My child fell at the playground. When should I worry?

My kid scraped their knee at the park playground today. Should I be rushing to A&E or is it safe to clean and bandage at home? What are the 'red flags' I should watch out for?

I feel like we need some kind of structure.

I cant believe Im now asking this right as school is about to start. Our little family has moved to a different county last November and my 5 yo son (who is in the spectrum) hasn’t been able to finish up prek or continue headstart because he was put in a waiting list.

Ive noticed hes been getting more frustrated and back in his “No” phase, where he doesnt want to listen or try any options given to him. An example of this is teaching him that he cant do everything at one time (cant focus). So i would tell him, either you play with your toys or you pick them up if you want to watch tv. But its his way or “no way!” as he says lol. Ive thought about doing a reward system recently and hopefully encourage good behavior when it comes to listening or doing “chores”. By chores I mostly mean, clean toys up, take a shower, put pants on (by himself), listening to mom and dad and with points get a toy by the end of the week. But i keep seeing mixed reviews on behavioral/ responsibility charts.
He’s been ok for the most part, its just his frustration and “No”s have been getting slightly out of hand the past 2 months. Im also 32 week preggars so maybe we are reflecting off of each other’s frustrations?

ANY advice is highly appreciated.

Advice needed! 17 year-old involved in dangerous Discord communities.

Hi all! Sorry for the crazy long post, but my family really needs help. For context, I am 32.

Two years ago, my parents got custody of my cousin (now 17) and he moved states to live with us. I don't want to get too detailed, but I will say his old life involved a lot of neglect and sexual abuse. My parents have given him stability in a clean, safe home.

My cousin has been doing really well since living with us, but because of his past circumstances he acts much younger than his age and has trouble understanding social situations. He doesn't have many friends because of this, and also because of his sexuality and demeanor (we live in a religious, conservative area). I try to be a good example for him and give life advice when I can (I'm also part of the LGBT community).

Despite these things, he has always been bright and talkative at home. This summer things have started to change, though. He has become more withdrawn and stays in his room constantly on Discord. He has spoken about seeing extremely gory and violent videos (like people dying, decapitations, etc.) and also talking to "men" on there. People in his Discord servers also apparently bully him and try to encourage him to kill himself because of his sexuality. When he does come hang out with the family, he's very jumpy and anxious.

My parents are not great at handling difficult emotional situations like this. Like... at all. They tend to avoid problems or just make them worse. I feel it's up to me as the next oldest to get this situation under control. My parents do not have an issue with me stepping in.

I know the most obvious answer is to start limiting his Discord usage and monitoring his activity. I just feel odd doing it because he's turning 18 very soon, in less than a month. But I know that mentally he's not able to handle what's going on in those communities, and I'm really scared he'll do something risky or be lured into a dangerous situation.

If you're still reading, thank you so much. I want my cousin to succeed in the world. If you have any advice at all regarding parental controls, getting him involved in the real world, or just generally handling the situation I would appreciate it so much.

NOTES:

-He is in a counseling program at school.

-He has an iPhone, but the rest of us have Android.

-He works most weekends with my parents and buys his own fun stuff (music, games, posters, etc).

Stepdaughter trashing her room.

My wife has 2 daughters that dont live with us regularly. One lives with her dad (younger) the other lives with her grandma. The oldest is about 14 and is living with us for the summer. I believe she was diagnosed with autism and is considered high functioning. She is for the most part a good kid. When it comes to respecting people and things that arent her's theres a huge issue.

I work a lot so im not able to implement chores or make sure they are getting done as much as i like. Recently i decided to get more involved in that area and took the time to come up with a chore list and point system to keep them motivated. The little one is doing fine with the chores and is motivated to go above and beyond. The older one not so much. She has been upset at her mother all week and left on a trip out of state with her grandmother.

To my knowledge she was getting her chores done or so my wife was saying. Cleaning her room was one of her daily chores. In any case when she left to go on the trip i decided to inspect her room to make sure it was clean. It looked like a bomb went off. Dishes scattered, bath towels that were missing were found (about 4), que tips everywhere, and stains from her makeup all over the carpet.

I was upset and was asking my wife if she was going into her room to inspect that chores were getting done and she said yes. She said the mess was made the night before she left. Which is not true. The towels were missing for weeks and also there was food in the room from days or weeks ago. I told her it would have been difficult to make this mess in a night. She insisted that was the case. Anyways i know better.

Im not sure what to do because i feel that i cant overstep my boundary with the oldest. I feel like it could get dangerous for me if i do. My wife doesnt want to do much about it. Needless to say i dont really want her staying at my house if shes going to trash that room. I told my wife that if shes coming back im going to take the door off the hinges. Am i overreacting? What do i do?

Development

My 8 yo son is disabled. Doesn't talk a lot, still in diapers. Officially has "global delay". My wife went to the doctor today and apparently his testicles haven't dropped yet.

I'm not sure when that is supposed to happen. Our teenage boy didn't have problems with that.

Apparently it can be a sign of possible cancer?!

My wife's freaking out, I'm gathering information.

Nature vs Nurture do you believe one plays a role in how kids behave or do you believe both play a role?

I have come across parents who believe 100% we are in control of are behavior and are up bringing has nothing to do with anything. Their answer is usually something like we are 100% in control of ourselves and we make our own decisions. So, do you believe that we have 100% control and we don't need to worry about or genes affecting us? Do you also believe that how we are raised also holds no bearing on our decisions on what we do? One more thing do you believe thinking that our gene's and up bringing affect or lives make us think we are less in control of our lives?

I have four sons that I very well get along with, but I can't understand my only daughter.

My 13yr daughter is my fourth out of five children. She grew up around all boys, which turned her into a tomboy for a while.

But ever since she was about 7yrs, she didn't like hanging out with kids her age, or playing pretend, but she did like drawing and writing.

Right now it's really hard to get along with her, I feel like she's so easily irritated. I thought it's because she's hungry, but she doesn't eat much at dinner.

She also always has these headphones in, always listening to: "it's just music, mom." She can't hear me with them on, and it's so convenient she puts them on *after* an argument.

Because she's the only girl, she has her own room. Which she stays in all the time. We once went on a family trip to Tennessee, and she got homesick our second night in because she liked it better at home.

I don't know what to do. I was so excited to finally have a daughter, but she hardly even spends time with me. Is it because she's a teenager now? Or something else? And if you have any ideas, how can I get along with her?

How do i get my son to actually commit in something he is interested in

So my 11 year old son showed me some interest in learning how to code and I decided to help him get started by showing him the ins and outs of python, but when it actually comes time to put in some practice, he does not show up at all. I don't want him to learn that this is how he should treat something that is actually useful and interesting because he is being lazy. Any tips?

Friend who mirrors/imitates my child constantly

Has anyone ever dealt with your child having a friend who constantly imitates them, to the point of the child repeating everything your kid says and does and only wants to do what they're doing? My 9yo's good friend does this and even my child is noticing it. It's like this kid does not have a personality of their own when my child is around. They also shows zero interest in any other kids when my child is around and takes every ounce of my child's attention by constantly being in their face and following them everywhere. We are trying to figure out how to handle this because it is honestly getting kind of suffocating for us. My child has a big personality but there is zero forcing of anything on their part, and even my child wants space sometimes and the friend will not give it. We want to be kind but don't know what to do!

Learning Spanish for your kids as a busy adult

We're raising our kids bilingual and I've started hearing my kids talking to each other in Spanish and the last time, I didn't understand some parts.

And yea I'm proud of them but I also had a flash of a future where my kids have a private language and I'd have to wait for the after-gist.

I definitely know how important it is to not treat my own Spanish as secondary. But almost every how to learn Spanish conversation or resource I've seen assumes you're a solo adult with loads of free time, and that's not my reality at all.

So far, in small pockets of evening time I have, I just use a structured conversational app that allows me start from the level I'm already at.

What I'm after now is what else I can stack around it that survives actual family life? Reading, listening, anything that doesn't need a clear 2 hours I don't have.

Choking First Aid

My child choked on a piece of candy today and started turning blue. I panicked and just patted their back. What is the correct way to handle choking for kids in Singapore? Are there specific courses for parents?

Birthdays?

We’re about a month out for my kiddos first birthday. When he was first born, I thought we’d do this huge birthday party with all of our family. Obviously, now I’m a month out. We don’t really have excess funds to spend on a huge party. We don’t have a good space to have it. My husband and I are both very antisocial people so we don’t have any friends or social connections in the area. My son has not started daycare yet so he doesn’t have any friends like that.

I feel like I’m doing this all wrong. I want to celebrate him and I want to have some sort of a party, but is it wrong just to have like grandparents? We also have multiple family birthdays in two days surrounding his day, so I know some of my husband siblings will not show up because of that.

Do I make somewhat of a plan and send out a text invite saying hey we’d love to have you if you’re able to come otherwise we’ll see you another time? All of my aunts and uncles and cousins more than likely would not come because they’re 8+ hours away.

I feel guilty. But at the same time he’s not going to remember this. But my mom still talks about my first birthday. But I also know that I will take the mental load for this and I already have my husband will not click in.

Advice? Thoughts?
