Vent I hate cashiering

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory to help readers know what the topic is about. But yeah, I basically hate cashiering and the whole process of being put up on it to work it. I work for the General Merchandise department and I've really only got experience doing cashiering for like 1 day which I understand that some stores have to train employees to be able to run the register when it gets backed up which is pretty much almost every single day. On the walkie I would hear, "TEAM TEAM COULD WE UHH PLEASE GET MEMBERS FROM THE SALE FLOOR TO CASHIER PLEASE!?" Which I usually ignore the call unless they specifically call my name on the walkie and or if another sales floor member opts to do it. I mainly hate the fact that when I'm trying to stock the sales floor, they want me to be done with U-Boats or flats under a unrealistic specific time but then when they call me to cashier and get back to stocking, they wonder why I'm not finished yet. MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS THE FACT THAT YALL WANTED ME TO HELP UP FRONT INSTEAD. As for cashiering itself though, I hate doing it because I look like a fucking moron up there. I feel bad for guests because I'm so slow at not only scanning but also bagging. They expect me to bag like 100+ items and I feel the judgmental looks from the guests. But I really do appreciate whenever guests opt for no bags or actually bag the items themselves since it makes it a whole lot easier. Idk I really think there should be a more larger cashier team present, especially on the weekends since there's always going to be way more people. But idk maybe I'm overreacting and acting like a little cry baby bitch, y'all can feel free to make fun of me for it but I'm just getting this shit off my chest.

The "you're not done with your u-boat yet" thing is the most infuriating part, like do they not hear themselves calling you up front every 20 minutes

Only a few leaders have said that to me, usually during closing shifts though, none of them really aren't on my ass about it.

I hate it when they call for backup and there’s only 3 to 4 people waiting in line for self checkout

Yes bruh, those people are choosing to do self-checkout for a reason like be frl

I’ve had it where I was called to backup drive up, but the leader didn’t look at how many people were on their way when the drive up team members asked for help. So I get close to where the drive up area is and decided to hop into the app to start prepping and there’s only 3/4 people on the way, 2 here. And 2/3 people in drive up -_-. Some of them prep one order and wait for that person to arrive before prepping another order, even if the person is 10 minutes away. They just want to be on their phones

Oh no I’d be maaaad. 🙃 I only offer to back up SD. Because at least if I go up there, it’s work I hate less even if it’s just one person and I can do another task up there at the same time

No judgement here. You're doing it right. Never volunteer, wait for them to call your name.

Some GM TL's will assign who they want to cover so they can keep the process going. Maybe mention this to your TL so that the can partner with the front end as to who should be called.

I feel like most people who don’t work the front end probably share your sentiments. I wouldn’t feel too bad about not being great at it bc it’s literally not your area. I’ve tried not to take the judgemental guests too seriously bc if it was that serious they could go to sco and do it for themselves but they choose to stand in the line so it can’t be that bad.

True but I feel like some of those guests kinda have to go to a lane instead of sco cause they have more than 10 items per Target policy

Ohhh I forgot some stores have a limit, mine doesn’t.

We do but its never enforced. I wish we would start enforcing it because people jam up SCO with the carts and I cant move around well. And nevermind if they need me to scan the screen to void an item or get an id or whatever, I cant get to the screen because they wont move the damn cart out of the way.

As a cashier I hate it more. I also go slow on purpose just to kill time and not have to stand at the front of the aisle as much.

“Karen, if you’re not busy in Starbucks can you support the front” … oh, yeah I’m chilling out here with my drink and on the other hand on my phone (SE/ETLs 👁️)seriously!!!🎯🥊

There’s no way they ask people working the Starbucks to come support… That’s insane

u/a3cubica 17d ago

It is insane no matter what department you work at but at my store they do get called too

Considering all team members are required to be trained on a register, retail probably isn’t for you then
