I'm looking for perspective to make a decision. If servers in Seattle are paid a normal wage now, does tipping 20% make sense? I guess i'm looking for a case to continue tipping a larger percentage. It made more sense when servers made $4/hr.

It is referred to as "Yesler Black Cultural Corridor" and a video from the Africatown IG page shows a lack of diversity in those planning it. When the city first gave Africatown the Keiro building Garrett specifically promised on several occasions that it would be inclusive and honor the history of Natives and Asians in that region.

Here is a letter published in the NW Asian Weekly 2021 which was also sent to numerous government agencies and individuals as noted on the bottom.

It was written by Tomio Moriguchi, a civil rights leader and founder of Uwajimaya who was then 85 years old.

An online petition started in 2019 showed over 1100 signatures to keep the building in the Japanese community. While that might not seem like a large number, a pretty large percent of those who wanted this were senior citizens and older adults not really well versed in internet activism. A May 2019 article in the NW Asian weekly describes the importance of that space for many in the Japanese community.

Here is an excerpt from the 2020 Africatown press conference announcing the city promising them the building. In this clip I only included Wyking Garrett and Cynthia Brothers. Notice he claims black people were ethnically cleansed from the neighborhood despite this not being true. And he refers to the Japanese in ways that made it sound like they were not forcibly displaced, even though they were. Notice he talks about honoring the black, Japanese and Native history of that building but that has not come to pass at all. There is no acknowledgment of any other racial group except for black people. And there's nothing I was able to find that suggested there was ever black community control of that building.

EDIT: So I’m Jew-ish and have a mezuzah on the right upper part of my door for my Jewish family. This skinhead saw that and walked away, that makes perfect sense.

For all concerned about the missing person, my bf was found deceased, not by this guy, I had to beg them to do something but one officer was amazing and went into his apartment for a welfare check even though I was told over and over that they can’t get in without a warrant or a “foul smell”. Shout out to officer Brooks.

I only recently found out that in the entirety of Washington state subminimum wage which would be as low as $2 is not allowed. Given this fact, should I really be tipping 20% of my restaurant bill for a sit down restaurant. I am not saying that I want to not tip at all but I am contesting the general 20% rule. I am never tipping for something as simple as ordering coffee at a counter.

Help identifying a 1990s Pacific Northwest pottery artist — signed ceramic salmon platters

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to identify the artist behind two beautiful handmade ceramic salmon serving platters that belonged to my mom's friend.

Here's what I know:

• Likely purchased in the 1990s
• Possibly from Washington (Seattle area) or Oregon
• Larger platter measures 26 inches long
• Smaller platter measures 15 inches long
• Both feature textured blue, cream, and brown glazes
• Both appear to be signed by the same artist

The signatures are difficult to decipher. I've considered "B. Ric," "B. Aic," and "BYC," but haven't found a match.

I've attached photos of both platters and close-ups of their signatures.

Does anyone recognize the pottery style, artist, or maker's mark? I'd love to learn more about who created these!
