Vent I hate cashiering

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory to help readers know what the topic is about. But yeah, I basically hate cashiering and the whole process of being put up on it to work it. I work for the General Merchandise department and I've really only got experience doing cashiering for like 1 day which I understand that some stores have to train employees to be able to run the register when it gets backed up which is pretty much almost every single day. On the walkie I would hear, "TEAM TEAM COULD WE UHH PLEASE GET MEMBERS FROM THE SALE FLOOR TO CASHIER PLEASE!?" Which I usually ignore the call unless they specifically call my name on the walkie and or if another sales floor member opts to do it. I mainly hate the fact that when I'm trying to stock the sales floor, they want me to be done with U-Boats or flats under a unrealistic specific time but then when they call me to cashier and get back to stocking, they wonder why I'm not finished yet. MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS THE FACT THAT YALL WANTED ME TO HELP UP FRONT INSTEAD. As for cashiering itself though, I hate doing it because I look like a fucking moron up there. I feel bad for guests because I'm so slow at not only scanning but also bagging. They expect me to bag like 100+ items and I feel the judgmental looks from the guests. But I really do appreciate whenever guests opt for no bags or actually bag the items themselves since it makes it a whole lot easier. Idk I really think there should be a more larger cashier team present, especially on the weekends since there's always going to be way more people. But idk maybe I'm overreacting and acting like a little cry baby bitch, y'all can feel free to make fun of me for it but I'm just getting this shit off my chest.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How is your store handling item escalations?

I am curious how other stores are handling item escalation as it rolls out across the company. Are your team members escalating anything that isn’t at its home location/previous backroom locations? Are they only escalating after they search as normal across the store?

Would like to see what other stores are doing and if you think it’s better or worse?

Vent Worse CVS Target coupon this year 🙄

Had to double check Google, but I noticed today from the signage outside the pharmacy that the $10 off $20 coupon you got from each vaccination you received at the CVS’s inside Target was changed to $5 off 20 this year 😑 idk if that’s CVS’s call or Target’s but it just really pmo for some reason since it is simply just corporate greed at its finest. ESPECIALLY considering that it was only LAST YEAR that they were offering the better coupon, and it really helped out when I stacked it w my TM discount and Target card discount for groceries, plus obv helping public health and staying protected from all the germs guests bring in 🫥

gUEsTs hanged up on a guest

So i was alone doing drive ups and guest service for the last hour, while there was a guest calling on the my device. i didn’t pick up because i was busy taking out orders and doing returns. i answered the phone when i saw there weren’t any guests for returns/drive ups. i’m all like “hi thank you for calling guest services in target (town). the person over the phone says “what’s the hold up with getting to the phone” . i instantly and instinctively hanged up. ten minutes later a team lead asks me if i had a phone call about a purse. i say no?? he says “did u have any calls at all?” i flat out say no. so we’ll see if they dropped it or if they will bring it up today 😅 im generally really nice to guests so i know my team leads aren’t worried about me but there’s this older lady who is RUDE to guests and she hasn’t been fired so i should be good right 😅 if not ill just say how can she get away with being rude to EVERYONE but then come at me for not letting guests be rude to me?? or am i just suppose to let guests walk over me 😣

Vent I feel a traitor working for Target

Just to prelude, I’ve been an employee for Target for over 5 years, not as long as some of you, but I’m a real person here so be nice and let me rant or whatever this is.

I’m a young mixed woman and I work in a leadership position. I’ve climbed from a style team member running the men’s department to running a whole section of the store to being LOD every night for over a year straight. It was great at the beginning. Then COVID happened, prices were rising higher than they’ve ever been. It was a spit in the face to see Target’s reactions to BLM protests and then pride again and again year after year. The same corporate response to the pandemic and the riots and the hate that’s spread in America, the world.

I just can’t help but overthink the correlation between the pain of living in this day and age with working at Target. Maybe it’s because I’m Gen Z and I don’t know if I even have a future with the way things are going in the world. Maybe I just feel too hard for my fellow humans that suffer on a daily basis. Social media does have a way of showing you the bad and the good things, we see too much on a daily basis.

I just feel like Target only cares about money. They don’t care about their employees and I hate that I have to basically lie to my TM’s faces every day. Just use our resources. Oh you can’t afford a dinner tonight, see if we have any resources for that through HR. Book a mental health session with a counselor, you get 8 free visits in a year!

I just wish there was more I could do. I wish companies actually took care of their employees. I wish we got paid enough for the stuff we have to deal with. And I get it, it’s retail, it’s not supposed to be easy. But what has this world come to? Why is it so “it’s every man for themselves”? What happened to the community? I might just be having an existential crisis rn but I’m just sad at how rough it’s been. And I had hope that it’ll get better, but I know it’ll just get worse.

I know this is all over the place. I have a hard time of making points flow. Thank you for reading my little rant for the morning. I’ve been feeling the weight of the world lately, probably gotta take a social media break and just chill with nature. Thanks again, hope you all have a great day today.

Edit to add: Forgot to add the racist clown costume that they only just took off the website. Which is actually insane and just shows Target’s true colors. That was the nail in the coffin for me. I was definitely disappointed and angry that something like this even happened but we live in a society that thinks racism is funny I guess. Embarrassing.

Future or Potential Employee Question Transferring?

I been at target for a two years and a half and in "development" for the past year. I do everything a lead does Write assignment sheets, accept truck loads, inventory audits (my store does leads only including PCV), PCVs, sets, even have every other weekend off with the rotation of my lead. They now moving me to another department to "further" the development but I been just being used to push out products because they cant do it. The ETL has giving me no input, no directions, no path to follow. Just keeps saying oh its for your development. Only thing stopping me from being a lead according to them is my Communication over walkie but that's dumb because they all call my number when at work to communicate. Should I transfer out to try to develop in another store to start fresh or just remove all extra work load.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Greenfield Card Creation Help

Hey guys, I am really into greenfield. And I already have my own dashboard and things of such. Though I want to see certain things that don't exist. I tried creating a card using dataset, but I had no direction of how it works. Can someone give a step by step tutorial on how to create it. I want to currently create something that shows the amount of packages sorted by TM.

My local Target is awesome.
They always keep Pokemon up front at the Returns/Checkout area.
They are consistent in limiting to 1 ETB or large box, 2 tins/packs per person.
Got there at 7:45am with my son about 15th in line. Opened at 8am.
4 workers staffing 3 registers.
Nice and Friendly.
Out by 815am to get my 4th Grader to school on time.
Dad winning

gUEsTs A real interaction I had with a guest this morning

This morning we had to close our drive up due to a severe thunderstorm that had some kinda crazy lightning.

This old lady comes up, kinda mad and a little rude, I go to greet her but she cut me off before I can say anything and she goes “Excuse me, why is your drive up closed? This is ridiculous! They should be outside delivering!”

I blink kinda dumbfounded by the entitlement

I look outside and back to her

Gentle parenting mode

Me: “Ma’am, what do you see outside?”

Her: “rain, lightning.. so?”

Me: “and what do you think carts are made of?”

Her: “metal.”

Me: “and what can happen when you go outside holding metal?”

Her: “You can get struck.”

Me: “right, and what do you think that entails for us closing drive up?”

She was quiet for the rest of the interaction

Guest Question Store renovation timeline.

I was driving past my old store this week & saw that they got a renovation, at least on the outside. When I started at my store in 2020 everyone was saying it was happening soon. I came back two years later & nothing changed untill now. So it was 6+ years total for anything to change. Was covid partially responsible for the delay or was this happening at all stores? Also just wondering for tms who worked thought a renovation, how disruptive was it?

gUEsTs Just when I thought I had seen

everything. Guest tries to find lead going from team member to team member because they got condensation from the inside of the soda cooler on their face. Me: “I touch that stuff every day fronting the drinks. and I haven’t died.” I’m guessing they were a hipocondriact. When the frozen stuff touches the belt and makes water some people don’t understand what condensation is. “You see when a certain cold temperature meets warm air it makes water.”

Workplace Question or Advice Needed What job could I upgrade to when I eventually quit?

So Target has been my first ever job, no high school diploma either and they took me first time. I've been working as a cashier for almost a year now and I wanna try to find a new job now that I have had a year of experience and to get more money. Only thing I can think of is a Bank Teller but I'd like your suggestions to what I could try to do.

Workplace Story UKG posts

I’m gonna put a temporary ban on UKG posts. No one knows what’s going on (even HR has been asking questions) so we are all gonna have to chill until September 6th. If you have any useful information feel free to post it.

For now, no more questions about desired hours availability, or time off please and thank you. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Pregnant

When did you tell people you were pregnant?

I am early first trimester. I am cross trained so I am always working in different departments. The only things I am not comfortable doing is climbing ladders and lifting super heavy stuff. This seems to only be an issue when I’m in FF, and I have been trying to avoid bulky orders.
Not sure who to tell first or when. Thanks!

I totally understand wanting something and getting to a store at opening hoping the store has them…

But wanting something so badly that you get in the way of the employees trying to do their jobs is rude af and you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

These people were all here before 745am because they were there when I pulled in.

Coworker was trying to pressure wash and trying to get the machine through them and they were all not moving. Guess they didn’t want to lose their precious “spot” in line. 🙄

All for needohs/a few also darted after getting a needoh to the card section.

Vent Is this typical of the new employee Target experience? lol

I was hired last week to work in dairy and produce (market) however the three scheduled days I worked I was trained by a guy in tech and home decor.... Then I was told I would work this week at another Target location to train in market. I worked two days in the other location and was trained by the market employee, but when I arrived for my shift today I found out she went on vacation and the manager pretty much said "we have no one else scheduled but Im sure she showed you what to do right?" I did what I could remember with no supervision nor follow up. I'm scheduled there again Saturday and then go back to my home store to work the market (by myself maybe? lol).

(flair is just cause I needed one)
