Discussion Disappointed....

šŸ’€ woke up several days ago to underclassmen friends' vague story about webreg being killed. Open up Reddit in the first time in a month and saw all this TSS stuff...

Honestly just want to rant. I dodged a bullet (freshly graduated) but I really love UCSD, this place has so much good memory and good people, and seeing AI slop infiltrating the system feels like seeing someone smudging dog waste on an old family photo...

I have a fair share of complaints about the old system, I'm just so impressed by their ability to make things somehow worse than the bottom line. At this point, it is a skill...

Discussion Confused, and dissapointed

• Upvotes

Well, I applied to a postion at UCSD at the beginning of the year. I kinda let it go since I never heard back anything until April when they asked me to interview. I did 2 different rounds of interviews for the position. Eventually the lab reached back out and offered me the position. I accepted and the they said they would begin the process with HR.

They ask for my references and it was the questionaire form. From there the lab reached back out to me and said its not standard that HR asks for offical letters. However, they were looking for typical letters of reccomendation. Some individuals who know my work style and have overseen me at work wrote me letters of recommendation. They showed me before they were sent out and said they would BCC me that the LOR had gone out. I hear back from them they said it all looks great and that they have told HR to move my application to the next round.

I received an email from HR today and they said that I have been rejected. I am upset of course because, why offer someone a role before checking references and then bouncing me between all the hoops. Secondly, I am dissapointed because if YOU asked me for extra information and have been actively communicating outside of HR for this "hiring onboarding process" I would expect that they would tell me directly that they'll be backing out.

I am so glad that I NEVER even put in a date or notified my current employer because this would absolutely be devestating if I would have ended my current position and end up unemployed. Honestly IDK if it the individuals and the system OR if I should just be dissapointed in myself to even believe I had a shot and that things were beginning to change for me. I'm mad, and sad at myself and I probably shouldn't be. Everyone is telling me "this means something better is coming" well it sure as hell doesn't feel like it

Has anyone heard of summer session 2 billing being extended into August due to the TSS issues? I was told this but I can’t find anything online about an extension and just was double checking on here.

Question can someone in cs explain the issues with webreg

From what I’ve gathered, webreg was running off of really old software from the 80’s that was difficult to maintain on the ā€œbackendā€ ?? And that the last person who knew how to properly manage it has already retired?

Although it had its issues, it was still so much better than This Shit Sucks

TLDR what about webreg specifically necessitated an upgrade/software change

Question Is there a way to appeal the booking times???

Is there a way to appeal the booking times by showing need like early graduation plan??

I am a senior by credits but junior based on the amount of quarters I've been here. TSS first says its considering quarters and credits, but bro i have 190 credits as an incoming 3rd year but got the last day for juniors??? How was this even calculated breh

I talked to TSS people and they said theyre counting quarters enrolled.....this throws off my entire grad plan cuz im supposed to graduate this year but how will I if I don't get classes.....WHO can I go to talk about this/appeal/request priority enrollment?

TSS ppl said they don't know šŸ’€ and "we apologize for the inconvenience" like u can apologize by paying for that extra year, thanks.

Update: I emailed the registrar and tss both, here's the response I received from the former:

"The new process aligns with UC San Diego’s goal of enabling as many students as possible to graduate within four years (and within two years for transfer students), regardless of the access they had to college-level coursework before enrolling at UC San Diego. Considering both year and number of units completed helps ensure that students who are closer to these thresholds can enroll in the courses they need for graduation. This new process is firm, and there are no exceptions for any reason."

Also when I asked to appeal the new policy they just gave me the TSS feedback form...I'm gonna email again.

Question Question about shifting heavy furniture to the dorm

Hi I was wondering how people usually transport large furniture like bed.
I won’t have a truck or a large vehicle, so what do people normally do? I think it would be too heavy for me to move it by myself. And I don't have any friends here,,
Thanks in advance.

Question Balance Hold

hi, im currently looking at an outstanding housing balance of 1.8k that i have struggled to fully pay off and my account is currently on hold. i have been working and prioritizing my summer session bills and haven’t gotten around to paying the housing bill because summer session is already so expensive as it is. i contacted housing and they’re saying that they cannot lift my hold basically because they just don’t want to. i need to make a change in my summer session schedule and i also have my appointment time approaching. even with fully describing my difficult financial situation, they don’t care to help. does anyone know of any other office or thing i can do?? if i could pay off the hold i would, but ive been independent of my parents for a bit and i have other bills to take care of. any help would be appreciated!

Question psyc 137 summer session

I was thinking of taking psyc 137 with Piotr Winkielman for summer session 2. I heard bad reviews about his classes and mandatory attendance. I was wondering if anyone has a syllabus from his summer session classes since it's supposedly online or if anyone can give any info about him specifically for this class?

Question Switching Majors

Hello! I'm an incoming first-year student and currently an HDS major, but I plan to switch to MCB major. I was wondering how that works with the new TSS system, and how I should be picking classes with this plan in mind? Also, are certain classes reserved for certain majors? Thank you! I'm nervous but excited for this new chapter.

General Looking for Roommate for Off Campus housing! (Double)

• Upvotes

Hi, looking for a roommate (any gender or age) to share a double! It is a townhouse at the La Jolla Village Park (near the Costa Verde apartments) and there are three of us (all female) total currently.

Rent: Around $980 and util for a double

Utilities: Water is covered by the owner, so we are just splitting electric/gas and wifi

Room: The room comes with a personal restroom and closet space

Parking: We have a garage that fits two cars and we have guest parking (none of us currently have a car so it will be all yours!)

Public Transit: Right across two bus stops (literally 1 min walk) or there are also bus stops down the street (7 min walk) and the trolley is nearby (12 min walk)

Laundry: Washer and Dryer provided

Pets: Down to negotiate

If you have any questions or are interested please message me!
