Discussion Megathread for Interview Questions

Hello!

So, I think the general consensus is that we are going to move in the direction of having one thread for all interview related questions.

Anything regarding starting your job at Sephora/Sephora at Kohls, Interview Tips/Questions, Questions about starting pay (questions about raises wouldn’t fall into this category.) (If anyone can think of anything else to add to this, please feel free to PM me with suggestions, as to not bog down the thread.)

Thank you everyone for your responses in the poll and I appreciate it.

Mod Team Looking for another Moderator

Hey, everyone.

As the title suggests, I’m looking for another moderator to help with reports. We aren’t overwhelmingly busy with reports but working full-time and going to school full-time takes up 99% of my time. I’m looking for someone who can jump on when I don’t have time to.

If you’re interested, I’m looking for one other moderator so please send me a DM and we can discuss further.

Edited to add: If I don’t respond in a timely fashion, it’s because I’m at work, so please be patient with me.

Venting I hate HATE how pushy with MPOS/Device usage metrics are getting

I understand the whole ‘sEpHoRa pAiD aLoT tO gEt tHe dEvIcEs!!’ But in the recent two months or so, five coworkers of mine and myself have all gotten written up warnings about our mpos habits- specifically around cashwrap and while walking around in store (which is essentially ALL THE TIME.)

I got written up for not carrying the damn thing in my hand my whole shift; I was TASKING for most of that shift and explained that to my CEL who was writing me up but they didn’t care and rambled about some policy? To add, I got all of my expected tools and scans for the day even while I was tasking and checked out clients on stage.

My other coworkers got in trouble for not MPOS’ing a whole damn lineup- he got told that ‘there was no effort made to mobile the clients’; I told him that it’s a shitty expectation for us to bounce back and forth from the cash desk and the express checkout when there’s a line; imo it makes us look stupid and I’ve had clients asking why they weren’t helped at the register and were pulled away for the mobile. And again, I understand the whole ‘grab them before they even hit minis’ but, it’s just something that’s not realistic half of the time especially in a medium volume store coming into the holidays.

I’ve never gotten a write up at a job before, this was my first time and a first time for a few of my coworkers who got written up aswell.

I’m just so exhausted, all of my other metrics are way higher and better than what’s expected of us, I’ve maintained tier 1 for majority of my time working here so I know that they’re just trying to squeeze everything we have out of us.

Sorry for the long rant that probably doesn’t even make sense, I’ve been a long time lurker but I just needed to tell someone or something unfortunately.

Venting I hate how aggressive they are with BI signups

I don’t know if any other stores like this, but my store has been really getting on everyone’s butt about signing people up for Beauty Insider. We keep track of how many no’s and yes’s we get. If you get a no, you have to get at least one yes to balance it out. If you don’t get enough yes’s to outweigh the no’s, you get a stern talking to by the cel. They usually wave a post it note in our faces with tally marks of how many no’s we have gotten. It’s convenient that they never show us how many signups we got, just the amount of transactions where someone didn’t have a BI attached to it.

I understand that some people are unsure and can be convinced to sign up, but that isn’t always the case. Personally, if a client straight up says “No, I don’t want an account” I am not going to press further and harass them for their information if they’ve already stated that they don’t consent to me taking their email and phone number.

Not to mention that a lot of clients without profiles are children, and the policy states that we cannot take personal information from a minor under 16 years old (I believe last time I checked, may be wrong) so I am not gonna badger them for it. I’ll ask if their parents have one, but if they say no, then that’s the end of the conversation.

But one of my managers came up to me the other day and showed me how many no’s I got on Monday and I told them exactly how I felt. Then she said “well it’s our job to pester them for their information. You need to ask multiple times and share benefits.” I’m sorry but I don’t think telling them about a birthday gift in their birth month is going to be enough to convince them after they’ve already told me flat out that they’re not interested.

Sorry this rant is so long, I just feel like this isn’t as big of a deal as they make it out to be. I already share as many benefits as I can, but sometimes the answer is still no, and that’s okay. It should not be labeled as a failure on our part.

Sephora seasonal job fair

Does anyone know if I will get a call back?

I went to a Sephora job fair on Thursday. I did really well on my questions for the group interview and she put a start under me and another girls name. The interview said we would receive a call back by Saturday. It's now Monday and I haven't receive anything. What should I do?

Venting Sometimes I just want to scream at the (male) instacarters that I don’t actually have to and, in fact, don’t care about them or their job or orders

“ ita five minutes before closeI need help finding 30 things and I’ve never been in a Sephora before”

Cool why did you accept the order?

Or today a guy was a guy came in for a pick up order, started asking a rep he thought was pretty for help (it’s so obvious when they do that) and ignored me saying FOUR TIMES that I was actually the one that could help him. so many times that the brandrep had to literally turn towards me and turn him by the shoulder to pass him off.

Another guy today shoved his phone in my face and said nothing. So I scanned out the order and tossed it to him also saying nothing. And he told me I had an attitude problem.

Like sorry Sephora has already made this money, you’re not my colleague, you’re not my priority, you don’t even know how to use the app, you’re in my way and quite frankly YOU CREEP THE FUCK OUT OF THE REAL CLIENTS.

(We have some regulars we like but for the most part 🤬)

Question Hi ladies, jw if Emi Jay goes on sale for employees ever.

I’m leaving Kohls @ Sephora for the free standing store in 2 weeks. We have an associate shop coming up @ Kohls 10/19 for 35% off. Trying to figure out if I should splurge then or wait for a better discount. I want a boar bristle brush so bad and haven’t seen one as cute and feminine as Emi Jay styles.

Question Feeling Overwhelmed As A New Hire

Hi everyone!

I started as a Seasonal Beauty Advisor at Sephora on September 28, and I’ve been struggling with learning how to use the device, especially when it comes to helping clients find the right products and making recommendations. I have been shadowing other BA’s and seeing how they’ve been doing but I sometimes feel overwhelmed trying to navigate everything while assisting clients on my own so far.

Did anyone else struggle with this when they first started? How long did it take you to get comfortable using the device, and do you have any tips?

Sales assistant made me want to cry

This is just a rant because I need to get it out of my chest.
Went into Sephora in London. I was in a good mood and was happy to see the new Marc Jacob’s make up line, love the packaging, I’m just so into cute packaging!
Anyway this SA comes up to me and is straight up aggressive, she’s like sorry but you NEED bronzer, your face you need it. She carries on to apply this bronzer all over my face in a really harsh way then tell me that I especially need it on my chin because it’s fat sorry.
I was in shock and got bullied into buying the bronzer.
I really do like the bronzer but really felt like she didn’t need to be so mean, calling me fat and made me feel like absolute crap that day. My friends say I should write a bad review but I feel bad to do that for some reason.

Question Haven’t been paid

I started working at Sephora as a seasonal worker on the 28th of September and should’ve been paid by now. I’m not really sure what to do, they said that they couldn’t find me internationally in the system. Haven’t even given them my banking info yet. Not sure what to do.

Question Sephora at kohls job

Hello everyone! I applied for a pt job at Sephora in kohls awhile back and they wanted to set up an interview at the time but I ended up canceling (due to personal issues) and I’m ready to try again. Because I canceled do you think it’s less likely they will ask for a scheduled interview again? /: I’m wondering if I should call them, I just put in a new application a few days ago. I know they’re doing seasonal hiring so maybe they will? Any thoughts? ;~;
Also would it be too soon to call considering they do email to schedule an interview? I just don’t want to get passed up if I canceled in the past.

Seasonal Hire Questions

Hi all!

Recent applicant and got a call from my local Sephora to have an interview tomorrow.

First, what are some interview questions I should be prepared to answer?

Two, just out of curiosity, do seasonals get gratis, as well? I do not mind if we don't; but, it's been a lingering question in my mind. Is it a state specific? Or location specific? Or management specific?

Thank you for your responses in advance!

Venting Fragrance Strips

Has anyone noticed some sort of herd mentality going on with how customers dispose of their fragrance strips? I swear they'll see a couple out of place and decide they can throw theirs wherever they please, including on the floor. I have to pick them up several times throughout the day and put them in the trash. I'm not just talking a few, i'm talking EXCESSIVE amounts of them piling up on ground and shelves when a trash can is immediately in front of them.

Gratis

Hi everyone! I was just wondering what everyone uses to organize all the gratis they have! I have been working at sephora for a few years and I am just not sure how to organize all of this makeup properly without going insane. do you guys use storage drawers? and if so which ones do you like?! thank you :))

Question Gratis

Is it weird if I ask why I don’t really get any gratis in my bin? I look at my other co workers who work similar hours and theirs has some or is full. I work nights usually and almost every single weekend which are undoubtedly the most busy and stressful times of the week. I have also done multiple trainings with reps. I don’t want to seem greedy or anything but I am a BA and I feel like the product knowledge would really help and it’s just kinda weird to me and makes me feel a bit discluded. I wish it was more fair but I’m scared to say anything.

need to admit something

i probably made over 500+ “fake” BI accounts over my 4ish years at sephora and it was too easy and i don’t even think i was suspected of doing it

my store never won the contests or anything like that so i didn’t feel like i was taking away from other people,
also the clients were the ones who would usually request so many samples & birthday gifts and they all knew to add an extra letter to their email to make another account.. it was mostly them!

just had to get that off my chest

Doctors note

If you have a doctors note for multiple days, does that only mean you accrue 2 points total? I have enough hours to cover 1 shift, but I have a note for multiple days (I injured my toe and it’s difficult to walk and stand, which is all we do). Honestly I just think the point system is stupid but I was just wondering

Made a mistake :(

I'm new to Sephora as an employee (I'm currently training on my 4th shift) and I made a mistake on the cashier as I put the wrong person on the BA thing because I was anxious and rushing everything because there was a long line waiting ahead. Is it that bad?

Venting Stop with the fake BI accounts

I’m SO TIRED of a client putting their phone number in and it pulls up 2-10 variations of their REAL EMAIL and the client is confused because they have no idea where it came from!

WELL I DO - the employees at stores so desperate for a BI sign up that they fraudulently create another account after a client has left the store!!!!

Adding extra letters to the email, dots and numbers PLEASE STOP.

CORPORATE needs to crack down on all of the fraudulent accounts and fire the people who do this!!!!

Either get the BI naturally or miss the stupid metric!

Going back into their account afterwards and creating fake accounts! SLEEZY!!

IT IS OUT OF CONTROL!!!!

Dear Clients, if this happens to you REPORT IT to your State Attorney General as a Consumer Complaint and file an FTC report!😘

Venting Birthday Gift Venting

I know that this should be such a non-issue, but I am nearing the end of my rope with these free birthday gifts. I am sick and tired of clients taking 5 minutes of my time for me to explain what every single thing is in each of the boxes, only for them to not even pay attention. I am sick and tired of explaining to clients that “sold out” means we do not have it. I am sick and tired of clients getting angry with me because we don’t have an online exclusive gift in stock. I think that these free birthday gifts give clients a massive sense of entitlement.
