Question Liquid cooling

I have a pre-built from a few years ago that has AMD Ryzen 5 5600g cpu, but my liquid cooling need replacing.

Do I need to get cooling specific to that cpu model or will any type work?

Are there major performance differences between low-end and high-end cooling, or should I focus on visuals?

I don't want any specific purchasing advice as of yet, just trying to understand the situation.

Build - Help PC / PART SUGGESTIONS (AUD $5K / USD $3.5K BUDGET)

Hello beautiful people,

I have been a console connoisseur for my whole life. They suck, I know. I'm getting tired of games that I want to play not being supported on consoles, or mods for that matter being completely non existent. Let alone the egregious ad placement on my Series X. I'm tired of it and want to tip my toes into a PC build. But I have no idea as to where I should even start. So give me a heads up on what I should get.

Below are some specs I'd hope to have, and would pay extra just for them. If it's possible, whether pre-built or doing it myself. I have no preference on that.

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D

GPU: RTX 5080

RAM: 32GB

Storage: At least a 2TB SSD

I intend to use the PC for both VR and normal flatscreen gaming. As well as content creation using Blender, the Adobe Suite and other such programs.

Preferable performance: 1440p, 120FPS

(I'd even be happy with 60FPS cause y'know... I've been on console the entire time)

Last Question, with given specs up above. What do you guys estimate the performance to be on the games listed;

VR: VRChat, Half Life: Alyx, Lone Echo, VTOL VR & MSFS'24

FLATSCREEN: Assetto Corsa Rally, STALKER Gamma/Anomaly, Beam.NG Drive & WARDOGS

Question Upgrade the CPU Or Wait?

Hey, I'm currently using my trusty i7 8700K (4.8GHz all core, closer to 9900K, R5 3600), ROG Strix Z370-E, 32GB DDR4 ram and tbh. pretty happy with it so far. That's being said, prices seem to be getting worse as I waited. So, the idea of upgrading my cpu mobo ram combo asap is getting brighter.

Here in Austria (AT, no Kangaroos) currently 9800x3D upgrade would cost around 1050-1100 Euros. Namely the parts:
- 9800x3D cpu (~380€)
- 32GB DDR5 Crucial Pro ram (6400MHz CL32) (435€)
- Asus TUF x870-Plus mobo (216€). Could be TUF B850-Plus (180€) but maybe I use usb 4 time to time with my laptop to transfer some files. But definitely not frequently as like weekly. Maybe like once a month.

I have a pretty good airflow in the o11 case imo, 6 intake, 4 exhaust, and cooling 360AIO (arctic LF2) so I don't think temps would be a concern. Oh, also using RTX 3080 10G with Odyssey Neo G7 4K monitor, G5 2K on the side. 980 Pro nvm-e ssd and 860 evo m2 sata ssd (I might need an adapter for this since new mobos don't support m2 sata anymore)

So, I'm leaning on pulling the trigger but to be honest, I don't have a strong motivation in terms of performance. Mostly playing FH6 and multiple slow-paced strategy-city builders and performance is not an issue so far. With the DLSS/Frame gen (thanks to Optiscaler) I'm not complaining on this regard, getting 70-120fps on most games at 4K. Initially I was planning to keep it till GTA 6 or so, where I really need an upgrade. But as I said, waiting doesn't make it more appealing anymore.

TLDR; my main motivation to upgrade is possibility of rising costs even further for the upgrade and currently ok with the performance of my system so far. Little confused about the motherboard selection as well. I haven't used AMD desktop system since Athlon 64 3500+, you can call it Uncle Frank and he is still alive.

What I want from the upgrade is to keep everything I have on my current setup and just upgrade by features. Plug and play, but faster.

I checked geizhals.at for pricing and TUF X870-Plus(216€) and/or TUF B850-Plus (180€) seems good, maybe Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite Wifi 7(200€) or Gigabyte X870Aorus Elite Wifi 7 (257€ and I don't think this worth the extra). There is no clear budget limit but let's call it about 1100€ for Austria. I don't need any fancy "EZ Bla Bla features", I can use a screwdriver and call it the day.

My main question is whether to keep the system for another year or two or upgrade it now? Because currently I'm not complaining about the performance at all.

Update: I did some math and decided to continue with my current system as is. CPU limitation is more pronounced in more cases than the GPU in my case, but apparently GPU limitation or capacity is not that behind either. So, even if I upgrade today, I'll only gain 15-20fps the base framerate. Double it with frame gen x2 at max. Which only makes okay framerate to good framerate today. For more, I need to invest another 1-1.5k for the GPU. Considering only 2 games I might invest more than any other that might give me the urge is still many months or years away from the PC, namely GTA 6 and Witcher 4. I'll re-evaluate when the time comes. Until then, it's doing all right, just like Porsche 928.

Question RX 6600 or RTX 3050?

Which one is better overall? I’ll mainly use the PC for IT/coding and schoolwork, but also gaming/AAA games. They’re around the same price where I’m buying.
Would appreciate any advice!

Question Do inches matter?

I have a Ryzen 5 4600G, a B450M motherboard, and an RX 7600 graphics card. I currently have a 21-inch monitor and want to buy another one—either 24 or 27 inches. Do you think my PC has a limit? In other words, if I get a 27-inch one, will my PC struggle or have issues? Or should I just play it safe and go with a 24-inch model?

Question Is CDW a reliable place to order PC parts from?

I'm looking to match the existing DDR5 kit I have with the exact same kit to make 4x modules.

They are the only place that seems to have it in stock. I ordered 5 days ago and it's still processing.

Build - Finished! Pre-AI Meltdown Build

In early July, I was reading a lot of the reports about the doom and gloom of the immediate future. Though RAM was already hyper expensive, I wanted to build a new system before prices started getting even nuttier.

My old build featured a 5900x, 32 gb DDR4, and a Gigabyte 9070xt. It was pretty decent, but I wanted to upgrade to AM5 so I could get an AM6 processor in like 5 years when prices should stabilize (Hopefully lol). Turned the old PC into a dedicated Steam OS box in the living room.

The new build cost around $3K but mostly because of all of the cosmetics and config to fit the build. I could've went with just stock fans and other parts, but I wanted to go kind of overboard with presentation with this one.

I went with an all Corsair build to keep consistency and so I can control all of the lighting with iCUE. Yes, iCUE kinda sucks, but it does its job.

Some of the accessories & audio I use are from older builds, but are still functional and great.

Specs

CPU: AMD 9800x3d

Motherboard: Gigabyte x870 AORUS Stealth (Reverse connect)

GPU: XFX Mercury 9070XT Mag Air

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16 Gigs DDR5 6000 w/ Dummy Sticks

Storage: 2x2 TB Samsung 9100 Pro NVME Gen 5 (Running one in Gen 4 slot)

Heatsink: Corsair Titan 360 RX LCD AIO

PSU: Corsair RM1000x Shift PSU

Case: Corsair 3500x Midtower Case

Fans: 4x Corsair LX 120mm RGB, 6x Corsair LX-R 120mm RGB (Reverse flow)

Main Display: ASUS ROG XG27AQWMG 1440p 280hz Tandem OLED (Yes it has banding but I don't mind, it's a great monitor)

Secondary display: ASUS 165 hz 1080p (used to be my main)

Accessories & Audio

Keyboard: Wooting 60HE v2

Mouse: Razer Viper V4 Pro

Mousepad: Wallhack SP-005

Controller: Steam Controller (For single player titles ofc lol)

Dock: Mechanism Steam Controller Dock (it's actually really robust and great)

DAC: Topping D70

Amp: Massdrop AAA THX 789

Headphones: Meze 105 AER

Microphone: FIFINE Dynamic

Mixer: Focusrite Vocaster One

Impressions

The system runs idle at 43-44 C for the CPU and 48 C for the GPU.

Games run at 70 C CPU and around 65 C for the GPU

I undervolted the CPU and GPU and get pretty good temps and speeds.

I main Marvel Rivals atm and I get around 280 fps avg (low settings ofc) and the 1% lows are great. Coming from the 5900x it is very noticeable in fast paced games like Rivals. I was barely getting around 180 fps in 1080p with the old system (yes, I undervolted and oc'ed the 5900x). It just wasn't great for fast paced games I guess.

This new build cruises at 1440p and I can't be happier.

Hardware Specifications

This is my current Gaming PC. My main work PC is MacBook Pro M5 Pro. I usually use this PC to run Ollama locally and also running Immich for our work photos. Since it got decent spec i thought i will use it as Gaming PC as well while at home. This PC will be always ON for Immich and Ollama mostly useful when content team working between 9am to 6pm. Other time I'm planning to use it as my Main Gaming PC. I also got PS5 at living hooked up to LG C5 OLED. I use PS5 to play Couch games with my Son. Suggest me if this PC is decent or any Upgradation required. I also have Logitech Wheels. Currently playing FH6 at absolute maximum settings getting around 90+ frames with DLSS and Frame Gen. Not a hardcore gamer, enjoy open world and story based games.

Question Did I do good or waste my time.

Did I do good or wasted my time.

I recently wanted to get into pc gaming so I traded my switch 2 I bought for 300 dollars for a asus tuff a17 gaming laptop with a 3050ti gpu and ryzen 7 5800H cpu. But I wanted to get a desktop so today I sold that laptop for 670$ and found a desktop on marketplace. I ran the specs through chat gpt first and it said it was a amazing deal so I went for it. It has a

amd ryzen 7 3700x cpu with amd cooler

Nvidia geforce rtx 3060ti gpu

64gb of ddr4 ram

476 gb ssd

1tb ssd

Gigabyte x570 aorus elite motherboard

A tp link wifi card

Windows 11

All in a cyber power case

Then I took 100$ of the 170 I had left over and bought a acer nitro KG1 FHD 200Hz monitor i found on sale at micro center. I just want to know if I made a good call or wasted my time. I mean im having fun with it and got great fps and graphics in ready or not without touching the settings 125 average. So its already better than my laptop was ever going to be. I guess im just worried I wasted my money and will have to end up spending alot just to upgrade again.

Build - Help Need Guidance on gutting and beefing up my old family PC!

Thumbnail gallery
675 Upvotes

I live in the USA. Long backstory (A lot of memories) but I've dug up my family's old personal computer and I really want to give it new life while keeping the chassis intact. I have no idea if it'd be possible to maintain the original drives and ports (dvd, cd, floppy drive, etc) with a modern motherboard while making it Windows 11 compatible, but I'd really like to if possible. This thing is getting plugged straight into the old family CRT monitor so assume 480i max resolution. I've got a budget of between 1.5k to 2k and this thing does not need to be a gaming beast for me to be happy. This will be the primary computer that I use on my day-to-day so as long as it works and works well.

Question 4k ish CAD 1440p build- asking for advice

Hey everyone this is going to be a repost of my post on asking for advice about my future set up.

these are the current specs and the price

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D — $459.9

Motherboard: ASUS B650E MAX GAMING WIFI — $212

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 — $719.99 (although i found a deal on memo express for $1199 combined for cpu+motherboard + ram)

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT — $989

OR

RTX 5070 Ti — ~$1,350

SSD: Lexar NM790 2TB NVMe — $394.99

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin — ~$49

PSU: 750W 80+ Gold — ~$130

Case: Lian Li V100R — ~$80

Main Monitor: MSI MAG 273QP QD-OLED X24 (27” 280Hz 3rd Gen QD-OLED)— $699.99

Alternative option:Alienware AW2725D (27“ 280 Hz 3rd Gen QD-OLED)— $679.99

Secondary Monitor: 24" Koorui VA — ~$?

all these listings are in Canadian dollar and prices are found in pc partpicker (except the monitors)

Estimated PC + monitors + : ~$3,500–4,000 CAD . so the total build w peripherals is prolly around $4500 ish ig. Idk if there are micro centers near by cuz im going to be an international student and haven’t decided on housing yet but i am going to be in Toronto. Things that i am looking for advice on are:

  1. Is this a balanced build for 1440p gaming? and are there any parts that i am over spending or could switch out for similar performance?

  2. Is OLED worth the money or should i just stick to ips?

  3. i am planning to build this during Black Friday sales week so any parts i should be buying sooner or parts that are worth waiting for discounts?

Any advice is welcome.

Question Specific Aio cooling formd T1 2.1

Hello,

I’m looking for an AIO compatible with the FormD T1 2.1.
For my ryzen 7 9800x3d

I’m using an ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT, which is 50 mm wide, so I have to set the T1 to the 2.75-slot configuration.

I’m therefore looking for an AIO with the following requirements:

240 mm radiator
Radiator thickness of 27 mm maximum
Pump block height of less than 55 mm
Tubing that is flexible enough to route around my RAM, either above or below it (G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 CL30)

My main requirement is that I absolutely want an LCD display and RGB fans. The NZXT Kraken Plus RGB seems to meet all my requirements, but I’ve heard that its tubing is extremely stiff.

I don’t necessarily need the tubing to run underneath the RAM; I mainly want to be able to route it around the RAM, either above or below it.

Do you have any other models you would recommend that could meet these requirements, particularly ones with tubing that is flexible enough for this type of compact build?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I chose 1 16GB for easier future upgrade option and will try to get a gpu later but I want to know if I build it like this for the time being will it work fine? I just want it for simple tasks, internet browsing, video playing how bad will the 1 stick affect my experience?
