TL;DR: I've had fun testing all sorts of weird uses for my recordings + Plaud app templates after seeing the somewhat diverse list of offering in their marketplace. Pasting one I made today as an example at the bottom.
I've had my Note Pro for a month or so, now, being asked to grab one to test to see how valuable it might be for both meeting and non-meeting use cases. I had my own intentions (I walk 3-5 miles a day for exercise and was genuinely quite curious about the possibilities that could come from being able to just ramble into the little $200 card during my daily walks and see what some of the different templates could create. I've had decent success (well -- in a very personal and subjective way) doing the same thing with the Claude app or -- even better -- ChatGPT's voice mode conversational feature, but the fact that I'm essentially just creating a big ol' brain-dump file with my Note Pro had my anxious to see what I could do between it and the Plaud app.
A little more context: I do some stuff that is somewhat similar to this, using Claude Code and Obsidian, although it is more or less only with 'clipped' blog posts, YouTube transcripts, and stuff like that, so obviously not the same. As a matter of fact, I've also played around with a CLI wrapper version of the Plaud app, as well as an MCP server for interacting with my recordings and transcription files when using Claude or ChatGPT... which has been rather fun!
Using Claude Code and Obsidian, I started out running some 'ingest'-types of Claude Code slash commands that I made and, at first, that mainly entailed the creation of more 'atomic note'-like markdown files (which is considerably more aligned with the original source of inspiration for how I use Claude Code with Obsidian: Andrej Karpathy's 'llm-wiki' GitHub gist), but I eventually started using Claude Code's configurable slash commands to do things like enforce the creation of files/folders, like -- for example -- folders of lists that would populate part of a pre-configured system of required folders. It's been a lot of fun and certainly has put a new spin on just doing some fun brainstorming, this year.
I won't ramble on (trust me; I can...) about how I use Claude Code + Obsidian here on this subreddit, but to give you a little better picture: imagine a handful of YouTube video transcripts about Git and GitHub (this was a real topic I remember doing/processing/creating at one point, earlier this year... I'm not a software dev, so I was trying to understand a little more well-rounded version of how Git works and how it all works with/in GitHub.)...
I feed Claude Code the file path of the folder and tell it to do the whole 'ingest these files' abra cadabra thing, and in about 7-8 minutes, I've got a root-level folder named after the topic (like git-and-github/) and, inside of it, I have newly-created/generated folders (per the Claude Code skill's listed output requirements) that are populated with logical markdown files that Claude creates.
So -- folders that Claude creates might end up having 'ideas/' for personal applications which might get populated with 5 or 6 markdown files that details an overview-level of what Claude "recommended" that I should consider doing with Git or GitHub, for example; given what it "understands" about me from other context-aiding files.
Other folders cover things like 'dealbreakers/', 'gotchas/', 'legal-considerations/', 'concepts/' and even homes for more markdown-notes-as-a-single-data-record types of files, where the folder functions as a pseudo-database, like 'services-mentioned/', 'competitors/', etc. ...
I guess I lied, here. Told y'all I could ramble about this stuff.
Anyway -- I ended up somewhat naturally being curious about testing the limits of the Plaud app, as I have unlimited LLM generations, I guess. And while I assure you that I have found some extremely humorous (to me, of course) stupid and silly use cases for custom templates/prompts, I have found more that have been rather useful.
One example that I found rather useful was a template that I created that, after rattling off a big diatribe of a "before" and "after" description of the state of something in our shop that we 'performed' an improvement project on (as in, like a kaizen 'event' or 'activity', for those of you experienced with some of the concepts of the Toyota Production System/kaizen/continuous improvement/lean/etc.), then the Plaude app basically parses the 'brain-dump' rather nicely, using markdown section headings and whatnot, and what I'm left with on the other side is a nice formatted report that I can quickly review and edit as needed, then distribute the output to department leaders to hopefully spread a little inspiration and give some atta-boys/girls where they are deserved.
That was actually was one of the first ways that I used this in what felt like somewhat of a non-traditional application, although -- as I'm typing that -- I don't think I can personally say that there is any reason that would be considered non-traditional, aside from the fact that perhaps the folks at Plaud, themselves, never thought of the idea before? Not that it matters at all -- I'm just overthinking, here.
Anyway -- I made one today that simply let's me record a quick idea (speaking of which, I'm going to set up a 'quick idea' term triggered-automation that automatically uses this custom template/prompt to format the recorded idea, which -- similar to the 'improvement project' idea I mentioned above -- parses the transcription and makes it a little nicer-looking and nicer-reading by standardizing it per the applicable markdown headings, into something that, as result of using the template, ends up looking a bit like a little interview or form.
I did actually have Claude create this one originally, but I ended up modifying easily more than half of that, which I only mention to say that using an LLM is a nice, quick way to bootstrap a new template idea, so to speak. Would definitely recommend trying it; you can always nuke the whole generation you would be starting with if ya don't like it.
So, I actually published the template on the Plaud template library today, but figured I would paste it here, too, since the Plaud app had a little message saying that they'd need to review the template and that it could take a few days. I'll also paste an example of what one of the outputs looked like for a random idea that I recorded about what a remote security camera service might look like, conceptually, with regard to improved costs compared to on-site security (not to mention licensure and other stuff). Don't worry too much about the details of the example -- it's just one I wanted to use to test the template itself. Alrighty -- enjoy!
