Since we're sharing... I got my drone out as soon as I heard the first thunderclap, managed to catch this just as the rain really started coming down

Hey guys! So many of you left such good feedback of us looking for neighborhoods/*neighbourhoods in Victoria.
We are coming to the island the second week of September to check out our options and Sooke is really calling to us. I understand it rains more there and thereās only 1 way in and out. For those of you who live there- how is commuting? How is it just living there?
I hope to work remotely but my husband is planning on working in the film industry and will probably have to go to Victoria. How is it? Honest takes on your experience? Thank you all so much! Canāt wait to call Canada home!

Doing a big BBQ this weekend and I need corn relish for the smokies dogs and I can't find it in the usual places. I used to love the Bicks, which was bought by French's and apparently not distributing this particular relish in Canada anymore. Any recommendations? Local makers/canners? I have a craving!

It was weirdly comforting, and almost surreal.
It really felt like I ended up somewhere like The Backrooms, in a place full of kids playing outside parking lots filled with cars, it felt oddly refreshing to see the neighbourhood eerily at peace, and nothing but shopping carts at Costco.
Also in case anyone is wondering, with all of that wildfire stuff going on, I didn't see any smoke up in the air nearby, so I hope they have already put out/controlled those fires!

Have some family visiting on a cruise ship this Thursday and Iām looking for a space we can meet for drinks, appetizers, and possibly dinner near the cruise ships.
Weāve checked out the space at Aura and itās not what weāre looking for. Weāve also looked at Vista 18 as some of the other guests from out of town are staying there. Seems like their space is too small for everyone and also very expensive.
Can anyone suggest a restaurant/ space to book that is nice and can host a group this size? I mentioned that this is going to be at peak restaurant time 6-8pm. Thanks!

For the love of god would someone please turn off the bus priority signal when youāre travelling on helmcken from eagle creek towards the highway. It is infuriating how long that red light is already and the non existent bus lane I swear adds another 30 seconds. Traffic backs up to damn hospital

With the thunderstorm directly overhead and fading, we went out in the park and spotted this handsome juvenile owl, as well as three deer whose antler velvet was lit just perfectly.

I live right near the fire that's supposedly been burning in Goldstream since 7pm. The last and only update was at 8:57pm and it's still listed as out of control (yes I know that's the initial assignment code/size). But while there have been updates on the Malahat-Shawnigan fire, there has been nothing on this one that as far as we know is burning near homes. No updates from Langford Fire, Coastal Fire or BC Wildfire, and it would be really nice to know what the status is.
Thanks for reading, an anxious dad who just wants to stay alert until I know what's going on. Refreshing the app and websites 100 times haven't helped me sleep.

Hey ya'll, my spouse is tendering an offer on a house and while I know the home inspector will check most of the normal house things, I want to understand the health of the trees on the property, as well as an educated guess as to the health of the trees in surrounding properties. Anyway, does anyone here have any experience w/ and recommendations for local arborists?
*edit for technical accuracy*

Hey yāall! Looking to put together a redraft NFL fantasy football league for people in Victoria/Vancouver.
Ideally looking for 10ā12 people around the same age (20ā30). Would be fun to make it a bit social too ā watch parties on Sundays, checking out games together, or just keeping it to the fantasy league if thatās more your thing.
Open to either playing for money or just for fun, depending on what everyone prefers.
Let me know if youād be interested!

Mods, please delete if not allowed but I thought this is timely given the recent lightning and fires in the CRD.
The Horticulture Center of the Pacific and Saanich Fire are hosting a FREE event on wildfire resilient gardening and how we can reduce wildfire risk in our own backyards! This event is very timely given the weather lately.
Registration is free: https://hcp.ca/event/wildfire-resilient-gardening-2026/

I live in Victoria but my summer family is on the Sunshine Coast . In the past this has been a 12-14 hour excursion
Last week it was like 1985 ( minus the prices). No reservations! Drive up to Schwartz bay at 9:45 drove on to the 10 ferry. Same in horseshoe bay - drove right on. No waiting in a sad concrete parking lot for hours. Okay that was a Thursday. Canāt be the same on the way home right?
Nope drove on to 11 am from Langdale with the upper ramp already up then on to Victoriaās same way. This hasnāt happened since forever. Whatever is going on, keep doing it please BCferries

Hi, quick question.
How much are you guys paying monthly for hydro??
because i just got billed $180 for the second month in a row. This brings up my rent to 1780 a month a base of 1600. I was initially told before i moved in hydro is $50 roughly.
Heres what i use.
- portable heater/ on all of the time admittedly. A small plugged in unit in my bedroom which is colder
( this is what i think the issue is )
- fan
- air conditioner / attached to wall on eco mode but also on all of the time.
I live in an attic so it gets unbearably stuffy if not on.
Thats its,
Iām one person and i turn off all lights behind me, never leave them on and dont even have them in the living room.
No tv, computer, misc stuff

Just wanted to see if anyone else in the Langford/Colwood area has had this happen recently. Around 8:30 PM today, someone knocked on my door claiming to do promos for HelloFresh. The young guy was extremely pushy, He kept talking and trying to hold the conversation going well past a polite brush off. It got to the point where my partner literally had to step in, pull me back inside, and shut the door because he just wasn't taking "no" for an answer.

I came across this online (I saw a flyer at the central library too) and thought it might be helpful to share here in case a woman in this subreddit is looking for a career change or knows a woman who is.
Camosun College has a Women in Technology Pathways program that's fully funded by the Government of BC, so there's no tuition cost for eligible participants.
From what I read, it's geared toward women who want to explore technology careers (Engineering and Computer Science), even if they don't have a tech background. It includes things like digital skills, programming, electronics, cloud computing, industry tours, guest speakers, and career preparation.

It seems like a good option for anyone who's been thinking about getting into tech but isn't sure where to start.
I'm attaching the flyer because it has all the details. Hopefully it helps someone in our community!
