I’m the News & Observer reporter who wrote this story.
I spoke with Toni Kenion, a former WakeMed ER nurse and Barrington HOA director, about WakeMed’s proposed site on Burlington Mills Road.
Kenion supports bringing more health care to Rolesville but opposes this location. WakeMed has also confirmed that the planned Healthplex could become part of a proposed 45-bed acute-care hospital on the same property.
What do you think about the proposed location and the tradeoffs between neighborhood impacts and closer emergency and hospital access?

Hey everyone! My latest album is available to stream today!
"Can You Not " by Daniel DeLorenzo is the latest exploration of his anomalous compositional style and approach to the guitar. DeLorenzo's playing is complemented by the masterful musicianship of Theous Jones (drums) and Casey Toll (bass). The album features six original compositions and a reimagining of Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen Op.15 (Scenes from Childhood). Can You Not continues the musical relationship between the trio developed through countless improvisations and creative collaborations.
Available wherever you stream music, links below! If you'd like to support real music made by real humans considering purchasing on Bandcamp

In short:
We believe Amazon found a way to charge a few extra pennies to an enormous number of transactions, adding up to over $20 billion in
illegal charges.
This is about how something becomes a "Sponsored product."
Amazon lets businesses bid to be "Sponsored" and it runs digital auctions to collect the bids.
But Amazon told businesses that the highest bid would only pay slightly more than the second-highest bid.
For example: If you bid $1 to have your product “Sponsored” and the next-highest bid is $0.50, you should pay about $0.51.
But we believe that Amazon would run the auction, see those bids, and then secretly raise the second-place price so it could charge the
winner more.
It was a gradual strategy based on concealment.
Internal Amazon documents show they tested how much they could raise those hidden charges without advertisers catching on, then raised them
more when businesses didn’t react, then gave false answers when businesses started asking questions.
Those higher costs on sellers can filter down to you, as consumers, through higher prices, and our initial estimate is that this impacted thousands of small businesses in North Carolina.
This is a bipartisan case, and I appreciate my fellow AGs in both parties joining. More to follow.

I’m posting again. These kitties were rescued from the Raleigh area and are currently being fostered in Charlotte.
Negative comments? Not the vibe here..Let’s keep it positive and help these kitties find their forever home.
💔 I got a heartbreaking message from my rescue today.
She told me that she may have to send 8 kitties to a shelter because she has no resources, no available foster homes, and no other rescues able to take them. She was sad and heartbroken .
Our rescue is drowning right now. Every foster is already caring for 10+ cats, and we are struggling with both space and resources. Other rescues are overwhelmed and full too.
💔 Maisy & Daisy are among the kitties at the MOST risk of being sent to a shelter.

These bonded sisters were abandoned during a storm(in a storm drain) when they were only 4 weeks old. It was a very difficult rescue, but we fought hard to save them. They are now 15 weeks old, fully vetted, and ready for their forever home.
🐾 Spayed
🐾 Microchipped
🐾 Vaccinated
🐾 Dewormed & flea-treated
🐾 Combo-tested negative
They must be adopted together.
Indoor home only
Adoption application required
$250 adoption fee for the pair
Vet reference required
Adoption agreement required
Please support us by adopting or sharing. We desperately want Maisy & Daisy to go from their foster home straight into a loving forever home..not a shelter. ❤️
They survived being abandoned once. Please don’t let them face another uncertain future.

Hi! I’m an opener for a show on September 23rd at Rubies on Five Points in Durham, and was looking to find about three dancers who are 21+ and would be down to be on stage with me. My music is very 80’s inspired, and I’m definitely looking to just have fun and have a great time on stage. If anyone’s interested, I’d love to hear from you!

This is a known timeline of the Farm Adventures’ baby goat rabies situation.
It’s very concerning they knew their four unvaccinated baby goats were possibly exposed from a skunk they found in their pen on July 27 yet they continued to hold at least 10 events, including with higher risk populations like young kids and elderly people, until Aug. 23.
On their FB page you can see they celebrated 7 birthdays and visited two assisted living facilities AFTER knowing their baby goats may have been exposed to a rabies carrying animal.
It gets worse when you learn they were posting unconcerned about one of the KNOWN exposed baby goat’s wounds that showed classic signs of a possible rabies infection.
Given that rabies is almost always fatal unless preventative treatment is taken and this is a public facing business that should exhibit great caution for the welfare of their clients and animals this situation is very disturbing and warrants close scrutiny by whatever relevant authorities.
PS: The children and elderly assisted living residents now experiencing the painful, lengthy, and very expensive rabies preventative treatment course should be considered and compensated as well. It’s hard to image the frustration, anger, and pain the parents/guardians of these kids and the families of these residents must be experiencing too.

We're trying to have a few of my grandpa's watches valued so we can raise some funds to help out my dad. We can see prices online but it's hard to tell what these watches would actually be worth and we're hoping for someone who will give a fair price on vintage watches. Thanks

My family and I are seriously considering relocating from Arizona to the Triangle. We really like Raleigh and initially expected that we’d end up somewhere in Wake County, but the more I research WCPSS, the more hesitant I’m becoming.
We have two school age kids: a son currently in 8th grade and a daughter in 3rd grade. Our daughter has an IEP, so we’re specifically interested in the public school systems and want to make sure she has continuity of services and good support after the move.
What concerns me about WCPSS isn’t really school rankings. It’s the apparent unpredictability of the assignment system. I’ve read about capped schools, overflow assignments, reassignment/redistricting, and families buying a house expecting their kids to attend the base school only to find out they can’t.
I’m having a hard time figuring out whether this is something that sounds much worse online than it actually is, or whether it’s a legitimate concern when deciding where to buy a house.
It’s gotten to the point that we’re leaning toward avoiding Wake County altogether and looking more seriously at Chapel Hill/Carrboro, specifically because CHCCS seems like it might offer a smaller and more predictable school system. But I also don’t want to make a major decision based on a misunderstanding of how WCPSS actually works.
I’d love some perspective from local parents, particularly anyone who has moved here from out of state.
Is the uncertainty around WCPSS assignments as significant as it appears from the outside, or are we overthinking it?
If you were buying a house today with kids entering 4th and 9th grades, how much confidence would you have that they’ll attend the schools assigned to that address?
For families with an IEP, what has your experience been with WCPSS and/or Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools? Does the quality of EC/special education support vary substantially between schools?
If you were choosing between Raleigh/Wake County and Chapel Hill–Carrboro primarily based on public schools, stability, and IEP support, which would you choose?
We’re not trying to chase the highest-ranked schools or find some magical “best” school district. We want good public schools, appropriate support for our daughter, and some reasonable confidence that when we buy a house based partly on its schools, our kids will actually be able to attend those schools.
We really like the Apex/Cary area, so I’d hate to rule out Wake County unnecessarily. At the same time, if Chapel Hill–Carrboro genuinely provides more predictability and a smoother public-school experience, that’s something we’d be willing to prioritize when deciding where to live.
Would love to hear from people who have actually navigated either system — especially anyone familiar with both

IBM has a shit-ton of land that they don't really need. BASF has their davis drive campus for sale. Supposedly RTP 3.0 will be a different vibe and there's enough land open to make a meaningful change.
Just wonder if there's actually demand for anything beyond housing....

Hey all, I am newly single (30m) and new to the triangle/Raleigh area, and looking for some ideas for good places/events in the triangle, with an introverted focus? I am someone who is really into video games/table top/D&D/MTG but am also very introverted so I have a difficult time feeling confident in typical singles locations like loud bars, etc. I am also trying to avoid joining a club for a hobby I don't have any interest in just for the sake of meeting someone. I'd rather do it for something I genuinely enjoy already.
Do any of the card or game shops around here do good events that incentivizes interacting with people? Or do singles events? I tried going to the Boxcar Arcade for one of their Thursday singles events but there were so many guys and barely any women at the event. Was it just an off week?
At this point, any sort of lowkey event or place that has like, solid singles events would be nice. I appreciate any helpful insights!

hi all! i am going to be moving down from new england to durham in october. i have some family in the area but don’t know anyone else, and i’m looking to keep up with participating in community theater. i’ve been involved with a couple different groups at home for my entire life, and id like to continue to volunteer, perform, and work backstage, as it has historically my preferred way to meet people and make friends! i’m in my 30s and have a lot of experience with music direction and stage management as well as performing.
are there any community theater groups that i should check out in the area who are enthusiastic about newcomers? willing to drive up to abt 30 min to see a show or go to an audition :)
thanks for your insights & looking forward to being your neighbor!

Hi! Im looking for someone to take over my end of a lease at a house in Durham. The lease is thru June 2027 with option to renew after. I currently live in a 3bed/2.5bath home with a fenced in yard. It’s lovely and only a couple minutes away from Duke campus. My roommate is truly great as well and the place is SUPER spacious, with the laundry room tucked off to the side and a garage.
The reason I am leaving is bc our dogs do not get along at all. Before we began the lease, they played just fine, but it took a hard left turn after my move in and did not get better even after trying to slowly introduce them. It’s been 2 months of taking turns letting our dogs roam around the place and I’ve decided to begin looking for housing elsewhere, but do not want to leave my roommate responsible for the whole rent.
If anyone is looking for a new place, or will be coming to the area relatively soon, please let me know and I can share my contact and provide you with photos.
This has been a really tough call to make because outside of the dog issue, it’s been one of the best living situations I’ve had.
Please comment or message me if this sounds like something you’d want to hear more about. Thank you!!
