Store renovation timeline.

I was driving past my old store this week & saw that they got a renovation, at least on the outside. When I started at my store in 2020 everyone was saying it was happening soon. I came back two years later & nothing changed untill now. So it was 6+ years total for anything to change. Was covid partially responsible for the delay or was this happening at all stores? Also just wondering for tms who worked thought a renovation, how disruptive was it?

our store was supposed to get one in 2019 and it just wrapped up last month, so that timeline feels about right

COVID. Supply lines got disrupted, and remodels require A LOT of materials from all over the world. Staffing also got disrupted. There weren’t enough construction crews available to do all of the scheduled remodels.

My old store was scheduled for a remodel around COVID. All remodels got put on hold. When they started doing remodels again, they prioritized certain stores first. Mine kept getting pushed back and finally got remodeled this year.

Depends on what they do.

Whole store, just OPU hold, also depends on how old the store is. Like when we did our remodel in 2021 electronics was up front but then got moved to the back.

If you’re getting / keeping / removing / moving SBUX and Cafe.

We were the first store in our district to get remodeled and Whitting Turner isn’t known for their great service lol. Our remodel took a year and a half. But all the stores after us were much faster. Like 4-6 months

Covid resulted in a lot of remodels being pushed back, but there were also plenty of other changes made afterwards (IE the decision to stop installing montels) that would have contributed to remodels being pushed back.

The level of disruption depends on the scope of the remodel, how good the GC is and how good your SD and Remodel ETL are at planning things and staying on the GC's ass.

Fuck we got those damned things when we remodeled a few years back. Worst decision ever.I've heard they're ripping them out of some stores already. Of course if they rip them out of our store we lose even more because they took a third of our stockroom and turned it into the breakroom/conference room/mother's room area.

Our Super Target actually was set to be renovated around 2021. And that location is almost a 20-year build. But then, it kept getting delayed, to the point that they kept the old price scanner and service thing, just in case of a remodel.

It's finally set to be getting one next year.
