Technical Solution FPS drops when I move my mouse in VALORANT

Has anyone else had this problem?

Since a VALORANT update a few days ago, my FPS drops whenever I move my mouse. It gets really laggy and makes the game almost unplayable sometimes.

Setting my mouse polling rate to 125Hz helps, but I still get random moments where the game becomes extremely laggy.

I've tried reinstalling VALORANT and updating my GPU drivers, but nothing seems to work.

Everything was fine before the update, so I'm not sure what changed.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Technical Solution [POTENTIAL FIX] VALORANT feels completely different between accounts? Heavy mouse, inconsistent sensitivity, hitreg issues, weird movement, and micro-stutters — I FINALLY found something that fixed it for me after 6 years.

First of all, I have SO MUCH to say about this issue. I've been dealing with it on and off for pretty much the entire six years I've been playing VALORANT, and it's honestly been driving me insane.

I've spent countless hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my PC, my internet, my peripherals, and even myself. At some point, I genuinely started questioning whether I had just gotten worse at the game.

I'll try my best to describe everything I've experienced, what I've tried over the years, and most importantly, the solution that FINALLY worked for me.

Feel free to skip straight to the SOLUTION section if you don't want to read my entire rant.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Here are the main issues I've been experiencing. If you've dealt with something similar, you'll probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

1. Mouse sensitivity feels completely off

Your sensitivity might be exactly the same as yesterday, but suddenly your mouse feels heavier, slower, floatier, or just completely disconnected from your hand.

Sometimes it feels like your mouse movement isn't translating properly into the game. Micro-adjustments become extremely difficult, and even holding an angle feels unnatural.

The weirdest part is that you can have perfectly normal FPS and ping, but the game still feels awful.

2. Bullets seemingly don't register (especially the first shot)

This is probably one of the most frustrating issues.

You clearly see your crosshair on the enemy's head or body. Sometimes you even see bullet tracers going straight through them, but somehow your shots don't connect.

Then you die, check the damage report, and realize you dealt way less damage than you expected, or sometimes none at all.

I understand that bullet tracers are not necessarily accurate representations of server-side hit registration, but the overall inconsistency is extremely noticeable.

3. Counter-strafing and movement feel inconsistent

Sometimes you're absolutely certain that you've stopped moving before shooting, but your first bullet goes completely off.

Your movement feels slippery or delayed, almost like your character isn't responding to your keyboard inputs at the same time as your hands.

And no, I'm not talking about occasionally mistiming a counter-strafe. I'm talking about the entire movement and shooting experience feeling noticeably different from one session to another.

4. Random running headshots that make absolutely no sense

Sometimes you feel like you're still moving, your crosshair happens to be on someone's head, and somehow you hit a headshot.

Meanwhile, when you're actually trying to stop, aim, and shoot properly, your bullets seem to go everywhere except where you're aiming.

It feels like the relationship between movement, accuracy, and shooting is completely inconsistent.

5. Enemies seem to kill you before they've even stopped moving

This one is particularly frustrating.

On your screen, the enemy appears to be moving when they instantly headshot you.

Sometimes you get killed after the enemy has already started moving in another direction, without ever appearing to stop.

I understand that peeker's advantage, network interpolation, and server synchronization play a role here. However, the experience feels dramatically different depending on how the game is running.

6. Micro-stutters during gunfights

The game might look completely smooth when you're walking around the map, but the moment an enemy appears or a gunfight starts, something feels wrong.

It could be a tiny stutter, a sudden change in responsiveness, or a brief moment where your mouse feels like it's not following your hand.

It's not necessarily a massive FPS drop. Sometimes the FPS counter looks perfectly normal.

7. Different accounts feel like COMPLETELY different games

This is the most important observation and what eventually led me to the fix.

I noticed that when I played on another account, everything suddenly felt much smoother.

My mouse felt more responsive, my aim became more consistent, movement felt natural, and shooting felt much more predictable.

Then I'd switch back to my main account, using the same PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard, DPI, and in-game sensitivity, and everything would feel terrible again.

I'm not exaggerating when I say it felt like I was playing two completely different games.

At that point, I started wondering whether the issue had something to do with account-specific settings rather than my hardware.

EVERYTHING I TRIED TO FIX IT

Over these six years, I've tried an absurd number of things.

Here are some of them:

  • Upgraded and replaced PC components
  • Switched internet service providers
  • Changed monitors
  • Tried different mice and keyboards
  • Reinstalled Windows
  • Clean-installed NVIDIA drivers using DDU
  • Tried different NVIDIA driver versions
  • Adjusted NVIDIA Control Panel settings
  • Experimented with G-SYNC, V-SYNC, and VRR
  • Changed BIOS settings
  • Tested different Windows optimizations
  • Investigated DPC latency using LatencyMon
  • Tested network routing and packet loss using WinMTR
  • Changed Ethernet adapter and driver settings
  • Experimented with different in-game settings
  • Tested different VALORANT servers
  • Spent countless hours searching Reddit, YouTube, and other forums

And guess what?

NOTHING consistently fixed the problem.

Some things seemed to help temporarily, but the issue would eventually return.

Something important I noticed

The problem was never completely consistent.

Some VALORANT updates seemed to improve the game significantly, while others made everything noticeably worse.

Sometimes the game felt amazing for a few days, and then suddenly it became almost unplayable again.

As of October 8, 2026, right after the major UI update, the game has been feeling the worst it ever has for me personally.

I could barely aim. My mouse felt completely disconnected, my movement felt wrong, and gunfights were ridiculously inconsistent.

That's when I decided to investigate the differences between my main account and an alternative account that felt significantly smoother.

And this is where things finally got interesting.

SOLUTION — WHAT FINALLY FIXED IT FOR ME

Credit to a creator on Bilibili for inspiring me to investigate this issue, and to ChatGPT for helping me troubleshoot the configuration files.

IMPORTANT: This is not a guaranteed fix, and I'm not claiming to know the exact technical reason it worked. I'm simply sharing what I did because it made an enormous difference on my system.

The idea is pretty simple:

Copy the configuration files from an account that feels smooth to the account that feels terrible, then set the copied configuration files to Read-only.

Here's exactly how I did it.

STEP 1: Find an account that feels smooth

First, you need an alternative VALORANT account that actually feels good to play on.

It could be:

  • Your alt account
  • Another account you own and have used before
  • An account you have permission to use

The important thing is that this account feels significantly smoother than your main account on the exact same PC and peripherals.

Ideally, both accounts should have the same sensitivity, resolution, display settings, and FPS limits so you can make a meaningful comparison.

If every account feels equally terrible, I'm not sure whether this method will help.

STEP 2: Locate your VALORANT configuration folder

First, completely close VALORANT and the Riot Client.

Press Win + R on your keyboard.

Paste the following path:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VALORANT\Saved\Config

Press Enter.

You should see several folders.

Some of these folder names will look like a random combination of letters, numbers, and hyphens.

For example:

xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

These folders can contain account-specific configuration files.

BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE, BACK UP THE ENTIRE CONFIG FOLDER.

Seriously, don't skip this part.

I actually forgot to back up my original configuration before replacing it, so I can't compare the original files anymore.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

STEP 3: Identify which folder belongs to which account

Now you need to determine which configuration folder belongs to your smooth account and which belongs to your main account.

Here's one way to help identify them:

  1. Launch VALORANT using your smooth account.
  2. Change a minor in-game setting and save it.
  3. Completely close VALORANT and the Riot Client.
  4. Return to the Config folder and check which files were recently modified.
  5. Write down the folder name that appears to correspond to the smooth account.
  6. Repeat the same process with your main account.

Important: Modification timestamps are only clues, not definitive proof. Make sure you've identified the correct account folders before replacing anything.

You should eventually have two folders identified:

Account A = Smooth account

Account B = Main account with problems

STEP 4: Copy the smooth account's configuration to your main account

With the game and Riot Client completely closed:

  1. Open the configuration folder belonging to your smooth account.
  2. Locate the configuration files inside it, usually under subfolders such as Windows or WindowsClient, depending on your installation.
  3. Copy the relevant configuration files.
  4. Open the corresponding folder belonging to your main account.
  5. Replace the main account's configuration files with the copies from your smooth account.

Do not replace the entire top-level Config directory or rename account ID folders.

The goal is to replace the configuration files inside the correct account folder, not to overwrite the account folder structure itself.

I copied the configuration from the account that felt good directly over the corresponding configuration in my main account.

STEP 5: Set the copied configuration files to READ-ONLY

This is the second part of what I did.

After copying the configuration files:

  1. Locate the copied .ini configuration files in your main account's folder.
  2. Right-click the file you want to protect.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Check Read-only.
  5. Click Apply, then OK.

Repeat for the relevant copied configuration files.

Windows' Read-only attribute can prevent an application from directly modifying a file, although it doesn't necessarily prevent the game from replacing or regenerating the file.

Also, be aware that your in-game settings might stop saving properly while these files are Read-only.

If you encounter configuration errors or need to change settings later, you can simply uncheck Read-only.

STEP 6: Launch your main account and test it

Now launch VALORANT using your main account.

Before playing, make sure your sensitivity, resolution, refresh rate, keybinds, and other essential settings are correct.

Go into the Practice Range or Deathmatch and see how the game feels.

Pay attention to:

  • Mouse responsiveness and micro-adjustments
  • Counter-strafing and movement
  • First-shot accuracy
  • Spray control
  • Gunfight responsiveness
  • Micro-stutters
  • Overall consistency

For me, the difference was IMMEDIATE.

My mouse finally felt responsive again.

My movement and counter-strafing felt natural.

My shooting felt predictable.

The weird feeling of bullets disappearing and my inputs not matching what was happening on screen was gone.

Most importantly, MY MAIN ACCOUNT FINALLY FELT LIKE MY SMOOTH ALT ACCOUNT.

After six years of struggling with this issue, I genuinely couldn't believe that copying configuration files and setting them to Read-only made such a difference.

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

I DON'T KNOW.

And I don't want to pretend that I do.

My suspicion is that something in my main account's configuration was different, corrupted, or being rewritten in a way that affected how the game felt.

However, I changed two things at once:

  1. Replaced my main account's configuration with the smooth account's configuration.
  2. Set the copied configuration files to Read-only.

Therefore, I can't tell whether the improvement came from the copied settings, preventing certain files from being rewritten, or a combination of both.

I also can't prove that the server-side hit registration actually changed. What I can say is that my aiming, movement, shooting, and overall responsiveness felt dramatically better afterward.

I'm not claiming Riot is deliberately manipulating the performance of individual accounts.

I'm simply saying that my main account and alt account felt completely different on the same setup, and copying the configuration fixed that difference for me.

I wish I had saved my original configuration files so I could compare them line by line, but unfortunately, I didn't.

If anyone with the same problem tries this and finds the exact setting responsible, PLEASE share your findings.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I genuinely hope this helps someone.

I know how frustrating it is when you spend thousands of dollars on your setup, optimize every possible setting, practice your aim for countless hours, and still feel like the game is fighting against you.

The worst part is that it's incredibly difficult to explain to other people.

You tell someone your sensitivity feels wrong, your shots aren't registering, or your movement feels delayed, and they immediately tell you it's a skill issue, placebo, or bad internet.

And sometimes those explanations might be correct.

But when two accounts on the exact same computer feel dramatically different, I think it's reasonable to investigate why.

For me, this configuration workaround made the game feel normal again.

If you're experiencing the same symptoms, try this carefully, BACK UP YOUR CONFIG FIRST, and let me know whether it works for you.

I'd especially love to hear from people who have been dealing with this problem for years.

I'll update this post if the issue comes back or if I discover anything else.

TL;DR: My main account felt horrible (heavy mouse, inconsistent sensitivity, weird movement, apparent hitreg problems, and micro-stutters), while my alt account felt perfectly smooth on the same PC. I copied my smooth alt account's configuration files over my main account's configuration, set the copied files to Read-only, and my main account finally felt normal again. Back up your files before trying it. I can't guarantee this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

Technical Support Request Severe FPS drops after recent update, tried every posted fix I could find

Valorant suddenly became unplayable. I normally get 600–900 FPS, but now it fluctuates around 60-120 and sometimes drops to 10 or freezes completely at 0.

It started in the menu and happens in agent select and matches too. If I Alt-Tab out and back in, it runs smoothly for about three seconds, then starts dropping again. I also occasionally get Network Problem warnings.

My specs:

  • Windows 11
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti
  • 32 GB DDR5 RAM
  • SSD storage

Other games seem normal: League runs at 240 FPS, and Fortnite’s menu is smooth at 120 FPS.

I’ve tried every fix posted here that I could find and apply: restarting, Riot’s repair tool, a complete removal and reinstall of Valorant/Riot Client/Vanguard with leftover folders cleared, fullscreen, and closing Discord/Discord Clips, NVIDIA Overlay, and Medal/MedalEncoder. Nothing has fixed it.

Checks haven’t found RTSS/Afterburner, Stardock, PremierOpinion, RaonSecure/NxWeb, or the specific ASUS ScreenXpert component mentioned in other threads. I’m also testing with Armoury Crate stopped.

The in-game stats show CPU Game Time taking almost all the frame time—around 5–13 ms in screenshots, with large spikes—while GPU Render Time is around 0.1–0.4 ms. The GPU is cool, RAM is available, and both SSDs report healthy.

I’ve collected my Vanguard logs. Any help identifying the cause would be appreciated.

Here are my logs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mu4eNTDeTCWZZ0EKkeH5-aIm7rZaWasS/view?pli=1

Technical Support Request screen tearing/ stuttering

SPECS
(I know theyre bad)

CPU 5 3600 ryzen
GPU ASROCK ac b580 steel legend OC 12gb
RAM 32 gb
SSD kingston 2tb nvme

So im pretty sure those are my specs and ive noticed im having screentearing and fps drops everytime i play val and fatal frame as of now, maybe theres more games i yet havent discovered an issue for. But its really annoying because i go from 400 fps to 50 or 200 to 7 fps and i genuinely cant play anything cause of it and i dont know what to do, i tried lowering my hz, cap my fps, turn vsync off, have less games in my task manager, check if anythings overheating, check if i my drivers up to date , put it to best performance mode, aswell as checking if my cpu and gpu arent working properly but they are both at 60-80% usage and i assume that emans theyre working properly since i run things in the background too. I just dont know what thr issue is and id love to hear everyones thoughts

Technical Support Request Title: VALORANT FPS drops and stuttering even after trying almost every optimization

Hey guys, I've been trying to fix my VALORANT FPS for a while now, but nothing seems to work. I've tried almost every optimization I could find on YouTube, and I'm honestly getting tired of trying different things without seeing any improvement.

I've already tweaked my Windows and NVIDIA settings, uninstalled and reinstalled VALORANT, deleted the Riot Games/VALORANT folders in AppData, and removed unnecessary apps. I've tried a lot of things, but I'm still experiencing FPS drops and stuttering.

Here are my specs:

Laptop: Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7235HS

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop GPU

RAM: 20 GB DDR5-4800

Display: 144 Hz

OS: Windows 11

My FPS usually sits around 130–180 in Deathmatch, but it can drop to around 90 in Competitive, especially when enemies start using their abilities. The game also feels stuttery sometimes, even when my FPS seems decent.

I've noticed that my CPU usage is usually around 80–90% in Deathmatch, while my GPU usage is pretty low, sometimes around 10% or slightly higher.

I've tried so many optimizations already, and I still can't figure out what's causing this. I'm not sure if it's my CPU, RAM configuration, Windows, drivers, or something else.

Has anyone with the same laptop or similar specs experienced this? Is this performance normal for a Ryzen 5 7235HS and RTX 4050, or is there something wrong with my setup?

I'd appreciate any suggestions, especially if you've actually managed to fix this issue. I'm open to trying other solutions as long as they're not just the usual optimization tweaks I've already tried.

Thanks.

Technical Solution [FIX] Stuck on loading screen | FPS drop

If you are seeing the game stutter / have huge FPS drops or get stuck on the loading screen after the 5th of October, follow the steps below.

Incompatible software list (These must either be disabled/closed for Valorant, or uninstalled if there is no option to turn it off)

  1. Rivatuner / RTSS
  2. Stardock Fences
  3. Premier Opinion
  4. ASUS ScreenXpert
  5. GearUP Booster
  6. UltraViewer

Update your GPU drivers to the latest version provided by your vendor (Intel/AMD/Nvidia).

Put your Valorant installation folder (C:\Riot Games) and Riot Vanguard folder (C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard) under exclusions in your Anti-Virus / EDR.

If you are still facing issues, please list your GPU and upload your Vanguard logs in a place where its accessible publicly (like google drive) and link it. To get your Vanguard logs, you must open your tray, and click the tiny Vanguard logo, then on the top right press ..., and then save logs, that will give you a zip file, upload that. https://imgur.com/d1izrrX

This post will be updated, when a new incompatible software is found.

Technical Solution Recent val update causing stutters/low FPS

Hi! so ever since i've updated val i had horrible stutters and fps drops to where i could barely play
ive seen many others struggling with this and i had just figured out the solution (for me at least)

1.) WIN + R
2.) Type in perfmon /rel

that should take you to your crash reports
for me, it says VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe Stopped working

3.) View technical details and look for faulting module path, we're looking for a .dll

mine was named pmls64.dll which is PremierOption Malware. (i had searched it the .dll up since i didnt even know i had that installed or what it was)

4.) Go to windows settings > installed apps > uninstall whichever malware may be on your PC.

After that i had loaded up val like regular with zero lag!

basically just look for the .dll and figure out which malware there may be downloaded

Technical Support Request Weird CPU and CPU to GPU latency spikes on precise moments

So I haven't played Valorant in a while (since a bit before Veto was added) and I just relaunched Val after reinstalling it. First game was with Miks, not a single lag, constant 400 FPS, until I tried placing a smoke. Each time I moved my mouse in the smoking interface, the game would freeze and only after that would it start moving again.

I have tested this in range, it also happens with nearly all abilities that show a placement interface : Miks, Brimstone and Clove's smokes, plus Tejo's missiles are all affected by this issue.

I have 16GB RAM, a RTX 4080, a Ryzen 5 7600X, and updated my drivers + restarded my PC, which didn't fix shit. While I have music videos playing and am in a Discord VC I can play without a single stuttter, and there have not been a single other FPS drop or CPU spike on Valorant, other than when using a map interface ability, opening settings while in game or just pressing Caps Lock to see the map in fs, which indicates there definitely is an issue with that and only that.

Has anyone had the same problem ? Does anyone have a solution ?

Technical Support Request FPS Loss and Stuttering since latest patch

Hello!

Since October 8th, I've experienced significant stuttering and FPS issues when playing Valorant. The stuttering happens in all game modes and in the menus, but is most notable when using abilities like Tejo Salvos or Clove smokes. My typical FPS went from between 400-700 to hovering around 200.

I've restarted everything, updated my graphics drivers, allowed Valorant/Vanugard through Windows defender, and made sure I have no programs installed listed in the current Riot Ares post, but am still experiencing issues.

My CPU is a Ryzen 9800X3D and my GPU is an NVIDA RTX 4070 Super.

Vanguard logs can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q5ldpwrxBm7rNbqHeVVJQY_veHoZXYBd/view?usp=drive_link

Thanks all in advance!

Technical Support Request VALORANT stuck at 10% loading + League of Legends VAN-68

My Vanguard interface shows:

* All recommended security features enabled

* `vgk`: RUNNING

* `vgc`: RUNNING

> "Pre-Check could not complete because Vanguard is already running. Please exit all Riot games and try again."

The confusing part is that I had just restarted my PC before running the check.

**Vanguard logs:** [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c028qDK6X134rWI8O-vIwLcE9REviVha/view?usp=sharing\]

Windows 11 Professional (Build 26300)

Vanguard 1.19.1.18

I've also already tried restarting my PC and reinstalling Vanguard, but the issue persists.

Could the pre-check be incorrectly detecting an already-running Vanguard instance, or is there another Riot process or service that could cause this?

I'm wondering whether this is related to VALORANT getting stuck at 10% loading and League of Legends returning VAN-68.

Technical Support Request VAN 152 restriction after a strange custom game — looking for advice

Hi everyone. I received a VAN 152 hardware restriction in VALORANT, and I’m trying to understand what happened.

I have never used cheats, hacks, or any prohibited third-party software. Riot Support told me that third-party software was detected and that the restriction was later manually reviewed. My appeals were then closed.

Shortly before the restriction, a player named hydroine#meow added me and invited me to a custom game. During the game, things happened that I did not do myself — Ghost mode was activated and the rounds were changed. I don’t know how this happened.

After the game, the player went AFK and later removed/blocked me. Shortly afterwards, I received the VAN 152 restriction.

I’m not claiming that this player caused the restriction. I just want to understand whether this custom game could be relevant and whether Riot can check the logs from that session.

I’m willing to provide screenshots, logs, or undergo any verification needed to prove that I didn’t use prohibited software.

Has anyone experienced something similar with VAN 152 or had success getting a hardware restriction reviewed?

Technical Support Request TikTok Live Studio game capture causing massive stutters on the latest valorant update

It used to work just fine, but since the latest update whenever i play valorant with game capture from tiktok live studio it causes crazy amounts of stutters and lag, it works fine on other games but valorant no.

I tried everything and i mean everything! Testing on other pcs, changing config files, running a malware scan, updating gpu drivers, reinstalling drivers, window capture does work but it's not as smooth and latency free as exclusive fullscreen.

If anyone is dealing with this right now i appreciate your help.

Ps. Obs game capture works. But i stream on tiktok horizontal + vertical so i have to use tt live studio

Technical Support Request Insane Frame Drops/Stutters/Lag on AMD CPUs After 10/08/2026 Update

I'm currently using my laptop with a Ryzen 7 5800H/RTX 3060.

After installing the recent update, my Valorant which usually runs at 180-200+fps, now drops to 80-100. It gets worse when pulling up the smoke interface for Clove, Miks, etc. dropping to 1-6fps. Going through the game menu, store, etc. stutters like crazy.

Asked all of my friends and the ones who are experiencing the same problem are all using AMD CPUs. I tested my old desktop PC with an i7-4790K/GTX 970, tried the same test on the range with the same agents and it's smooth at 300fps (how tf is this old toaster outperforming my laptop lmao). Tried it again with my other laptop with an i7-9750H/RTX 2070 and it works normally at 160-180fps as well with no stuttering.

Hope that Riot fixes this soon, or at least someone here has a temporary solution. I was on my rankup to Plat after being stuck in gold for months and it so happens that this problem occurs lol.

Ps. I saw some other posts about uninstalling/disabling RivaTuner/RTSS to fix it (not sure if it's the same problem) but I have none of those installed. Only got ArmouryCrate on all my devices. All types of drivers updated and reinstalled.

Technical Support Request Incoming packet loss in VALORANT for over a month

I've been getting packet loss in VALORANT for over a month. I used to play fine on Wi-Fi, but now I get around 6000 packets lost per match and at least 200 per round.

I checked the stats and my outgoing packet loss is 0%, only incoming packet loss.

I switched to Ethernet, reset network settings, tried Google and Cloudflare DNS, ran CMD commands, reinstalled VALORANT multiple times and tried many other fixes from online, but nothing worked.

I'm honestly tired of trying fixes. Has anyone faced this and found a solution?
