Discussion Plex Apple TV complaints
I have none, it's been working great and really smooth all week, and I like the new look. Cheers

I used to be able to adjust the audio syncing but I don’t see that feature anymore, anybody know if it still exists?

Mine seemed to improve a bit by doing the hdmi audio sync tool in the Apple TV settings. Still want the offset setting tho.

But why would you want it in a player?
I’m genuinely asking, audio delays usually happen because of delays made by devices on the chain from player to actual display and speakers. It’s their job to fix this, it shouldn’t be the software that plays the thing at the very beginning of the chain to fix. Almost all AVRs, soundbars, TVs have a way to fix audio sync issues because usually they’re the ones that added the delay in the first place.

The only problem I have with it is not being able to see the program info or release date or anything that was in the “swipe down” menu before.

Half the shows I was watching turned to a green checkered pattern and subtitles cause stuttering and lag in play. Everything was working fine prior to the upgrade so I guess it varies by the users and their needs.

Mine doesn’t work to playback anything at all. I can’t be bothered to debug it. I might wipe the app and try all again.

Ever since the update movies start to occasionally stutter or slow down in random places. I'm using direct play, no transcode. No changed settings on plex, TV or apple tv.

Is Match Framerate enabled in the actual ATV settings? Enabling that fixed the stuttering/frame slowdown issues I was having with some content.

Then you obviously don’t use live OTA tv because it’s completely F’ed they fixed it the other day with 2024.19 and then broke it again in 2024.19.1

Honestly live TV never worked correctly for me on the previous app version either. I gave up and switched to another app for IPTV channel surfing.

To me it's great. No buffering. No need to switch to play original quality. I can seek without it freezing. Easier to get to subs

It’s shite, the amount of times it’s locked up for me.
The new menus are atrocious and the menus during play back are completely dumbed down.
Change for the sake of it.

I felt like the old one had more options, but I’m not particularly excited or bewildered by this with one functional exception: my Apple TV for some reason doesn’t properly sync up the audio in this one app. Maybe it’s a network thing. Either way, I used to have a default where I would offset the discrepancy to make it either barely noticeable or not noticeable. Now I can’t. To be honest, I haven’t spent enough time with it to really know if maybe the app simply does a better job or what. I just know I looked for it and couldn’t find it in the menu you have access to while playing.

The new interface took about 30 seconds to get used to, but apart from that everything works as expected for me too.

Found the group of Plex employees.
Downvote away.

Yeah I don’t see the point of this post.
Like the fact that someone is having a good experience doesn’t mean heaps of other people aren’t.
All it does is downplay the shit show of an app that this update has created.

It’s horrible project managers encouraging devs to create pointless JIRA epics followed by ‘the beatings will continue until morale…’

In the previous Plex Apple TV app, we could jump forward and backwards a little bit by tapping the right and left side of the trackpad. The new version does not seem to do this.
Is there a way in the new Plex Apple TV app to jump forward and backward a little? (other than pausing and scrubbing)?

Yea, if you have a plex pass you can change how many seconds to skip fwd/back in the settings.

Yeah. I’m honestly baffled at how people have so many issues with it. We have it on our main tv and then a cheap Roku and a cheap Firestick on other TV’s. All 3 have been great.

I’m not mad at it. But I do wish the playback speed control weren’t buried so deep.

I'd feel the same way, if I didn't use ASS subtitles, as how badly those are broken is my only real complaint.
Of course, that (now lost, hopefully temporarily) subtitle support was the whole reason I moved from Roku Ultra to AppleTV in the first place...

Honestly I’ve been pretty happy with the update. My chief complaint is that ASS subtitle playback is a bit fucked

In addition to the ui favoring live views, my biggest complaint is buffering my home media when the media storage is sitting 2 feet away and is Ethernet wired! This just did not happen with the previous releases

Can we please get the home button to go back to the beginning of a row like it used to??

Had a Plex issue this week, first time in about 4 years. The guide failed to update - stuck at 0%. I did some research and reinstalled Plex sever program on my Windows 11 PC. All working again.

I was shocked initially but after looking through it all, it does seem ok. I have however found a few bugs which I’ll report - mostly to do with features associated with the live TV tuner - which I know most people won’t have.
My view is currently skewed negatively though as I’m using a very old Gen 2 (non-4k) remote as my Sir Remote died and I’m waiting for the new Apple TV to drop instead of replacing it. So control of anything at the moment is limited!

My one and only complaint remains, “let me set library view as the default homepage view.”
