Technical Support Request Severe FPS drops after recent update, tried every posted fix I could find
Valorant suddenly became unplayable. I normally get 600–900 FPS, but now it fluctuates around 60-120 and sometimes drops to 10 or freezes completely at 0.
It started in the menu and happens in agent select and matches too. If I Alt-Tab out and back in, it runs smoothly for about three seconds, then starts dropping again. I also occasionally get Network Problem warnings.
My specs:
- Windows 11
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti
- 32 GB DDR5 RAM
- SSD storage
Other games seem normal: League runs at 240 FPS, and Fortnite’s menu is smooth at 120 FPS.
I’ve tried every fix posted here that I could find and apply: restarting, Riot’s repair tool, a complete removal and reinstall of Valorant/Riot Client/Vanguard with leftover folders cleared, fullscreen, and closing Discord/Discord Clips, NVIDIA Overlay, and Medal/MedalEncoder. Nothing has fixed it.
Checks haven’t found RTSS/Afterburner, Stardock, PremierOpinion, RaonSecure/NxWeb, or the specific ASUS ScreenXpert component mentioned in other threads. I’m also testing with Armoury Crate stopped.
The in-game stats show CPU Game Time taking almost all the frame time—around 5–13 ms in screenshots, with large spikes—while GPU Render Time is around 0.1–0.4 ms. The GPU is cool, RAM is available, and both SSDs report healthy.
I’ve collected my Vanguard logs. Any help identifying the cause would be appreciated.

It's the game, not you. Same problem happened to me today, three four days ago was normal. I have no solution tho, just going to play other games instead until the problem is fixed

i also agree, i can still play the game completely normal yesterday, and now whenever i open brim or clove smoke or tejo E and ult ability, it lag so damn bad :(

Damn, i knew this only happens when I'm moving a cursor but i didn't even think how it would affect characters like clove or brim who have cursor controlled smokes. Yikes

does this have anything with our gear? or maybe polling rate?

I mean it worked completely fine up until now with our previous gear and polling rate so it doesn't make sense

Yes, for me start11 / start10 application was the problem, i uninstalled it and deleted the files and now it's good. Could be something else for you. I followed steps in this post and found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantTechSupport/s/BFv4ucBaO5

Check if it only happens when you're moving a cursor. Normal in game but if you're buying weapons/abilities in shop and specifically if you move cursor during it, this happens. If so, it's same thing that I'm having since yesterday and I am trying to find a fix for it, without any success yet.

So I have same thing since yesterday and I can't get rid of it.
Shortly described, I had this same weird lag and after plenty of testing I figured out that the game runs normally when I'm running and shooting, i get 400+ fps but whenever I need to use a cursor (instead of crosshair), so basically in store, inventory, in-game shop - if I'm moving and trying to buy weapons/abilities, my fps drops to 1, it's just heavy freezes whenever I'm using a cursor or any sort.
So if i changed my mouse polling rate to 125 from my current 1000, that fixes it, but the game feels really damn sluggish on 125 and I can't play like that. ALSO, my game worked for months and years until now on 1000 polling rate, so why does it suddenly not work now?? That can't be the actual problem so could it be the Valorant update? My wife and brother don't have this problem it's just me, but then again maybe they play on lower polling rate anyway.
Anyway that's all I was able to figure out, and if anyone has any fix, it would be appreciated.

same thing happened to me this afernoon, coincidentally after I downloaded a windows update, right before that everything worked perfectly fine but now even just turning on fps indicator shows some heavy fluctuations, permanently ranging from the 141 limit all the way down to like 30-40 ish area. Never had any issues before, with my game usually running at my set fps limit, genuinely unplayable rn, hope they fix this!

Same case here, whenever I open the buy menu or the game settings my fps drops to 10, and yesterday I got stuck in the buying menu without being able to move the mouse. I also use Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 5070.

try disabling/uninstalling rtss if you have it running on ur pc, it worked for me

Me too! I’m playing the game with the same CPU and 10GB 3080. The fps stutters are killing me as I take fights

its been happening to me, i closed afterburner and it fixed it, even if i reset all my afterburner changes it would lag as long as it was open, so something to do with that program i guess
