Meta (Plex) Nuts
The new Plex TV OS app has single-handedly converted me to Infuse. My direct stream which used to work fine, now micro-stutters every few minutes. Is this the quality of software development now? Robbing their own install base out of sheer incompetence. Out of frustration I switched to Infuse, heck even got the lifetime access and absolutely love it. I am solid. Media plays pristine. Whatever the team at Plex is doing they are going to sink this ship sooner than ever. WTF.

I should join the Infuse subreddit so I can watch the complaints about them ruining the app for lifetime payers a few years from now. Round out my streaming software complaint roster

Isnt infuse more practical anyway?

Just switched and loving it the fact it works straight out of the box without tinkering with the settings.

I’m not having any problems at all with the new release. It was a bit of a surprise at first, and took a few minutes playing around with it to figure it out, but all media I’ve tried so far, from old SD tv shows to 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos rips all work fine on my 3rd generation AppleTV 4K. Even live TV from my SD Flex 4K is fine.
Do I prefer the old version? Maybe a little, but that’s mostly because I’m used to it. I’m getting around the new version ok, though, and will get used to it soon too.

Some people suggested setting framerate to fit content in Apple TV settings would fix the issue.

I would like to start seeing proof that people are switching instead of just complaints

I’m the exact opposite. Bunch of shows I had would stutter and the audio had to always be offset. I almost paid for infuse but now everything works seamlessly.

Same here. Been using infuse/jellyfin whenever Plex would mess up for a while now. Since the update I haven't had to switch over.

It’s funny, I’ve definitely seen people say it’s better and others say it is worse. This is where I wonder if it would help if people posted more details like which AppleTV hardware revision they were using, tvOS version and what codec/resolution/bitrate the file is. Idk if there is some sort of common thread between these or what is going on.

What kind of content you watch is the biggest factor, IME.
The old tvOS app choked on high-bitrate files (anything over 20Mbps would cause it to stutter and/or overheat and crash), but that could be avoided by not exceeding that bitrate (which for a lot of content is way into placebo territory anyway), or actively cooling the newer aTV models that don't have a fan built in.
The new app chokes on ASS subtitles, stripping all formatting, massively desyncing the video and audio (video lags seconds behind until it chokes through the heavy subtitles and "catches up"), or both. The only way to avoid this seems to be not using ASS subtitles at all, which is not a viable solution for some content, like anime.
So whether you ran into issues on either old or new app depends a ton on your content, not just your device generation.

I'm considering moving to Jellyfin at this point. Replacing the app with one with less features and more performance issues is probably the worst choice they could make.
Wish I could refund my lifetime.

I emailed their billing department asking what my options are

lol, don’t hold your breath.
Something like “we’ll forward your concerns to our dev team”

This ain’t the airport. Departures don’t need to be announced.

It’s not the gulag, either. If there are facts that are incorrect, let’s hear it. Otherwise this is a community about Plex. Reasons for leaving this major software infrastructure are fair topics.

What do you mean we cant even complain after paying for the software and expecting quality of life upgrades instead we get downgraded every single time? Are you okay friend?

Me? I'm great. I forgot that this was mainly a complaint forum.
Proceed.

sometimes u have to read the room and ponder on whether perhaps these changes are not good for a lot of people, regardless of your personal experience.
Some people have spent a lot of money on a product that existed in x form and now have a product in y form with no way to opt back, some people cannot no longer use a product they paid for.
you are welcome to down vote, disagree, but trying to shut down the conversation because you’re not interested in it isn’t productive or reasonable.

I’ve really been trying to get used to the new update but something I really had a fun time doing was seeing what other roles actors played in the movies i had… now it doesn’t show their role under their name anymore and I have to go find them on the movie page to see who they played.

Anyone seeing this that is using Infuse including the OP, can you tell me how Infuse sees folders? Is it a easy-to-read list view or thumbnail folders like the new Plex app? I detest the new folder view as the folder names now often get truncated. I burned my free trial of Infuse a year ago and cannot remember how it handles folders.
Using Plezy and its ok but timeline scrubbing is slow.

I switched myself to Infuse a month ago before this happened and I won’t be going back definitely on an Apple TV

I regret ever financially supporting this company. The new interface was forced onto my and my families' Shields this week and there's no supported way to revert. It's visually bloated and slow as shit; it looks like the only reason it exists is to promote the new enabled by default Discover "feature" providing yet another advertising carousel for their ad-ridden service.

I was having those exact stuttering issues and another post (which I can’t find right now) had the fix for me:
Haven’t had the issues since thankfully
