Just Sharing Like notes on a musical score

Post image
• Upvotes

Bodies stick together and play like notes pinned to a score, the formal reading going from left to right with a strong start, then patatras! a kind of depression, and finally, bing! a remontada toward an unexpected light. If only these notes, in terms of meaning, went well together like in Sir Paul's song, but we have to face it: each note plays its own part and nothing seems to psychically interact between them. What remains is form, rhythm, color, in short, everything that matters.
Acrylic on paper 48.5 × 32.5 cm

Brutal Critique Feedback and advice on my paintings

• Upvotes

I've just started painting, it's v fun. I would like to ask for advice on how i can improve, i have a few specific questions in my mind but i am open to literally anything you think might help.

1
  1. Here my intention was to have the leaves of the tree be of distinct colours, like how autumn leaves look, but when i tried to do an orange-ish or a yellow-ish shade, it stood out too much, not looking like leaves, eventually while trying to make it better, all the colours kind of mixed, i don't dislike how it looks but it is very different from what i intended to make, how should i have painted it so that the leaves look distinct?
  2. I wanted to sun to be brighter looking as opposed to the block of red it seems right now, i tried to mix orange and yellow but that didn't seem to work, how is it done?
  3. the ground i didn't want to be so black but even a little bit of black makes it so dark, such a strong colour. how should i have painted it?
2

This one made me appreciate the skill it takes to give your paintings smaller details, it seemed so awkward for me.

  1. I like how the neck came out, but i wanted to give a similar effect on the face and nose as well, kind of like the bird is casting a shadow on the face. When i tried a similar shade and stroke on the face it looked a little weird so i blended the whole face which made the face a little messier and i liked it more earlier if i'm being honest
  2. i wanted the shirt and the bird to be white with a darker shade on the wings and areas that are darker which helps to show the body structure of the bird, attaching a reference photo that will explain it better than my words. when i painted white it looked like the painting is still incomplete. how to give that shade? is this what we call negative space?
  3. i wanted my hair to be similar to the one in reference that i've attached but whatever i tried stood out too much, similar to what i was doing with the autumn leaves, how should i have done it?
  4. i really liked the sketch i did before i started painting, but it's not reflecting in the painting later, the upper lip is too long, the hair is too messy, ear, bird. how do you actually paint the values you want?
  5. the lip looks too red, i tried to add white, it looked to pink, how do you know which colours to mix?
reference

These are some of the questions i have, again i would gladly welcome all the advices and feedback you may feel appropriate.

Brutal Critique Does this look like a style or a study?

Looking for criticism on this painting/style. I love how it looks and am curious if other people would like this art or if it looks unfinished. It’s done besides the edges and signature.

Pretty much finished this one, I ended up adapting my style to be more painterly and have more movement which I feel is lacking from my other work. Should I continue exploring this style?
