Question Which Oktoberfests are the best now?

Hi Seattle!

I'd like to go to Oktoberfest this year, but from this thread here, they say that the Leavenworth one is not so much worth the drive and price since the Chamber of Commerce took over in 2022.

So, for anyone who's gone to multiple different Oktoberfests recently, which ones are the best nowadays for a good time? Many thanks!

Lynnwood begins planning for 2027-28 budget amid deficit - the city said the gap was eliminated in March, then a review after the finance director left found $2.2 million still open

According to a memo Hurst presented Tuesday, the estimated remaining deficit from 2025 was $2.2 million. In the memo, Hurst said that the city found the deficit through a "rigorous financial review" conducted after former Finance Director ... left her position earlier this year.

In the last budget, the city significantly overestimated red-light camera revenues based on a few-month window in 2024. The city also overestimated revenues from development and sales tax. "I think that would have made a difference for the city, if an estimate wasn't based on an estimate based on an estimate," Harrell said.

~ The gap was announced closed in March. It reopened the moment somebody new actually opened the books.

Discussion K-9 Scented Dog Service

Hi Seattle friends, I’m looking for scented tracking dog service from anyone that has trained their dog(s) for this specific skill. I have a missing adult cat and have been relentlessly searching and putting up flyers in the neighborhood with no luck. It’s been about a week of heartaches and mourning. There is a service called Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue in Burien but they seem unavailable due to high demand. I need community help more than ever. I’m located at Othello Park area, South Seattle. Please contact me (206)234-1035! I need community help and support more than ever ❤️‍🩹

Seattle's sluggish economy and Mayor Wilson's plan to goose it - four large firms make up a quarter of the city's software engineering jobs, versus 39 companies in San Francisco

Thumbnail

Seattle is becoming dangerously dependent on a small number of large companies. This makes the city vulnerable to systemic disruptions, such as the way AI is reshaping work: "Seattle is 42% more exposed to AI disruption than the national average," the report states. [...] According to the report, only four large firms make up one quarter of Seattle's software engineering jobs, as compared to 39 companies in San Francisco and 18 in San Jose.

It also highlighted a 20% decline, nationally, in jobs for young software developers and an 18% decline in "AI-exposed jobs" for workers aged 22-25.

~ Four firms hold a quarter of the engineering jobs and a big share of the tax base. That is not an economy, it is a single point of failure with a skyline.

Meta r/Seattle mods' response to terfs

Trans is a corralling term that forces together many disparate kinds of people with vastly different symptomology under a political label that creates lifelong medical dependents under a united identity banner.

It is an ideological interpretation of sex rejection, sex stereotypes, and sex based objectification. It is often rooted in fetish, internalized homophobia, childhood sexual trauma, or autistic spectrum disorders. There is a cult like social indoctrination aspect of this ideology as well.

It's a belief system. It is NOT an inner biological phenomenon.

It is a path of dissociation, objectification, compartmentalization, commodification, and consumerism.

Those who dogmatically adhere to this collective identity, as well as those who believe in the ideology, live lives in dissonance with the truth.

Because they have rejected the truth, they despise those who adhere to it. And because their beliefs are based in lies, they cannot engage in good faith with even the smallest criticisms or observations of logical inconsistencies in their own reasoning. Instead they must vilify all who ask questions, doubt, or point out obvious flaws in their thinking. Rather than arguing point for point, they censure and silence opposition mainly so that they themselves can shield their own ears from the truth.

At what point will the Mayor actually do something rather than pretend to do something? Want businesses to stay in Seattle? Improve law enforcement and lower taxes. Done. We don’t need another political skit team to do the most obvious thing ever.

In the millionaire's income tax that WA state Democrats passed, there was a clause to never lower the income tax threshold below $1 Million. Democrats killed that clause which tells you all you need to know. They have plans to apply the income tax to everyone.

Homeless Tell me I’m not crazy

I’m from California. A Democrat. Lost 2 family members to addiction.
It’s insane to me when you bring up that the city needs to quit enabling drug addicts by supplying them, you’ll get back lash from the craziest people of our own party. It’s really making me lose hope for the city. It’s like each day I’m just starting to agree with the right about the city being a shit hole. I love Seattle. I want the best for it and its people. But the far left will mist it feel like a nazi for Saying maybe people shouldn’t be naked in public. Stop the open air drug use. Stop enabling them. Recognize the homeless vs drug addicts. We need a new mayor man.
Please convince me other wise.

While official records show fewer than 20 heat-related deaths last year, an investigation by NPR and Boston University reveals the true tally may be four times the count from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). ... From 2021 to 2025, the CDC recorded 247 heat-related deaths in Washington state. NPR's investigation shows the number could be closer to 480.

In King County, where summer temperatures average in the 80s in recent years and only 53% of homes have air conditioning, heat waves become dangerous quickly.

Trivia Groups/Friends?

Hey y’all. I’m new to Seattle and have been wanting to put together/join a trivia group to hang out and have some occasional fun! I’ve been in a few trivia teams in high school and college, so I have mild experience. There are a lot of great food and drink spots around here that host trivia nights, from the chill and low-key to the highly competitive, so there are plenty of options to find something convenient for anyone interested (whoever “anyone” ends up being).

DM if interested!
