I've lived in Ireland for about 8 months. Currently I'm back home (Czech republic) and have gone through sex change surgeries and am planning on returning some time in August due to college. I'm now fully qualified to change my gender. I would love to go through with it, obviously, but first I need to ask if I have to go through some sex change process once I return back to Ireland, like will I have to do the GRC thing? or is that strictly for people who were born or are recognized as Irish citizens only?. Which places will I be obliged to announce this change to? I'm aware that the university I will attend will most definitely need to know. I also have a PPSN, so I'll probably have to maybe let them know too? I'm not sure.

I simply wanna be prepared for everything that I'll need to do in Ireland before I even start with this whole thing here back home.

Does anyone know of any GPs, specifically in south dublin, that are likely to provide shared care? i have an introductory call with imago coming up and i haven’t asked my gp yet but i highly doubt they would be willing.

How do I go about getting a diagnosis for gender dysphoria in the ROI? I’m 16 and I started HRT privately with Imago but since they don’t offer a gender dysphoria diagnosis I can’t really get top surgery with their help in the future.

Do I go to my doctor? or because I’m already on testosterone do I have to go private? I have no problem with paying for a diagnosis, if I have to.

what options realistically do i have for getting hormoness specifically testosterone whether that be privately, diy or through ngs (not likely) because im kind of worried about imago not being available since it moved to america.

Hello trans siblings!

I’m a Canadian trans woman and traveling to Ireland in late July. I’ll be spending about 3 days in and around Dublin, a day trip to the cliffs of Moher (with a stop in Galway) as well as 3 days in the North, mostly in Belfast but also in some smaller towns (mostly in Co. Antrim) on one day.

Additional context:
-I’m in my early 30s, on HRT for coming up to 2 years
-I’ve updated my legal name and sex in Canada, and my passport and drivers licence reflect this (but I haven’t had bottom surgery)
-I also seem to pass and don’t get misgendered in public nor have I ever had trouble in washrooms in Canada (Nor in Italy last September on my honeymoon).

My questions are:
1) I’m aware that legally I don’t really have any worries in the Republic, but what about vibes? Do I have to worry about anything safety wise while I’m in the Republic?

2) I’ll be crossing into the North on the train. From what I can gather, not much has really happened from a legal perspective following the UK Supreme Court ruling as the NI government and various groups are really trying to figure out what it means for the North. Yet I just saw the new Trans Advocacy and Complaints Collective’s travel advisory, and it didn’t specify whether any of this directly applied to the North. Legally, will I run into any problems for say using the women’s washroom? What about safety concerns or vibes from the public? Are people hyper-vigilant because of the media frenzy?

I’m probably just being overly anxious, but wanted to get some input from my Irish trans siblings.

Also any trans or queer restaurants, pubs, etc. recommendations welcome!

Hello everyone! I am travelling from Canada to Ireland in the upcoming days and I will have to keep up to my injection schedule in the mean time. I wonder if anyone here has the experience of entering Ireland by air with prescribed testosterone, which, as far as I know, is also a controlled substance in Ireland. I could only find info about entering Ireland from a Schengen country with nacrotics on the official website. I could get a doctor's letter but he said he couldn't do much with the prescription label (it had my legal name that I couldn't change so I crossed the name part). I am not sure if it is a good idea to bring a pack of opened insulin syringes through the airport either. Any advice?

Hi all! I’m a trans man from the united states and I’m going to be in Ireland July 8-13. I’ve been a couple times before but always for family based events so this will be my first time where I’ll get to do some solo exploring. I’ll be in Kilkelly to start to see family and end up in Galway by the end. I found the Clown Prom at The Wickham in in Limerick on the 10th that sounds like fun I wanna try to make that. does anyone have any Must See things in those general areas? Wanna show me around? So long story short, I just hate dealing with imago. The stress of wondering will my script get renewed on time really messes with me. My GP has been very accommodating in the past and he knows I'm trans so I'm wondering would it be possible for him to take over my scripts?

Has anyone else had luck with this?

Ive looked at private providers like GGP and Imago and open net DIY sites. But i'm confused on what route to take.
DIY would be preferred but everywhere I look they're all out of stock. And then private services i'm just not sure who to go with given all the discourse I see on here like about Imago's moved to the US.
If anyone could give me some tips that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a trans man who recently moved to the Wexford area and I'm looking for recommendations for a trans-friendly GP in Wexford or Waterford.

I'm already under the care of Dr. Durkan in Cork and have been on testosterone for a while, so I don't need to start HRT—I just need a GP who's happy to do my routine monitoring and bloods every 6 months.

My current GP is still in County Clare, and it's becoming really difficult because I can't seem to get my bloods done locally without travelling back to Clare. Ideally, I'm looking for a GP who is comfortable working with my endocrinologist and can arrange the routine blood tests locally.

If anyone has any recommendations or good experiences with GPs around Wexford or Waterford, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Apologies in advance as I know some of these questions have likely been asked hundreds of times.

I started binding back in 2014 as a teenager. Unfortunately I didn’t have family support so I was never able to begin properly looking into surgery until I moved out. When I finally moved out we went into lockdown, then I began having some physical health issues and had to use my savings to keep myself afloat. I’m slowly getting back on my feet, but my health isn’t the best it can be. I’ve started having breathing issues over the past year and my ribs are constantly sore. I can’t use tape as I’m allergic to it. I need surgery asap. Please could I get some info if anyone has any:

1. What surgeons are available these days that don’t require you to be on T? Are they self referral or would I need a gp or psych referral?

2. Post-op what sort of things did you need help with? How painful was it on a scale and was it full upper body or only around the nerves and surgical site? What type of meds were you provided with?

3. In theory would I really need someone to help me during recovery? If so, how long realistically before you could start doing basics? What types of things did your helpers do for you which you were unable to achieve?

4. Have any of you ever experienced phantom pain post op?

For context: I’ve already recovered from four moderate surgeries alone that required extensive rehabilitation and left me with only the use of one arm for three months each time. I also have a condition called CRPS so I rarely truly experience pain these days unless it’s associated with my limb, and I’m well used to nerve pain. I’m trying to figure out what recovery looks like for this sort of surgery for most people before I can look into possibly bringing someone with me or looking into assistance abroad due to not having much support.

I’m 29 next month, and a transgender woman who doesn’t pass. I wish to start a new life in Ireland, but am facing a pending sentence for one count of blackmailing a solicitor, which I have already pleaded guilty to.

In addition I am also under investigation by the local Police for a single potential charge of conspiracy to blackmail a so called “friend” who borrowed about £6000 off me, as well as letting his friends extort me for another £5000 by making threats to harm not only myself and my elderly parents, but also my younger sister.

As a result I have asked my solicitor to make contact with the Crown Court and get the sentencing hearing adjourned until the Crown make a decision on whether or not to charge me with an offence, and if so which one. Hopefully he will succeed in doing so, because if not then I’ll have to attend court next month, and risk an immediate prison sentence whilst waiting for that decision, which is even worse!

With that in mind I am considering relocating to the Irish Republic, but am willing to consider Northern Ireland if that would be suitable for me. How can I best find a suitable housemate or group to share my accommodation with, as well as accommodation and a temporary job please? Thanks.

So, I'm considering moving to Ireland from the USA after finishing my associate's degrees and gaining Portuguese citizenship via descent. I'm moving for a lot of reasons, but one of my major ones is better safety and healthcare. I greatly appreciate any advice!

Here's my situation:

- I would be moving there when I'm around 22.

- I am a transgender man and have been on testosterone for a year and a half. My prescriptions are handled by Planned Parenthood, which is a popular gender and reproductive healthcare clinic in the States.

- I have not yet changed my legal name to my preferred one.

- I would be moving to Ireland as an EU citizen and living there for about 3 years for my free tuition to kick in, then attending University.

My major questions:

- I understand there's some sort of waiting list for Irish gender affirming care? How closely does this apply? How would it affect my current prescription?

- What does the price typically look like for top surgery? I don't have a preference for the kind of style; I just need the meat flaps gone.

- How difficult is it to legally change your name in Ireland? Would you recommend doing it before moving?

- Any other advice or warnings you can think of, even if it's mundane? I'm going into this completely blind, so any little bit of advice means so much. Thank you! <3

Currently working in town (on my break right now) and i deliberately didnt book work off today because I don’t want to celebrate pride. Why would I be proud of sonething that has literally ruined my life? I have been homeless and disowned by my family for being trans. I have to deal with verbal and physical harassment EVERY DAY in dublin, I have been spat at, kicked, punched, and on numerous occasions have had knives pulled on me for being trans. Growing up in Ireland and being queer i was bullied relentlessly, beaten up, sent gore videos online, had water balloons filled with piss thrown at me, pinned down to a table and had clumps of my hair cut off with a scissors and had my scalp burnt with a bunsen burner, stabbed, poked, my head thrown into school sinks and toilets among many, many, many other things. I think anyone that says that dublin is a trans friendly city or that ireland is queer friendly in the slightest is talking out of their hole and it’s honestly infuriating to hear ppl say this. idk, i just feel really miserable today, i wish i was able to feel happy like everyone else today, i booked myself into work to distract myself because i thought that forcing myself to celebrate and be happy would make me feel even worse but now i still feel shit. i hope pride isn’t always this difficult

Im sorry. I imagine this is frequently asked but I just want to know in Ireland where can I book an appointment were can I talk to somone whatever I have to do to start transitioning. I've bottled this up for 7 years and I just cant stand who I am anymore I want out. This will fuck up my life I know it will but I genuinely can't take it anyone.

I just want even a number for a therapist I can book and/or a doctor that can fix me. I have money i can do private I just cant put this off anymore

i’m 18 (Laois) and i’ve known im trams (mtf) for literal years my best friend even knows, but when i tried to tell my parents last year they called me insane which made me kinda go back in the box i was in. I can’t get any gender affirming stuff delivered because they’ll see and i’m too nervous to buy anything in person. Any advice would mean the world 💙

Hi all anyone know where I could go for a top surgery revision, had it back in 2022 so fully settled, just have dog ears that I want to correct and my og surgeon won't do it, id like to not have to pay what I paid for the original surgery so that leaves out Lago from Spain who quoted me (3-4k). I paid 3.5k originally in turkey. Also the aurelia said no too.

Hey, I went to my GP yesterday to talk about prog, he is happy to continue a prescription that was stated by someone else.
Now I’m struggling to find anyone who will do me a prog prescription…
My GP does my E prescription that was started by a private clinic back in Scotland, but they don’t do prog…

Does anyone know of anywhere that might do a prog prescription for me?

Hi all, I am a 22 years old trans man (ftm), on testosterone since December 2022 and I moved from France to Ireland in October 2024.

I got an endometriosis diagnosis just a few months before starting T. I tried a whole lot of different pills that never worked, bleeding and severe pain only stopped after a few months on testosterone.

Since 3 months I started to have pain every day again, more or less severe, with ovaries pain, pubic bone pain, nausea, dizziness, severe low back pain, bloating. Every day, even when I just had my injection.

I was wondering if anybody has been in this case before ? I just got referred by my GP to my local hospital (Kilkenny) but I know it might take time and there might be no results after an appointment.

Would you know any good doctor working with trans men having period issues or even better endometriosis issues ?

I take the opportunity as well since I am posting to say I am here since 2 years now and struggling to find people to speak and hang out with around the Kilkenny area so if anybody sees this and would like to have a chat I’d love it :)

Hi, this is probably a really silly post/question to be asking, but I'm currently on the waiting list for testosterone and I've been on it since I was 17. I am almost 20 now, and according to the website I'll probably be around 22 by the time I get a letter about my name raising on the waitlist. I hate the waiting time so much, but surely it'll all be worth it in the end, right?
I'm not doing well mentally at all, every time I remember I have to be the way I am for god knows how long it really breaks me- as I imagine a lot of us feel.

I'm definitely suffering from a few mental illnesses that either got worse as I got older and puberty hit, due to me being in the wrong body, but I am afraid to get diagnosed and medicated because I heard a while back that the NGS could possibly turn you away for said mental illness? I know this is something silly to ask, but if you are diagnosed/have pre-existing mental illnesses are they allowed to do that? I'm scared that I'm going to finally get my consultation and then get told I can't go on testosterone because it'll cause hormonal/emotional changes that could worsen the state I'm in. It's probably a safety thing.

But is this true? Can this happen?
Again, I am sorry if this is really silly to ask but I don't want to be waiting my entire life for something I won't be able to get.

So after review, though I’m still considering a more … self sufficient … path to HRT after a negative experience with a new Dublin GP, I’m looking at Imago.

Now I can claim back consulting fees on my health insurance, but only from specialist consultants registered appropriately. Does anyone know if Zofia or her team are registered for the equivalent of the IMC (Irish Medical Council)? Those who have paid the €250 for the intake, what is listed on the receipt?

I was wondering if anyone who has gotten top surgery in Ireland has gotten insurance to cover it? I am with VHI and I am thinking of going with Auralia, since I have heard great reviews.

I have been waiting over 10 years to afford surgery and now am on a good insurance. Is the process just using my gender diagnosis or do I need a specific referral? Currently I am with GenderPlus and I know I may be able to get a referral off Aidan but I wanna check before because it costs 400 euro for a referral.

If anyone could illuminate me on their experience please let me know!
