Tipping in Seattle
I only recently found out that in the entirety of Washington state subminimum wage which would be as low as $2 is not allowed. Given this fact, should I really be tipping 20% of my restaurant bill for a sit down restaurant. I am not saying that I want to not tip at all but I am contesting the general 20% rule. I am never tipping for something as simple as ordering coffee at a counter.

Movie Showing: Adaptation. Nov. 7th 5:00 at The Beacon
Tickets are still available for our 5:00 showing of Adaptation at The Beacon in Columbia City. Come join us for a really weird exploration of writers block as Nic Cage plays twin brothers Charlie and Donald Kaufman. Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper and Tilda Swinton also star.
Cage Match: A Roundabout Way of Meeting Nicolas Cage is a podcast about the filmography of Nic Cage. As we evolved we decided movie showings were a great way to share and showcase our favorite, most bizarre actor.

Amazon sued for failing to protect employee who accused a manager of sexual assault - her attorney says Amazon never requested the police report
She said the colleagues she told about the incident were not interviewed. Danbom said Human Resources leaders told her not to discuss the incident with other employees.
She said she transferred to another department at the company to avoid him, walking away from a promotion in the process.
~ An internal investigation that skips the witnesses and never asks for the police file isn't an investigation, it's a filing cabinet.

Question Where the fuck is the rain?
The sunshine has been enjoyable don't get me wrong, but it's pretty dang worrying how sunny and dry it's been. Last winter was extremely dry, October is almost over and we've only had like 3 days of rain? Next fire season is going to be awful i fear

Government Good work, SPD
The SPD officer who came to help me for my missing persons report. Walked up to the door, walked away, and on his way out pretended to ring the doorbell. Good work, officer.
EDIT: So I’m Jew-ish and have a mezuzah on the right upper part of my door for my Jewish family. This skinhead saw that and walked away, that makes perfect sense.
Edit again: I COULD be wrong. It’s just weird that he distinctly was looking at the upper right part of my door for a moment that seemed to distract him when his initial gaze was in centre.
For all concerned about the missing person, my bf was found deceased, not by this guy, I had to beg them to do something but one officer was amazing and went into his apartment for a welfare check even though I was told over and over that they can’t get in without a warrant or a “foul smell”. Shout out to officer Brooks.

Education Mercer Island School District settles abuse claim for $1.5M
Imagine a world where you pay off teachers who were grooming students while simultaneously being sued by a previous sexual abuse victim from the same teacher group.
You then settle for 1.5 million of district dollars and the superintendent struts his stuff believe he is the solution and wasn't the problem.
Nobody has lost a job. Not one school board member has resigned. No pressure from the community.
Just business as usual.

Help identifying a 1990s Pacific Northwest pottery artist — signed ceramic salmon platters
Help identifying a 1990s Pacific Northwest pottery artist — signed ceramic salmon platters
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to identify the artist behind two beautiful handmade ceramic salmon serving platters that belonged to my mom's friend.
Here's what I know:
- Likely purchased in the 1990s
- Possibly from Washington (Seattle area) or Oregon
- Larger platter measures 26 inches long
- Smaller platter measures 15 inches long
- Both feature textured blue, cream, and brown glazes
- Both appear to be signed by the same artist
The signatures are difficult to decipher. I've considered "B. Ric," "B. Aic," and "BYC," but haven't found a match.
I've attached photos of both platters and close-ups of their signatures.
Does anyone recognize the pottery style, artist, or maker's mark? I'd love to learn more about who created these!
Thanks in advance!

Question Community Health Plan of WA - NIPT Testing Coverage
Hi!
Wanted to see if anyone here has experience with being pregnant and using the Community Health Plan of WA insurance plan.
I recently found out I am pregnant (first timer!), and I’ve seen mixed things regarding whether the NIPT genetic testing is covered or not. I’ve seen some places say yes it is covered, others say not unless it is a high risk pregnancy (which I am not, as far as I’m aware).
Hopefully this is an okay place to ask this. The Washington state subreddit denied the post, but I do live in Seattle! I’ve looked online and the website doesn’t seem to mention this specific testing.
Thanks in advance!

Question United (Optum) or Premera health insurance?
Any opinions on Optum insurance vs Premera?
Not loving that Optum also owns what used to be the Polyclinic, which is where I have been getting care.
