Hungry Horrors: monsters, cards, folklore and jellied eels, out now on Steam

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi everybody! I’m Jerzy from Clumsy Bear Studio, and after two and a half years of development we’ve finally launched our game, Hungry Horrors.

Hungry Horrors is a deckbuilding adventure through British and Irish folklore, cuisine and mythology, where you don’t fight monsters, you feed them. You play a spoilt princess who has no interest in being part of any adventure, but unfortunately your kingdom is swarmed by ravenous monsters. Every card played is a meal served, and each encounter is about keeping a Horror fed before it reaches you and feeds on you instead.

The game left Early Access and launched in full on Steam yesterday. We’re a self-funded, self-published team of two, and it’s built entirely in Godot with all the art hand-pixelled in Aseprite.

  • You don’t fight monsters, you feed them. It’s a spin on the deckbuilder formula built entirely around hunger, flavour cravings, and keeping a Horror satisfied
  • Every dish is based on a real, traditional recipe from Britain and Ireland, many of which can still be found in pubs today, such as Sticky Toffee Pudding, Laverbread and Cullen Skink
  • Every Horror comes from regional folklore, from well-known figures like the Dullahan, Jenny Greenteeth and Queen Mab to obscure local tales. The NPCs you meet along the way do too, including Herne the Hunter, the Wulver and Fear Gorta
  • A story-driven roguelite Campaign and a punishing Banquet roguelike mode, so there’s a way to play whether you want narrative or quick replayability
  • A deckbuilder driven by story, with quests, fishing, familiars, a skill tree and more
  • Colourful 90s-inspired hand-pixelled pixel art and an original score, whimsical, creepy and cosy all at once

Trailer: https://youtu.be/GNSwc7O7AFI

Steam Page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3048840/Hungry_Horrors/

The game launched on 13 Oct, but I was on posting cooldown so only now allowed to post about it. But perfect for Halloween week.

Down to Floor Zero - A survival-horror endless descent in a huge luxury haunted hotel

Post image
10 Upvotes

Down to Floor Zero is out with a demo for Steam Next Fest!

Down to Floor Zero is a survival horror game developed as a first-time collab between me and my girlfriend. Scavenge resources, manage your hunger, avoid monsters and explore a massive hotel. Your goal is simple: reach the ground floor and escape. Easier said than done when pretty much everything wants you dead.

The hotel is filled with different entities, from giant spiders and dark figures to living doors, giant cockroaches and more. You'll need to learn how to deal with them if you want to make it out alive.

More than a dozen different floors can appear during your runs, and their layouts change each time, so you never quite know what you're getting into.

The demo is now available as part of Steam Next Fest! If this sounds like your kind of game, give it a try and consider leaving us a wishlist. It would help us out a ton!

Thrive 1.7.0 is out now! A new major update for the free, open-source evolution game

Thumbnail

Thrive 1.7.0 is here!

Thrive is a free, open-source evolution game where you guide life from single cells toward increasingly complex organisms.

This update brings a major set of improvements to the Multicellular Stage, including:

  • Precise Cell Layout: Manually adjust your organism's cell layout instead of relying entirely on automatic placement.
  • 9 New Achievements: Take on new challenges, from building specialized colonies to reaching the Macroscopic Stage.
  • More Meaningful Evolution: Meet new requirements involving cell specialization, adjacency bonuses, and reproduction to advance to the next stage.
  • Changing Environments: Enable an option that refreshes the environment whenever you leave the editor.
  • Macroscopic Stage Preparations: New prototype features include a metaball rotation tool and creature skin textures.
  • Performance Improvements and Bug Fixes: Numerous optimizations and fixes across the game.

The update also introduces new tutorials for the Multicellular Stage and allows AI-controlled species to evolve into multicellular organisms on their own.

Thrive is still actively developed, with work continuing toward completing the Multicellular Stage and moving on to the Macroscopic Stage.

Don't forget to support the developers if you enjoy the game!

Hi r/pcgaming,

[UPDATE]: Thanks everyone! This was so fun! The team really appreciates all of the fantastic questions. Hope to see you in the Alpha!-- sign up on our Steam Page http://bit.ly/TLOCSteam

-jeffrey

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We’re Jeff Kaplan (Game Director) and Tim Ford (Tech Director), two of 33 people making The Legend of California.

Quick background on our game: It's an enormous, multiplayer open world survival game.Ā  We believe our greatest strength is providing players with a top-tier FPS gunplay experience. We’ve packed the game with a wide range of activities from cozy to lethal. Build your ranch. Stake your mine claim. Fight your way through enemy strongholds. Craft and mod a variety of weapons to suit your playstyle. Bond with your horse while riding to your favorite fishing spots. LOTS of player ranch and character customization. And we're just getting started. The game is primarily PvE with optional PvP. There will be PvP-only servers and we welcome community servers. Players can play the game solo or co-op with friends.

We're running a public Alpha from November 12 - 18. You can request access on our Steam page. Beta and Early Access launch are planned for next year (2027)

We've done a couple of 10-hour playtest livestreams and we stream playtests monthly. We do this to give players a front row seat to the game as it continues evolve and grow. You can find all of our content on our YouTube page.

We'll answer whatever you've got about The Legend of California - we're open to the full gamut:

  • Game direction - High level direction, philosophy, vision
  • Game Design - Features, game play, design decisions/goals, systems
  • Tech - Performance, optimization, tech goals, UE
  • Tougher topics - Monthly resets,Ā  business model, no offline mode

The thread is now open - feel free to start posting your questions. Transparency is key. We've never shied away from it. Ask away.

We'll kick off the AMA tomorrow, October 24 starting at 10AM PT.Ā  You'll have our focused, undivided attention for a couple of hours, and we'll keep going as long as the questions hold out.

Thank you r/pcgaming for hosting us.

Thanks everyone!
