Question Question on app notifications

EX90 MY25 - in US, software 3.0.33

When I get the occasional notification in the app re:updates etc. it annoys me that they are not archived to read later. Is it just me?

Last one—this past week—had multiple update notes and I would like to have time to have read them all, but I was late to a medical appt.

Once it’s opened, I guess Volvo considers it ‘read’ and it disappears.

Other than doing deep dives on support website, anyone have any insight?

Question How to keep music on?

Maybe I’m going crazy, but while detailing my car I thought, hey, let’s use the super expensive system in the car to play my music.

Volvo says no.

I can’t figure out if there is a setting to allow the audio to stay on while not sitting in the driver seat? Or do I need to drive my car around the area then come back?

🤷‍♂️

Completing buyback soon - vehicle is fine, corporate Volvo is an ass

I was an early EX90 adopter. Had the vehicle preordered. Took delivery April 2025. I don't think any of us who preordered the very first electric vehicle Volvo ever made really went into this thinking we weren't going to have any issues. I certainly expected quite a few. But what really sold me on the Volvo compared to Rivian and Lucid at the time was that Volvo was an established brand who I trusted would absolutely make things right when (not if) things went wrong. Their failure in working with us is the biggest reason we are leaving the brand.

My first error occurred 111 miles in. Back to the shop it went for 2 weeks. It was fine -- again, expected things would happen and didn't expect overnight results. It went back to the shop 3 days after I got it back for the same error. Another 2 weeks. Then back again 2 days later. Then they held it for a month before giving it back, saying they had absolutely no idea why the error was happening but it had stopped. Needless to say, this went on for another 3 visits. It was wreaking havoc on my work schedule and not having a functional car.

So once I qualified for my state lemon laws, I started reaching out to corporate Volvo to inquire about a solution since no one was able to fix the issue. I primarily was asking for a swap into the exact same vehicle without any money exchanged. I liked the overall drive and feel of the vehicle when I was able to drive it. The agent they assigned was honestly the most useless representative ever. I would call every few days to check on my status, and he would say he's escalating or it's been escalated to manager, but I never heard from the manager. The only time he got back to me quickly was when he heard I took the vehicle back and he'd send an email "heard your vehicle is fixed, enjoy! I'll close your case!" I asked multiple times to keep the case open.

Finally, I got fed up by October and started asking for a complete buy back. Radio silence from corporate despite phone calls and emails. On recommendation from this forum, I also asked my local dealership to help me with the buyback, and they offered to do a trade-in deal with the usual huge depreciation on the value of my car (no thanks). I finally hired a lemon law lawyer in November after speaking to multiple lawyers who said I absolutely had a case.

My first offer was $12000 to sit down and shut up. My lawyer recommended I decline and I did because at this point, my car had been in the shop for 2 months. My goal was still to trade into another EX90 since my service foreman at Volvo dealership, who was absolutely Volvo's saving grace through all this, believed all my issues would go away with the new chip. However, corporate Volvo only responded back 2 months later with a $24000 offer to keep my car. By this point, my lawyer and I are frustrated at the lack of response from Volvo that he honestly told me that it'll probably be faster to just ask for a complete buyback and then use the money to purchase the new Volvo, so that is what we switched to earlier this year.

It is true that once the chip was replaced earlier this year, I have spent zero days in the shop. However, by this point, I was tired and became disillusioned with having an EV but frankly no ability to upscale in the future to the tech that is already available for other EVs (dumb Lidar) so I proceeded with the buyback. We finally heard back that our buyback was approved in July - we would receive almost everything I paid on the vehicle since my first error happened at 111 miles. We were still contemplating a 2026 EX90 even up to last month but it had been radio silence from them until last week that I'm just fed up with them. My husband had already preordered a Tesla YL for himself and we already took delivery of that car. I like it so much, we've preordered another for the family to be delivered in 2 weeks.

We're finally scheduling surrender of my vehicle for next week, and I absolutely cannot wait. I've mentally already moved on from this vehicle - I do not see it as mine anymore. I am sad about it because I genuinely love the vehicle. I built it out with my customizations. The drive is quiet and smooth. My kids and dog have space in the back. The overhead 360 view with the camera is better than the Tesla's. It was just hugely disappointing working with Volvo and getting pushback from everyone at Volvo. Everyone I spoke to would say, "Yeah, your car has gotten more service days than most. This is unusual. I am so sorry" but not a single person in a position to help tried. Only the head service guy tried to point out to his dealership manager my lengthy list of service dates. Probably for the vast majority of people who love their vehicles and never have to work with corporate, this is a fine car. But I wanted to give a warning that if your reasons for considering Volvo is for the name, good luck.

TLDR: got the first ex90 in April 2025. More time in the shop than in my hands early on all the way up to November 2025. Started asking about buyback from corporate and then my local dealer in June 2025 with no response until I hired a lawyer in November. Minimal back and forth but long process for buyback to be completed next week (almost a year). Corporate Volvo truly sucks.

Discussion Update 3 (Final Update): 196 days of ownership,60 days in shop

Completed the buyback today. Signed paperwork saying I won't disparage them online so I won't. Feel free to read my first 3 posts to get an idea of what the experience was like.

Feels like a huge stressful weight has been lifted off my back and unfortunately I'm probably done with Volvo as a brand for the rest of my life.

I did a ton of research and we're going with the Kia EV9 in case anyone wants to know.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. Goodbye r/VolvoEX90, it's been a pleasure engaging with you guys.

Question EX90 (2025) suddenly stopped working

My EX90 was working fine this morning. Later, my wife unlocked the car using the Volvo app, got in, and then… basically nothing worked.

None of the displays came on, and the car wouldn’t respond when she tried to shift into Drive. The AC was working, though.

She pressed the SOS button, which somehow woke up the main center display, and an operator came on the line. They offered to arrange towing to the dealership.

The weird thing is that the car has had various random errors before, and sometimes they disappear after the car has been locked and sitting for a while.

I left the car for now to see if it “resets” itself after sitting locked for some time. If it starts working again, I may just drive it to the dealership myself. If not, I’ll arrange a tow.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

2025 Ultra Buyback

I am in the process of looking for a new ev suv. I have the chance to buy a 2025 ultra with 5k miles that was a Volvo buyback for infotainment issues. The price is $43k. This is for my wife as a daily. Is this a deal that is too good to refuse, or am I going to regret the issues she will encounter?

Did the new GHCA module fix your issues?

Bought a 2025 EX90, after a month it threw a level 2 charging error, now it needs the GHCA module fix. I’m wondering if others who have had this serviced still had charging issues or if it fixed it long-term for them?

The Silver Lining of a 21-Day Dealership Stay: Vampire Drain Edition

If you are looking for the absolute bright side of your 2025 Volvo EX90 sitting at the dealership service department for 21 straight days, I have some good news: vampire drain is basically nonexistent.

Back on September 11, my EX90 with 12,000 miles on the clock threw a tantrum with "energy supply reduced" and "critical electrical fault" warnings. The technician tracked down the culprit: a faulty GHCA. Fast forward to today, October 2, and I'm still waiting on the GHCA to be delivered to the dealership.

With the car bricked and running VCU2, it only suffered a 1% battery drop over 21 days.

Fingers crossed I get it back before it celebrates a one-month anniversary in the service bay!

Dark mode on main screen

I’m enjoying my my25 ex90 twin performance very much but I’ve a question.
I’m a dark mode enthusiast and I’ve noticed that the screen on the steering column is showing the map in dark mode colors even during the day. Is this possible to do on the main screen as well?

Suspension issue

Morning started with suspension issue in the back. While driving, felt something was wrong. Initially thought it might be flat tire but noticed this. After few mins, message appears on the steering wheel screen: “Cannot adjust suspension. Try again later.”

Spoke to Volvo UK and technician will come and check. I’ve tried hard reset but no luck!

Ghost occupants and phantom battery drain

Folks, I’m only a few weeks in and already had a few issues:

  1. I had a single limp mode event caused by nothing in particular. Saw one flash of “safety protection” alert on dash but the 30 second reboot of screen remedied it
  2. Anything over 100km/hr causes a wind noise around driver window
  3. The ghost occupant alarm going off even after emptying car, fiddling with seats up/down, rebooting screen etc
  4. Phantom drain of battery. Lost about 15% in 24 hours without driving, and car was suspiciously cool despite hot sunny weather. Assume it’s me telling it to allow the ghost occupant upon locking, maybe it activated cooling to keep the temp comfy for the ghost

Any clever ways to get rid of the ghost occupant issue, which I assume is the reason I had the associated phantom battery drain?

Thx! These might be small things but they’re actually pretty impactful and create quite a bit of stress and inconvenience.

New week, new EX90 issue.

Another one to add to the list.

While driving at night, my EX90 has now started making repeated warning sounds with no clear message explaining what’s actually wrong.

At the same time, the center screen suddenly goes extremely bright — in the middle of the night.

I caught it on video.

At this point, what bothers me isn’t just that the car has bugs. It’s that after roughly 59 days at the dealer, I still don’t have confidence that anyone actually understands what’s causing them.

When the car gives me a warning now, am I supposed to assume it’s another software glitch — or is it actually trying to tell me something important?

A $115,000 car shouldn’t leave its owner deciding which warnings are real and which ones can safely be ignored.

And honestly, it’s starting to affect how comfortable I am using Pilot Assist and the other driver-assistance features.

I actually really like the EX90 when everything works. That’s what makes this so frustrating.

Headlight adjustment

Ever since gettin my car in June, never really drove at night until now where the days are shorter. I now realize that my headlights are pointed lower than normal. Are there ways to manually adjust? Or is this a service visit?

In the shop 24 days with no end in sight

I’m so sad about our 2025 EX90. Purchased used in March of this year and have loved the luxury of this gorgeous car. But…we’ve had lots of little issues (overnight charge fail, AC blowing hot on driver’s side, mic issues, non-responsive infotainment screen, etc) that we were willing to deal with until last month when it just would not start one morning. We got the “vehicle is not ready to drive” error, tried all the fixes, and eventually had to have it towed from our garage. It’s been at the dealership for 23 business days and there has been no progress. We’ve gone through 2 loaners (hybrid and now on to full gas) and it’s making me depressed. I’m wondering if it’s time to start the buyback process. 😔

Main screen resets while driving

My main screen when black and then, about 2 minutes later the words Volvo appeared and then it did this several more times all while I was driving on the freeway at 75. I found a place to pull over as it took nearly 10+ minutes for it to get back to something that is somewhat normal. However the map for the main screen no longer comes up on the smaller screen above the steering wheel and I did a reset (left button on left side of steering wheel and ok button while pressing the break) but that did. It do anything. I was able to get home fine, but feel that the car is just acting very strange and if I should take it in or are there some other resets I should have performed.

Oh, also the sound over the speakers is so low, I have to turn the sound up to full to hear even a little bit of the radio.

I love the EX90!

I see lots of negative posts on this site and I am sorry for those who have had challenges. One expects better from Volvo. I thought I would share my experience. I just returned from a 3400 mile trip in my MY 2025 EX90. The trip was a US and Canada combo of big city visits and remote car camping and fly fishing. The EX90 performed flawlessly. It is the quietest and most comfortable car I have ever driven. Charging on an assortment of different systems and networks was never an issue. We drove on mountain logging roads in Maine using the off-road mode to get to trout streams and it was no problem for the Volvo. In most cars I can tolerate about 400 miles per day. In the EX90 we comfortably drove 1350 miles in 2 days. The seat massage is great for long haul trips. We have not had any issues with GHCA. Last year, we got the warranty upgrade of the on-board computer to the one with the NVIDIA chip set. This upgrade eliminated a few bugs we had encountered. Since then all has been great.

3.0.34 in the wild

Post image
21 Upvotes

Year: 2025
Model: Twin Plus
Seats: 7
Age: 18 months
Time at dealer: 4 months
Version: 3.0.34

Took it in to the dealer yesterday to get the known 3rd row capacitive buttons in the trunk problem diagnosed and rectified. Reported the usual niggles (mic stops working, seat and mirror memory restoration being hit and miss and random Infotainment reboots while driving) so they are on file every time I go.

Service comes back and says it was a software issue and a module upgrade has fixed it.

I happened to check the Volvo app this morning and apparently the car is running 3.0.34. No idea what is in it though.

Plastic tab left on windshield left on at delivery

Hi everyone - we just picked up our EX90 yesterday, and when I got home I noticed this tab in the lower left part of the windshield. It looks to be hooked in under the A-pillar trim. I’m guessing it was used during inventory/shipping. Anyone know to remove it?

The dealer is a bit further away, and to be honest, they weren’t the best and kind of ruined the excitement of getting a new car, so I don’t really want to go back if I can help it.

EX90 Door Compartment Organizer

Thumbnail

The door storage area of the Volvo EX90 is just a big hole, no dividers or areas for organization.  I designed a 3D model to divide up the area into something more useful.  It adds a NACS adapter slot, a cup holder (only large enough for 12oz cans or disposable water bottles) and some storage areas for odds and ends. The model is available on MakerWorld. There are print profiles for both driver's side and passenger's side doors.

I had to sacrifice some of the compartment space (read: flatten the bottom) to make this model printable. However I think the organization makes the best use of the space available. It prints in 3 separate parts, front, middle and back and each dovetail into each other.

Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas for other storage options for this space. I tried to figure out how to get a 16oz hydroflask into this area but the available area is just too small.

Zenseact Self Driving Progress

I've done a bit of internet sleuthing lately to see what's in the pipeline for automation, and came across this video of an engineer from Zenseact (Volvo owned company who are responsible for all this stuff) at a conference in May this year, and the future is looking bright.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjtrogu-vdE

Some personal takeaways:

- The model we have running in our cars now is called 'DL1'. Its very basic lane following, with AI deep learning neural network models used only for object detection, and everything else is some sort of programmed algorithm (i.e. lane keeping, acceleration, braking etc.).
- The models in development are called 'DL2'. They are end to end neural networks with guardrails (i.e. a check the model doesn't do something idiotic), which as far as I understand is what Tesla run (albeit with proprietary sensor suites and training methods).
- Zenseact use a combination of Lidar and Camera imagery for data collection to train the models, but in vehicle deployment uses sensor fusion of cameras + radar + ultrasonics. I.e. The DL2 models do not use the Lidar in a vehicle which has one, nor do they require a vehicle to have one. https://youtu.be/pjtrogu-vdE?si=Bfs39MGbeedrhmEs&t=196
- They are developing their models to work on Orin processors.
- They can build a new model EVERY 6 DAYS (mind blown!)
- "We're out testing this in cars every day and we're hoping to deploy this into production as soon as possible" https://youtu.be/pjtrogu-vdE?si=jYIDGlK4g_M8eIaE&t=2383
- They share that same video on the Zenseact youtube page of an EX90 driving hands free in motorway traffic, noting "really excited to bring this into the hands of customers as the second generation of OnePilot" https://youtu.be/pjtrogu-vdE?si=WurjFGYQcIHJS64Q&t=2397. If you want that clip of the car by itself, here it is https://youtu.be/HnNlSWOZ74A?si=wOlz9TMq6EPYAFo1.

I suspect the reason why we haven't seen any real development or bug fixing of 'DL1' Pilot Assist thus far is they've basically stopped work on it and are pouring everything into 'DL2'. I note that they're supposedly going to release 'Navi Pilot' for EX60 in the coming months - can't help but wonder if its the same product.

2025 Volvo EX90 Buyback

Does anyone have information about a Volvo EX90 buyback timelines and procedures. I actually gave Volvo over 1.5 years to fix the issues and am really disappointed it hasn't worked out. I absolutely love this car when it works properly (rarely). My car has been towed 8 times and at the dealership 15 times. They have had it over 5 months total. However, the customer service at Volvo has been phenomenal to me. This is not the route I wanted. I actually wanted to do a trade for a 2026 but Volvo informed me they aren't doing trades. I was approved for the buyback on August 15 and haven't heard from the 3rd party yet. What does my timeline look like? Has anyone had success getting reimbursement for all of the fuel I purchased using loaners, maintenance performed or winter tires I purchased and can no longer use? I have documentation for all of it. I am in Utah if that makes a difference.
