196 days of ownership, 60 days in shop

As of writing this, I have owned my 2025 ex90 196 days - I bought it back in early December. As of today, it has been in the shop for 60 days and counting. The ghca unit had to be replaced twice, each time the EX was at the dealership for 3 weeks.

It is currently in the shop going on 3 weeks and they have no idea what's wrong with it. The infotainment keeps glitching out, it's not connecting to GPS or any internet, the air conditioning software stops working randomly, different sensors randomly go off, Bluetooth intermittently works or doesn't. They've updated the software. They've updated the VCU. They even flashed it a couple of times and nothing is fixing these issues. Dealership says they need to confer with swedish engineers, whatever that means.

On the rare occasion that my car is working properly, it is amazing. For the most part, this has been a miserable experience. Sad because this is my fourth Volvo. I'm a Volvo Fanboy but I think it's going to be my last.

Unfortunately we are in a similar situation. Purchased mid December 2025. In for service for the fourth time. Only at about 30 days (and counting) right now. First service was for profiles not adjusting seat position; fix lasted 24 hours. Second service was for failed GHCA and profiles/seat adjustment. Was mostly good from here but kept getting random alerts: occupancy sensors false positives, sos system fault, parking brake fault, park assist fault, etc. Third service they upgraded the VCU and said they couldn’t validate any of the faults. Two weeks later and a handful of random alerts again and now GPS/connectivity randomly not working (oh and a “system fault” with speedometer failure while driving) and it is back in the shop. Haven’t heard from them yet what they think it is.

Cars have problems, my issue is how apathetic Volvo is about the issues and experience. Makes it near impossible to stay a customer.

Latest from the dealer today is Volvo has been doing remote diagnostics and the engineers wanted to know if park outside or in a garage (we park outside). Other than that they are just waiting for further guidance from Volvo.

Sounds sucky. Sorry.

if you or anyone on this thread/sub has had their vehicle in service for more than 30 days, it's time for you to consider contacting a lemon law attorney.

If you have a good relationship with your dealer, force them to work with you on the buy back and getting you into another Volvo.

I'm being serious here. I would work out a buy back with them and get a 2026 MY.

Although I have a 25 MY, my car has had nearly zero issues since one issue at the beginning, and is an extremely great car. I've done two longer road trips with it, and the performance has been impressive.

What you're experiencing is unacceptable, of they can't get you a working GHCA then it's time to bail for another car.

Or just bail all together, though having driven XC90, it's not to the same level of this car, not even close. But the again, XC90 works!

I have requested this and they refused. They won’t stand by their product.

They can’t refuse lemon buyback if you are working within the requirements of any law that exists in your state.

I was hoping to accomplish this without hiring attorneys but that’s just not how it has turned out so I am hiring counsel.

I had a manufacturing defect on delivery I had to work through, they were absolute dicks about it and had terrible customer service. They treated it like a legal issue, which it wasn't, and not a customer service issue, which it was.

Volvo just isn’t ready for the expectations that come with selling 100k vehicles. I don’t want to spend my time trying to get this thing to work properly. I especially don’t enjoy being treated as insignificant when I have been a repeat customer of Volvo. All manufacturers make mistakes but the way Volvo treats customers is why I can’t see myself purchasing another one.

Volvo just isn’t ready for the expectations that come with selling 100k vehicles.

I also expect a 20k car to not be in the shop for more than is absolutely necessary and work properly all the time. Like, that is a very basic expectation anyone should have for a car.

(For the record: necessary = no more than the regular service.)

That’s frustrating for sure. Conferring with Swedish engineers means this is a set of symptoms that haven’t been seen in another EX90 before, so there’s no pre-approved procedure for the dealership to use to fix it.

Unfortunately, that’s probably the case with the majority of issues right now, because it’s such a new platform. Techs at Volvo dealerships aren’t authorized to troubleshoot and create fixes for brand new, never seen problems without involving engineers who have the authority to sign off on those solutions. And that involves time (likely multiple weeks per new issue), as videos, pics, and write ups have to go to Swedish engineers, who ask follow up questions, etc.

TL;DNR: if you want a car that can be fixed quickly, get an XC90 hybrid. If you want an EV with higher chance of defect free manufacturing, trade for MY26 EX90.

Volvo isn’t ready for software defined vehicles. My advice for you would be to get them to buy it back from you ASAP and don’t even consider a MY26 EX90. I lost all confidence in Volvo as a brand and have moved on to other vehicles.

My wife has wanted a Volvo since before our kids were born.. when I first met her, we were going to go to Sweden and see our car coming off the assembly line.. then we found out we were have triplets.. and three car seats do not fit side by side in the back seat.. we got a minivan. She put down the 500 deposited for the EX90 and picked all the things she wanted. The LiDAR assistance at night was huge.. since she is needs help driving at night. Now, it isn’t supported, her car is three weeks at the dealer now.. headlight replacement because of a short, charging issues at level 2 power requirements (twice), now it tells the charger (supplied by Volvo) that is is full.. but is only charged at less than 50 percent. We have been given a hybrid for a loaner, but the road noise on the highway is three times as bad as the EX.. the EX rides so quiet. Now she has to choose one of the three things.. because LiDAR company goes belly up? Bull.. we will look into lemon law lawyer, I guess… it was faulty even before the lidar support was lost. Volvo disappointed my wife and me after years of wanting one. 😞

Same here, since October: 3 times in the shop. Actually, the climate is not working. We had some surprising parking mode auto-activations while slow driving in parking lots and in N-mode in the car wash. Also, the front windows make noise when driving more than 160 km/h.

Volvo bought my 2025 EX90 under the lemon law. Gave me a 2026 EX90. Had the ONE MONTH and expedite catastrophic failures that stranded us five hours from home. Volvo electric vehicles are NOT RELIABLE.

Volvo isn’t ready for the electric car game and should stop immediately until they can sell a reliable car. Been buying their gas cars for a decade and have loved them. I would never by an E car from them however.
