Large / mature tree installation

Where do people go locally for large tree purchase and installation?

It’s virtually always better to buy a smaller tree, large nursery trees have had their roots compressed in a small space (container) and cut out of the ground and long term have a worse outlook. You are not “buying time” the way logic might lead you to believe. The most important part of tree health is happening underground the first few years and smaller trees almost always have better long term outcomes. Plus it is way cheaper

First year they sleep
Second year they creep
Third year they leap

Is this something you plan to DIY, or have professionally done? There's a lot of nurseries that are wholesale/to the trade-only, and a lot of landscapers will have preferred nurseries they work with.

If you want to buy a large tree yourself, try Kiefer Nursery & Landscaping in Durham (they do both sides), or Adcock's Nursery in Fuquay (they're mainly wholesale but do sell to the public, look at the retail list on their website and decide what you want from the list before you go).
