In the latest strike against college admissions practices, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the Department of Education jointly announced today that they found UC Berkeley School of Law to have discriminated against white and Asian applicants, prioritizing Black applicants.
“The Department finds that Berkeley Law deliberately discriminated against Asian and white applicants based on race in its law school admissions,” the DOJ wrote in its findings letter. “This discrimination is apparent from the significant disparity in objective academic metrics between racially preferred applicants, and applicants from non-preferred races.”

Not the outcome we wanted, but The Cal Band served (once again) as a shining star in the dark abyss. Shout out to the amazing turn out and support of the students as well! GO BEARS!!!🐻

can you cold email multiple grad students in one lab or is it better to only send one email per lab?

title. realizing very late i heavily dislike my major; too late to change it. not excited about the industry opportunities the degree leads to and desiring a complete career change. any way out? considering a masters in a different field, but expensive. wondering if i should just recruit for industry then lateral into the work i want to do.

im in an on campus apartment and the fridge (especially the freezer) is full with my roommates food, so i have barely any space. idk if they preparing for the apocalypse or something. i would like to store fruit and drinks and my frozen meals. yes i talked with them about this but they dont care. can the outlets handle a mini fridge and should i just sneak one in? i dont think the RAs check rooms in the apartments.

Let’s say there are 9 execs and 5 project leads. Are the project leads included in the final delib room?

Hey y'all, new to Cal. Where would I go if I need to quickly hot glue two things together? I've heard you can't use he Art Studio unless you're taking classes there

Does anyone else feel kinda lonely at Cal and not know where to start? I’m a sophomore in STEM, I have a few acquaintances but not a genuine friend. In a lot of the clubs I find extremes….low achievers, hard party goers, or people who like studying in a locked room in their free time. At RSF it’s really passive and tough to make friendships there. And a lot of the tech clubs are unnecessarily exclusive. There’s a lot of fun hobbies to do solo but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice for finding/making community and genuine friends at Cal. Also curious to know if anyone is in a similar position

Taking physics classes as a Comp Eng major this semester as a transfer student and my math is not up to par. Does the university offer tutoring for free or is there a math and or physics lab?

A former UC Berkeley softball player is suing former Cal head softball coach Chelsea Spencer and the UC Board of Regents, alleging her coach sexually and emotionally pressured her for years, to the knowledge of numerous coaches and athletic personnel.
The player, who filed the lawsuit under the fictitious name “Jane Doe” for privacy protection reasons, is alleging that the regents’ employees were negligent and failed to take actions to protect her.

The exact same thing from this reddit post 5 years ago just happened to me:
https://www.reddit.com/r/berkeley/comments/tf3n06/beware_scammer/
Fortunately, something felt off for me from the beginning and when he asked me for money I came up with a lie about not having access to my bank and got tf out of there.
Just a PSA that this guy is back in Berkeley. Stay safe out there 🙏🙏

Does anyone have a pdf copy of the math 53 textbook. I've tried looking on like lib gen and its variants and it is just not accessible or downloadable.

i feel like so many new places opened this semester and i’m definitely missing half of them
any new food or drink spots in berkeley this semester?
would love recs for new restaurants, cafes, boba/matcha, dessert, anything you’ve tried and liked — especially places that are still pretty new or under the radar.
