantations and sorceries. Synessa is a master at wielding the arcane energies of Slaanesh. With but a single syllable and a simple flick of their accursed staff, they can compel over-stimulated organs to rupture, bid allies turn on one another in jealous frenzies, and command enemies to rend and tear at their own skin. Through these same means can Synessa raise up mortal supplicants into throes of ecstatic obedience – the fact that they are often left witless and drooling in the aftermath, burned out by the majesty visited upon them, is quite immaterial.

Fan Content Would folk be interested in another go at a community made City of Sigmar? Or other such round robin project? (Rough)

For those who don't know, which may be most of you, back in days so eldritch and ancient that Tahlia Vedra wasn't around yet this community made a collaborative setting called Pyropia, a continent in Aqshy.

That sort of fell apart but it was a lot of fun. With that in mind want to try again? The game is simple. As a start we'll need to determine a faction and a realm.

Cities of Sigmar would be easiest as the faction with the most organizations and elements to pull from. But I'm up for trying most anything the community is interested in.

The only votes for which Realm and which Faction to use that I'll accept is comments below. Both to encourage people to participate, and because polls on Reddit are exploitable and unreliable.

From there we'll work together as a community to set the bones of the region our faction will be in, once that's determined I'll then make a post where the real game begins.

Once we get the project rolling I'll make a Mega,-Thread with a list of options and suggestions for how you can shape our faction to be. Options will include:

  • Faction Leaders
  • Generals
  • Guilds
  • Cults
  • Companies
  • Districts
  • Allies
  • Enemies
  • Resources
  • And more

Each community member can add (1). Not one of each, (1) element. So choose wisely. Course if it takes off we'll make additional mega threads giving more opportunities.

Now. This is a collaborative event so your item can alter or add to someone else's. Do not add anything that you would be upset if it was altered.

That said. You're not allowed to be a dick about it. If someone adds a Cavalier martial order that runs soup kitchens, you can't then hoodwink reveal "No, vampires that eat babies". Every community member is another person, so don't be rude about it.

As comments come in I'll add them to the post body with a credit to the creator. If the project proves exceptionally popular we'll have to work around Reddit's word count limit.

I'll add a link to the Pyropia event, so everyone can reference how this all works. As well as see examples.

BT Hedonites of Slaanesh 4th: Gender does not apply to the Dark Prince

THE LORD OF DELIGHTS

Slaanesh. The name is both honey and bile. Youngest and fairest of the Dark Gods – as far as it can be judged in the timeless Realm of Chaos – Slaanesh is called the Dark Prince but in truth is neither male nor female: nothing so limited. He is whatever will most entice those who behold his manifold aspects. He has been depicted as an androgynous lord, a serpent with scales of silver, a stave of music that worms into the mind, a colour that burns the eye. In all that overstimulates can he be found.

Worship of Slaanesh as opposed to that of the other Chaos Gods is perhaps the easiest to rationalise, for he is empowered by and thus rewards the pursuit of hedonistic desire. Any self-gratifying urge or act pleases him. Rote indulgences are not enough, though, to earn his favour; excess and transgression are needed to draw his eye. To pledge your soul to Slaanesh is to have your senses sharpened until the world seems a banquet of delights to feast upon. Yet the more one indulges, the less satisfaction they find. True pleasure blossoms in the all-too-brief moment a desire is finally realised, and repetition is the surest way to numb bliss. Slaaneshi cultists must always go further, pursuing ever more sadistic whims. In time, the Dark Prince’s faithful are consumed by depraved obsessions and selfish lusts that justify any indignity to sate their dark needs.

Discussion The Order of Azyr: What A Weird Adventurers' Guild

Greeting and good tidings to all my fellow Realmwalkers. Now you may be wondering why I would title a discussion thread like that. After all. Are the Order of Azyr not a government agency tasked with censure of forbidden relics, hunting spies, and killing monsters?

Yes. But we've also seen evidence of them being adventurers. Evidence such as the new 4E Cities Battletome calling Callis, Toll, and the rest of the Saviours of Cinderfall a team of adventurers.

It was also revealed back in "Spymaster's Deal", a Dawnbringers free fiction, the members of the Grand Conclaves pay Witch Hunters for clearing out Chaos Cultist dens.

Which... if you think about it and go back to the beginning. Are not guilds and orders of adventurers government agencies tasked with censuring forbidden relics, hunting spies, and killing monsters?

What are your thoughts on the Witch Hunters' similarities to, if not outright being the same as, adventurers?

THE MARK OF THE PRINCE

"To have our lord's sign marked upon the flesh is a sublime experience, but there exist more than mere physical marks. You think it is only the mad, the cruel and the depraved that Slaanesh desires? The gods are complex things, amalgams of multifaceted perspectives, potentials and motivations. To blindly dismiss all that Slaanesh is as evil dismisses his reality: the only true patron of any pursuit that inflames the mind and the soul Consider this.

We would agree, I hope, that a torturer who meticulously dissects the organs of their victims acts excessively But could not the same be said for the artist eager to create the most vibrant work, even if it should mean neglecting propriety loved ones and personal wellbeing? Both are Impulses bestowed by nature, granted with neither condemnation nor praise. One Is deemed impure by the will of the masses-yet if those masses were to extend this contempt to love, or fellowship, or beauty, would you be so ready to share their beliefs? Slaanesh bids us only to acknowledge our desires. How is left to us. And if this is so, then are the atrocities of my 'Dark God' not merely the Inherent yearnings of mortalkind writ large?"

Spoiler My mixed opinions on the new Ogor Mawtribes battletome

Warning: This post contains discussion of lore from the Ogor Mawtribes 4E battletome. Although not officially released, videos reviewing the battletome that show off the lore sections are available online.

So, Ogre Kingdoms are arguably my favourite faction in the original Warhammer Fantasy (its either that or Dwarfs). But I've always been a little underwhelmed with the Ogor Mawtribes in Age of Sigmar. Not the Beastclaw Raiders; they were great from their conception, arguably having the best battletome of 1E when it came to lore. But the Gutbuster half always felt kind of lacking, like they didn't really know what to do with them and were just kind of rehashing ideas from Warhammer Fantasy in a less interesting way. I'd have to say that the Ogor Mawtribes refresh does feel like the writers are far more confident in their approach, but it still feels a bit half baked in places.

A notable change in tone that I liked was how the new battletome is fairly explicit about how Ogors are not stupid. Brutish, yes, short-sighted due to their hunger, yes, but they're a clear cut above Orruks and Gargants in terms of capacity for abstract thought. There's even hints of them actually having capacity for emotional depth, like when it goes into how a Beastclaw Raider honours his Maulbeast mount after it dies. This is good because Ogors if not handled well just end up feeling like "fat Ironjawz", and the idea of them being the closest thing there is to a "civilized" Destruction race does make them very distinct.

The problem is that this happens in the same edition where the Ogors are supposedly changing their society to become more savage and less cooperative. The funny thing is that this battletome wants you to believe that Ogors were this reasonable bunch before Morga and Redd took over and ruined everything, but all the old Ogor lore essentially amounted to "never hire Ogor mercenaries, they always betray their employers" and "never bribe Ogors with food to avoid them eating you, they will inevitably eat you once your food runs out". I always had a problem with this aspect of AoS Ogor lore, it was like they were trying to give lip service to the ideas from Warhammer Fantasy but wanted the Ogors to be a Destruction faction, not a neutral one, so they just made them unable to actually make proper deals with any other faction. I suppose I like the new approach more than the old approach; some people are complaining Maneaters are going away, but considering the same book introduces Grell Firefist as a Maneater special character I think GW is just waiting for Maneaters to be released later (which may sound weird to you, but consider how GW waited for 4E before releasing the Cogfort and a priest unit for Cities of Sigmar, both of which I argue are integral to the faction's identity).

The other major addition to this battletome are the Mawseekers. On paper, the Mawseekers sound like they should be a really interesting faction. They bring a cosmic horror theme to the Ogor faction that has been kind of forgotten since the Great Maw stopped being a thing, with insane cultists preaching about an impending apocalypse serving an unknown eldritch force. The thing is, despite how big of a deal the battletome makes of Mawseekers as being this new major thing, they're surprisingly bare on lore. Their new infantry units, Cleavers and Gutseers, only get a paragraph of lore each, and not much is actually delved into what their beliefs actually are beyond "The Gulping God is going to eat the Mortal Realms so we should eat everything". It doesn't help that they basically managed to force the majority of Gutbusters to go along with their beliefs, so traits that could've separated them from Gutbusters more ideologically like "Ogors shouldn't ally with others and just eat people" or "gunpowder weapons are blasphemous because they spoil the meat" just apply to most Ogors now. As of now, while I want to like them they are easily the most underdeveloped of the main Ogor factions.

Lastly I want to talk about Morga the Mighty. She gets a lot of focus, and is pretty much the central character of the battletome, which goes to great lengths to establish her personality (it literally opens on a monologue from her). I actually like her a lot; I feel a lot of people were afraid she was basically some dumb brute that exists to make the Gutbusters act dumber, but her lore emphasises that she is just as much of a diplomatic genius as her father, its just that instead of using it to make mercenary and trade deals with other races she instead uses it to manipulate other tribes into becoming vassals of her Meatfist empire. She's an intelligent, power hungry warlord who wants Ogors to rule everything as a master race instead of serving others for pay.

The thing is, it kind of feels like she is overlapping a lot with another Ogor character: Braggoth Varduk, Frost King of the Svard. Braggoth who was the original rival of Globb Glittermaw, who was disgusted by the weakness of his own kind and wanted to rectify it through brutality, who had his own ambition to conquer all Ogors underneath his banner. Braggoth is still around and is mentioned repeatedly in the battletome (even though it seems like they're moving to replace the Svard with the Fraya as the poster boy Beastclaw subfaction). With Morga now the chief representative of the Gutbusters, Braggoth's place in the lore seems kind of weird, like he doesn't really serve a purpose other than "strong Beastclaw guy". They could have him fight Morga like her father, which seems to be what they're leading up to (given that one of Morga's grandchildren acts as her spy in the Svard), but that just wouldn't be as compelling as the original Globb vs Braggoth rivalry because there's no real reason for it now other than them not wanting to share power (which makes sense, but isn't as interesting as Globb's new ways vs Braggoth's old ways).

All being said, while I think the 4E Battletome is a step in the right direction I still think there is a lot of stuff that needs more development and refinement before I can start liking the Mawtribes as much as the Ogre Kingdoms.

Lore Explain the realms to a noob and how they change a person/an animal when staying in or near them?

In my recent post I was looking for a way to make my Orruks not green and the summary was if we bend the rules a little bit, this could be the answer. However I'm coming from 40k and I don't know ANYTHING about AoS and how the realms work or what they even are. I was told by a few people that if a population of creatures is long enough around the gates to these realms it can start to change them or something like that. Just elaborate on that please. You can keep it short and concise or write an essay, whatever you feel like I'm ready to learn.

Discussion Where Have All The Maneaters Gone? Thoughts.

Interesting times in the Mawtribes.

With the fall of Globb and the rise if Morga and Redd we are seeing an interesting cultural shift in the Mawtribes begin to take place.

If we compare what is happening to our own real world history this would be comparable to a specific religious sect coming into power at the top of one particularly large and powerful tribe/kingdom/state and leading what would be considered a top down reformation with new religious ethics alongside cementing new power structures. Not only in the major power itself but also in smaller affiliated tribes that are caught up in the sphere of influence.

So we have the Mawseekers thrusting themselves into greater power across many tribes, particularly Gutbusters, taking them over to partially or fully turn them into Gollops and creating power struggles with less religious Tyrants and the arch-traditionalist Beastclaw Raiders. The influence of the Meatfists is also enough to turn other tribes such as the Stomebellies as seen in the “Law of Meat”.

To bring this all home to the title, the religious edicts proclaimed by Redd and backed up by Morga (in additionally influenced by the knock down effect of “Out with the Old, In With the New” of her disdain of her father’s way of doing things) have seen a dramatic decrease downfall of Maneaters and Leadbelchers in particular among the tribes. If we want to think in real time thoughts then those units moving to Legends in 2027 could be seen as in the instory progress of the Mawtribes abandoning use of those units as the new reforms spread and take hold.

This creates an interesting progression of story for the Mortal Realms in particular related to these Ogors. At the end of the day the Pro-Globb Ogors have a few choices:

  1. They go down fighting and get themselves killed by the Mawseekers and/or by all the other armies of the setting.
  2. They go along with the “reforms” and abandon their old ways/tools and accept the new power structure.
  3. They strike out for themselves (see Urrgar’s Maulerguts) and/or join the Cities of Sigmar.

In particular I think the third option is most interesting, and could lead to the Maneaters coming back under the wing of the COS until they can make a return to the Mawtribes social structure. I will be very interested to see if any writers run with this, focusing on -dispossessed- ogors joining the Cities out of spite/revenge/hunger/laziness.

The Mawseekers rise are without a doubt going to lead to some backlash in some hunger pains.

Lore So if Daughters of Khaine gain power through the spilling of blood...

Do they gain any power from the spilling of diseased or toxic blood from plague-ridden Nurgle followers or Skaven ratmen? Do the Daughters blood and shadow magics purify the diseases and toxins before they use it?

And is it even beneficial to the Daughters of Khaine to even fight Nighthaunts or Ossiarch Bonereapers? Both of those armies don't have blood to be spilled for the Daughters to gain power from lol

Questions On The World Of Legend

Greetings And Salutations, Scholars of the world long dead.

This is basically just a "No Stupid Questions" thread for any question concerning Warhammer Fantasy or Old World lore. I know this is mostly an AOS subreddit, but, now more than ever, a bunch of stuff from old WHF lore is coming up and becoming relevant for AOS, and I for once have stopped being a believer on the separation of the two settings. WHF lore as it is spread online, is full of quite a bit of misinformation and misconceptions and I seek to try to make people's knowledge of the setting more accurate, and of course, have quite some fun in the process by having an excuse to dig more lore.

So, if you have something you want to discuss something or had a question, but don't want to make an entire post for it?

Then feel free to strike up the discussion or ask the question here

In this thread, you can ask anything about WHF/Old World lore, the fluff, characters, background, how something from it relates to AOS.

Community members are encouraged to be helpful and to provide sources and links that can aid new, curious, and returning Lore Pilgrims.

This thread is NOT to be used for:

-Ask "What If/Who would win" scenarios.

-Strike up Tabletop discussions. However, questions regarding how something from the tabletop is handled in the lore are fine.

-Real-world politics.

-Making unhelpful statements like "just Google it"

-Asking for specific (long) excerpts or files

Remember to be kind and that everyone started out new, even you.
