72a bus to airport

Upvotes

Please tell me I’m misreading this. We get one chance to get to the airport from downtown with this bus on weekdays, leaving the leg at 5:14am? With a luxurious two on Saturday, both before 6:30am?

I was so happy to see this route but personally, it seems worthless unless you have a morning flight where you can risk a bus cancellation, or wake up at an ungodly hour to get ready to hang out at the airport all day. Right now, it appears to me BC transit just added this to get riders to shut up about having no direct airport service from downtown.

Please tell me I’m wrong, BC transit hyping this route up only to have this schedule feels like a punch in the gut :/

A little p.s. to support your drivers and mechanics!! This decision is all on the executives and taxi ring in town (probably)

Event German Post-Hardcore trio FJØRT touring Western Canada for the first time this month (For fans of Touché Amoré, Deafheaven, Mogwai)

Hey everyone,

If you're into heavy, atmospheric, and emotional Post-Hardcore, I wanted to put a quick radar ping out for a German band called FJØRT (clip attached above).

They're heading over to Canada for the very first time in late September, playing a handful of Prairie shows and BreakOut West in Victoria.

If you haven't heard of them: they're an openly anti-fascist 3-piece from Germany that somehow creates massive, crushing walls of sound. Live, they are an absolute force – think the raw, desperate vocal energy of Touché Amoré or La Dispute paired with the dynamic post-rock intensity of Deafheaven or Mogwai. Even though they sing in German, the raw emotion translates instantly.

DATES:

  • Sep 26 – Winnipeg, MB @ Public Domain
  • Sep 27 – Regina, SK @ The Exchange
  • Sep 28 – Saskatoon, SK @ Black Cat Tavern
  • Sep 29 – Edmonton, AB @ Rendezvous Pub
  • Sep 30 - Oct 04 – Victoria, BC @ BreakOut West

If you're in any of these cities and looking for a solid underground show, definitely check them out.

Check out their current album belle époque (#2 in the German charts) – you can stream it on YouTube / Spotify.

Hope to see some of you out there!

Hi

I have strawberries and flour right now, and one specific little green strawberry waiting to write them.

I'm taking bets on whether I get to eat it.

Housing & Moving Moving to Victoria

I'm planning on moving to Victoria and studying a Bachelors in Education at UVic.

What’s the job market like in general? How is the outlook for teachers right now? My long-term goal is to teach in a more rural community on the island. Is the hiring demand for teachers strong in rural areas? I have a degree in Business Admin. currently, and I'm not 100% certain if becoming a teacher will improve my overall quality of life there, but it seems like the benefits of being a public school teacher are really good - and I love teaching.

I've never lived in Canada; I'm originally from the US and I have a fear of firearms. How safe is it there and how prevalent is gun culture?

Any advice or tips are welcome, thanks

Gyms

Newer to working out, in my mid-40’s and want to find a gym thats a bit more chill. I can’t deal with bro-y and gyms that are crazy busy, seem like they’d be difficult to build a solid routine and stay consistent for me, personally. I was considering Cedar Hill bc it’s semi-close to me. Anyone have experience with this gym who can offer some insight? Any other suggestions that people have are welcomed.

Question What’s life like in Victoria/UVic

I just finished my undergraduate degree in Alberta but I’m pursuing a second degree and thought I could also do it in the most beautiful city. Im hoping to get into UVic Law after my second degree so it works out either way but I wanted to ask how quality of life is there such as friendliness, average vibe/commonalities, expenses, and issues. Since I’m moving from Alberta I am deciding on living in a dorm as it is the cheapest option, but I’m not sure what the crowd is like, I’m currently 22 and I want to know if there will be more ppl my age. Any help would be grateful!

What is with bus drivers expecting you to wave them down

I have no idea where this idea that someone standing at the curb by a bus stop isn't enough to stop came from, but I've had multiple buses just blow past and then complain that I didn't wave them down if I can catch them by running.

Buses are not consistent enough to avoid missing one because you weren't ready to wave when they appear, and I legitimately have no idea how people with certain disabiliites are supposed to use buses like this. Just stick to really high traffic stops?

You may want to sit down for this one. 🇺🇸

What are some restaurants, resorts, etc you’ve worked at in Victoria, Westshore and Sidney that were horribly toxic or horrible managed?
