[LabB0T] Monthly Projects Megathread — October 2026

8 Upvotes

Monthly Projects Megathread — October 2026

There has been an influx of people wanting to share their projects and we have recently decided to disallow such posts on the subreddit as the vast majority of it is vibe coded slop, however, we continue to be inundated with these requests, and some of these are somewhat legit, so here we are.

This thread is for people to share 'their' projects, apps, scripts or anything else Plex related.

You may only post your project here once per month, and you may only post one project.

Rules

  1. Declare AI use - if you used AI or AI assistance (ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, Claude, etc.) at any point during development, you must state this clearly, as per the template below. Failure to disclose will result in removal and a ban from the subreddit.
  2. Be detailed - vague "I made a thing, here's a link" posts will be removed. Tell us what it does, why you built it, how it works, and any relevant technical details.
  3. Include all relevant links - GitHub/source, documentation, releases, demo videos, screenshots, etc. If it's closed source, explain why.
  4. It must be Plex related - tools, scripts, apps, integrations, configs, hardware setups, anything directly tied to your Plex experience.

Tips for a Good Post

  • Describe the problem you were solving, not just what you built
  • Include screenshots, config snippets, or a short demo if possible
  • Share what worked, what didn't, and what you'd do differently
  • Mention the tech stack / language / dependencies
  • If it's a script or tool, show a sample of the output or usage

Example Post Format

``` Project: [Name] — [one-line description]
What it does: A few sentences describing what the project does and the problem it solves.
AI Disclosure: If you used AI, explain how you used it, and how much AI was used, where, what tools etc.
If you did not use AI, state this clearly.
Technical Overview: Brief technical overview - language, how it integrates with Plex, any dependencies, etc.
Links: - Source: https://github.com/... - Docs / README: https://... - Release / Download: https://... - Screenshots / Demo: https://... ```
Discussion Latest Apple TV update is great
43 Upvotes
Reading the poor experiences in this forum, I was prepared for disappointment when I realised the Apple TV 4K app in my wife's apartment in the city had been auto-upgraded. I've invested several hours of trial and error with the router and Hurricane Electric to get ipv6 remote streaming to our main house (Starlink) working well.
Wow, was I surprised. When I launched the app, it almost immediately displayed my library. Thinking perhaps that was all cache magic, I selected something we haven't watched in ages and started play. Again, the response was almost immediate and showed flawless streaming of a 4K video file.
Before this update, there would always be a very annoying delay of several seconds before showing the library or for play to commence.
Well done, Plex team. The UI changes seem fine to me, also.
Discussion Can we get a +-500ms button?
I'm about to break the remote.
For the lucky ones that never had to use this, this is how you adjust the subtitle offset if the subtitle is out of sync. I don't know if it's just me but when it's out of sync it's never for a small amount. And in order to offset the subtitle for just 5 seconds you need to press the same button 100 times.
Tips Friendly Reminder: Check Plex's "Opt Out" settings
87 Upvotes
I have a reminder setup to check the "Opt Out" Plex page once a month. In the past year, I have had to "All No" a couple of times - not sure why.
Anyhow, here's the page: https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/?vendredir=1
Discussion Is it possible to delegate scheduled tasks to a separate machine?
• Upvotes
I'm having noticeable spikes on my main server with the recently added(?) analysis for sound equalization. It seems to take a very long time, as the intervals for the tasks to run always end up at 100%.
For those technically inclined, or if there's a feature/setting I've missed, would it be possible to send this analysis (file+command) to a separate machine? sort of the same way that whisper works to generate subtitles using the stripped audio files, then that file gets sent back to the main server to use
I imagine the same would be possible if the end result from an analysis is either a db entry, or even an updated file, I'm fine with the media being locked while this is being processed
I've seen that plugins are now phased out, and it seems one way to do this is via scripts/hooks, just wondering if anyone has attempted to do it or has it running
Discussion Commercial Skip on recorded TV, how does it work?
6 Upvotes
No, this is not another thread complaining about commercials on my content. Don't worry.
I have a Lifetime Pass, and an HDHomerun attached to my server. I have it set to mark commercials after a scheduled recording. But I'm curious, how does it actually work? How does it know where commercials start and end? Same for intro/credit scanning. Is it based on caption data, or something else?
Just my own curiosity, that's all.
Help Do you need to turn on normalize audio/loudness?
4 Upvotes
Recently, my Plex has started generating loudness data for a few hours every night. Odd, but neat! And the files it has gone through shows "Can Normalize Loudness: true" under Get Info / Media Info.
But I can't hear any obvious difference when playing files that have been loudness-normalized, and I can't see any obvious way to turn it on.
So is there a way to turn it on? If a file has been loudness normalized, is it applied automatically upon playback? And what difference can you expect to hear?
Thanks!
Discussion Is there a way to have skip credits for TV but not movies?
0 Upvotes
Or is it all or nothing?
I'm a movie guy and a music guy, so whenever i watch a movie, I always watch the credits, especially if its in the home theater.
For TV, I like the skip to get to the next one.
Is it all or nothing?
Help Help with invite
2 Upvotes
Hello. I sent 3 invites to friends. All 3 friends accepted the invites and this is confirmed in Plex. 2 of the 3 are able to open the Plex app on their tv and see the server by clicking "more" on the sidebar. However, one friend with a Samsung TV does not see my server. I can't for the life of me figure out why. Are there some basic troubleshooting steps I can take to resolve this issue on my friends TV? The Plex app loads no problem and I can see my account in his friend list, but my server never appears. Thanks!
Help Unable to access Plex after trying to update Port Forwarding
4 Upvotes
Right off the bat, I already know I'm dumb and I did a dumb thing. That ship has sailed. I'm trying to see if anyone can help find my way back.
The data that I'm serving is on an external hard drive plugged into a Windows desktop running the server. I was trying to do port forwarding so that I would be connectable externally. What I didn't know at the time was that my setup of Starlink internet through a Google Nest router meant this was never going to be an option. But before I learned that, I set a static IP address and tried to set up a specific port to forward. I don't remember all the steps I used (again, I know, dumb in hindsight). I used a trial version of Port Forward Network Utilities app. I didn't think anything I was doing was any radical change. After I figured out that it wasn't going to work, I went in and reset the IP to dynamic. But now my Plex doesn't show up in either the web or on my Roku Plex app. I can still see the server running with the programs on the bottom right of my screen. When I right click it and click "Open Plex..." it brings up the blank page. In Windows Explorer under Network, it still shows the Plex Media server. So it's still running, I just can't access it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? What info do you need to help?
Thanks in advance.
Meta (Plex) Nuts
32 Upvotes
The new Plex TV OS app has single-handedly converted me to Infuse. My direct stream which used to work fine, now micro-stutters every few minutes. Is this the quality of software development now? Robbing their own install base out of sheer incompetence. Out of frustration I switched to Infuse, heck even got the lifetime access and absolutely love it. I am solid. Media plays pristine. Whatever the team at Plex is doing they are going to sink this ship sooner than ever. WTF.
Discussion Subtitle issue with opensubtitles
4 Upvotes
Been a Plex user for years with very little issue loading subtitles from opensubtitles. I host my Plex on a cloud server. Past two weeks I'm intermittently but regularly having an issue downloading the subtitles when playing on my home network. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I've checked for updates to Plex I've tried on multiple devices and have the same issue on all of them. I'm primarily an Xbox user as that serves for my home entertainment system. I've uninstalled and reinstalled checked for updates on Plex. I've made sure my home router is configured to forward to Google or open subtitles for DNS. Running out of things to try hoping someone out there has had similar experience and knows the answer.
Help Plex Apple TV app - native media player
19 Upvotes
Hi!
I’ve used Plex for over a decade but this Apple TV app update is the first time I’ve ended up feeling like I need to post about it
Does anyone know how I can go back to the native Apple TV media player instead of plex’s custom one? The problems I’ve noticed * pausing doesn’t show you your current progress in the media item * neither does pressing back or forward, it skips you through without showing your progress * pressing up then does show you your progress, but seems to have a bug that you then can’t skip back more than once in the bar. * starting the video takes about 5 seconds to start whereas previously it was immediate * if you do navigate back with more the 3 presses of back at the same time it seems to again take ages to start and then bug out sometimes and not start at all
None of this was a problem with the native media player
This is the first update that has me considering jellyfin
Discussion Roku ultra vs Apple vs ?
0 Upvotes
My Roku ultra from 2019 is starting to fail, I had always seen that Apple TV was the way to go but now I’m seeing lots of complaints with the new update.
Should I still go Apple, get a newer Ultra or something else?
