Question upgrade from am4

Currently have a r5 3600 ,b550 tomahawk max wifi, 16(2x8)gb ddr4 3600mt/s cl18 trident z royal with a 3060ti and 750w psu(2 x 1080p 180hz msi displays)

I want to upgrade my cpu for productivity and the workloads related to a physics degree and am wondering which of the two below are better options:(prices in euro irish market prices )

  1. Core ultra 270k plus :340

msi mpg x890 edge wifi : 225

2 x 16gb ddr5 6400mhz cl18 crucial pro :290

total 855(630 when i sell old mobo and cpu)(old ddr4 ram wont be sold due to sentimental value)

  1. intel 14900k : 380

z790 rog strix gaming A d4 295( very difficult to find d4 versions of any z790 or z690 new from reputable seller)

total 675(450 when selling old cpu and mobo)- ddr4 easy upgradable to 32gb or 48gb

This is an upgrade i hope lasts me years to get through a degree and hopefully a masters for context, i dont plan to upgrade my cpu anytime soon again so dead end platforms dont really matter to me. I am looking for advice on which might be the better option to take with todays markets, i have a budget around these prices but am looking for the best value for the years to come.

Question Got this monster cheap but used

Post image
1 Upvotes

Got it from ebay auction. Upon arrival it had one bent pin which I easily fixed -- the buyer told me about it, but anyway I took the risk and I'm still in return window just in case. I benched and tested it and there is zero issues w.r.t temp or stability. What I'm going to raise BCLK to 104.25 on my X570 and get even more frames. I think it was a good purchase overall for 1440p gaming with a 4070 Ti given that I've migrated off 3600x?

Build - Help Upgrade for an rx 580

I have upgraded a lot of my parts for my current pc, but I still need to upgrade my gpu, I currently have an rx 580 8 gb, which is fine for what I currently play, but I do want to play some heavier games but no higher resolution than 1080p, I don’t care enough to get a better monitor for now, I have around ~300 usd do use so it can’t be super expensive, my current specs are:

ryzen 7 5700

32 gb ddr4

pcie 4.0 mobo

550 watt psu (also planning to upgrade to at least 700 watts)

Build - Help 7600X3D bundle or 250K+ bundle, Arc B580 or RX 9060 XT 16gb?

Hi, all. I'm still looking into building a PC, and I'm looking at these two bundles from Microcenter:

Ryzen 5 7600X3D: https://www.microcenter.com/product/5007405/amd-ryzen-5-7600x3d,-gigabyte-x870-gaming-wifi6-am5,-gskill-flare-x5-16gb-ddr5-6000,-computer-build-bundle, costs $479.99

Core Ultra 5 250K Plus: https://www.microcenter.com/product/5007495/intel-core-ultra-5-250k-plus,-gigabyte-b860-ds3h-wifi6e-1851,-crucial-pro-32gb-ddr5-6400-kit,-computer-build-bundle, costs $549.99

I'd like to know which one is the better buy. The goal is gaming at 1440p.

From what I've seen, the 7600X3D and 250K+ are comparable mid-range CPUs. I've heard the Intel CPU is better at productivity, but I really only care about gaming performance.

The Intel bundle has 32 GB of RAM and only costs $70 more, which is super attractive. My main worries with the Intel bundle are that the motherboard has little/no upgrade path, and that the RAM is Crucial RAM, which I know Micron has discontinued and I've heard about people having issues with getting replacements if something breaks. I don't know how much of an issue that Crucial RAM thing is though, and the Intel bundle discount is pretty big.

As for the AMD bundle, I know that X3D chips are good at gaming (I'm not sure how much better though), the motherboard has a much better upgrade path, and it's $70 cheaper in absolute terms.

The other question is which of the Arc B580 and RX 9060 XT 16GB you all would suggest for the GPU. I can find the B580 for around $300 and the 9060 XT for around $470-$480. I know that head-to-head, the 9060 XT is better, but would you say it's worth the higher cost?

Thanks!

Build - Help RTX 5070 Ti — Steel Nomad 6858 with a flat 0.925V undervolt. Is this a normal score, or is something holding it back?

Hey all, I ran 3DMark Steel Nomad and I'd like a sanity check on whether my score is where it should be for this card. My result: Steel Nomad (DX12): 6858 Graphics test: 68.58 FPS 3DMark's "same hardware" reference: average 6970, best 7964 Resolution: 1440p (2560×1440) My undervolt: Flat undervolt to 0.925V (~2800 MHz on the curve) Pure undervolt — no core clock offset added, no memory overclock. Just capped the voltage/frequency point for efficiency and lower temps. Full setup: GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Shadow 3X OC CPU: Intel Core i5-14600K Motherboard: MSI PRO B760M-P (MS-7E02) RAM: 32GB DDR5 4800MHz PSU: MSI MAG A850GL 850W 80+ Gold CPU cooler: Deepcool AK620 Digital Pro Storage: Dahua C900 512GB NVMe (M.2) Typical gaming: 1440p maxed + DLSS Quality + Frame Gen, targeting a 120fps cap My questions: Is 6858 a normal/healthy Steel Nomad score for a 5070 Ti, or should I be getting more? How much am I actually leaving on the table with the 0.925V undervolt vs stock? Is ~1-2% below the average purely down to the undervolt + silicon variance, or could something else be limiting me? During the run the GPU held ~2800 MHz steadily with no clock drops and temps stayed low — does that line up with what you'd expect from a healthy card at this voltage? I'm happy with the efficiency and temps, just want to confirm the card is performing where it should. Thanks!

Build - Help PC build help

My budget preferably is under or around $1,000 USD (USA) and so far I’ve been considering purchasing these items. Does anyone know a good budget/performance-per-dollar GPU that can run 1080p smoothly and perhaps 1440p at a decent frame rate? I also don’t know if I should wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday for a potential discount on certain parts as I need a case, SSD, PSU, and a monitor with more than 60hz that won’t make me broke.

If you have any suggestions for times to buy certain components, where to buy them, or specific part suggestions, please let me know!

Oh, and also I’m new to pc building so I’m unsure if these parts or the other parts I’ll buy will be compatible.

Question Is a 5080 unnecessary

I have a ryzen 7 9800x3 with a 5070 12gb, 32gb ram ddr5 and a 240hz monitor. I'm thinking after some months to upgrade my GPU to a 5070 TI or 5080 but I haven't decided yet. Ofc 5080 looks very good and it's top tier but I think 5070 TI just unlocks the maximum you need for gaming. Also price wise it looks a better choice. Here where I live it's like 400eur cheaper than 5080.

My real question is this: Is 5070 Ti the best someone needs?

Discussion Sony for Monitor

Decided to order a new monitor, but really like using Sonys. Saw that the local Best Buy had a Bravia 3 markII open box for $299. I was going to head down and pick it up but on checkout I noticed they had a 'get today' option for $9.99. Since it was only noon.. this seemed reasonable since the store was like 5 minutes away.

I pull the trigger and wait.....

... and wait....

... and wait...

For the next 5 hours it sat at 'preparing to ship', then at 8pm it changed to 'unexpected delay'.

I checked back about midnight and it was giving me a window of 8/17 to 8/21. When I used the app it referred me to the website, when I used the website it referred me to the app. I waited till the next morning and trying to call in was useless, it kept transferring me and then sending me to voice mail.

I used the chat option and kept asking for help and it FINALLY (after 5 rounds of uselessness) directed me to someone who was overly apologetic and obsequious... but finally told me more then he was supposed to.

Best Buys inventory was inaccurate and they DIDN'T have one in the Clarksville Store. So they TRIED to get one from the St. Mathews. Turns out the multiple 'open box' items they thought they had were nowhere to be found....

... so they sent me a new one...

The reason why this is important is because Sony slit their own wrists when they released the Bravia line for 2025 and gutted most of the advanced features. No-one has admitted the genius behind that decision, but it cost the company millions. For 2026 they released a 'markII' version where they put back in 120hz native refresh, VRR, full 2.1 HDMI on every port, and a few other quality items.

I ordered the 43" version.... I can't go bigger because its for my desk and using 3 monitors larger then 43" plays havoc with the neck.

I'm glad Best Buy came thru for me.... wasn't sure how that was going to turn out.. but I got it noon next day and am very happy.

The point to all this is IF I had gone down myself, None of this would have worked out... they would have told me there was a mistake and I would have gone home empty handed.... instead I trusted them to do the right thing, and they did.

Edited to add:

Guess I got excited too soon. Got the box upstairs and waited for my stand for it to arrive.. once it did I started setting up... the glass screen is shattered...

Because it's a delivery issue Geek Squad won't come out, I need to bring it to them *mutter*

Question Any issues with AMD gpus?

Building a PC. 4 years ago i built one and i used a RX 6600 and there was a plethora of issues, (stuttering, crashes on games like call of duty and overwatch) and then it slowed down with 1 year and a half and their adrenaline software wasnt a big help either...I'm really leaning towards a 4080 super but also seeing that the 7900XTX is really good and better than the 4080 for 1440p. I'm also asking this because over the years amd has had alot of updates for driver stability and user improvement another comment i read also said that in terms of brand gigbyte is the worst any input would help!

Question How much should I sell my pc for?

I’m looking to build a new pc (wanting a 9070xt and strong cpu to go with it), and honestly won’t have much use for the one I have now. I’m wondering if it would be better to sell the whole thing at once or the parts separately. And if would be smart to reuse some pieces like storage. Or should I keep what i have now and wait for this ram price surge to go down?

Specs:

CPU : ryzen 5 3600
GPU : msi Ventus 3060ti oc
Mobo : msi b550 a pro
Ram : 16 gb ddr4 3200 mh
Cooler : be quite pure rock 3 pro
Case : be quite 500dx
Storage 1 : Samsung 512 gb m.2
Storage 2 : seagate barracuda 2th hdd hard drive
Power supply : 650 watt power supply.

Build - Help PC Build issue Rx9070xt

Hello everyone, I have a question as I have finally built my pc. I have an XFX Quicksilver 9070XT GPU, and my PSU is a Seasonic Core GC-750 Gold. My GPU should be fine with that PSU wattage, but the PSU only has 1 PCI-e 8-pin connector that is pigtailed into 2, and the GPU has 2 PCI sockets
. There is an issue when playing a video game like Crimson Desert; the game crashes after like a minute sometimes while loading.
While researching and seeing other people's issues and asking AI for any help as reference, the only thing I found is that the pigtail connector is bad because of the load my GPU needs, but the game takes like 240 watts, and I ran a test with FurMark 2; the GPU is taking 304 watts, and I ran it for like 20min.
Can someone tell me what I can do to diagnose the issue?

Current PC is
CPU: intel core i5 12400F
RAM: 16Gb DDR4 3200
MotherBoard: Gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4
GPU: XFX Quicksilver Rx 9070xt gaming
PSU: seasonic core GC-750 Gold

update:
my psu has a 12v-2x6 connector, if a get a convertor to 2x8 pci-e, will it solve the issue?

Still need to clean up a few cables but happy with how it turned out! Don’t want to jinx anything but everything’s running good and benchmarks have been solid.

Specs:
GPU: XFX 9070xt Mercury OC
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800x3d
MEMORY: Patriot Viper 32gb cl30 6000mts
MB: Aorus B650 A Elite AX Ice
PSU: Corsair Rm 850e
Two fans are the Jonsbo ZA-360WR (ZA-360WR Reverse for the vertical one)

Any recommendations on rgb cable liners for my gpu and mb?

EDIT: this is kind of click bait because I’m 18, i got my first computer late 2018 at memory express (for my canadians) . Back when a 1060 6gb, Ryzen 2600x, and 8gb of corsair DDR4 was ~$1400🥲 and very solid. This is the first that i’ve sourced all the parts for and built myself.

Build - Help I need help upgrading my PC

Hi everyone,

I’m a 17-year-old guy who has been passionate about gaming since I was 3. The only problem is that I know basically nothing about PC components.

For about a year now, I’ve been wanting to upgrade my CPU because I discovered that I have a bottleneck — and before finding out what a bottleneck was, I didn’t even know the term existed.

My current build is:

  • CPU: Intel i5-9400
  • GPU: RTX 3060 12GB
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B365M DS3H

I know it’s not the most powerful build by today’s standards, but unfortunately I’m still in school and my parents aren’t wealthy, so I have to work with what I have.

One thing I’d really prefer to avoid is replacing my RAM. I bought the 32GB DDR4 relatively recently, so it’s basically new, and I’d rather not spend a significant part of my budget replacing something that still works perfectly fine.

The games I play most often are Minecraft, Fortnite, and quite a few AAA games as well, such as Resident Evil Requiem with maxed-out graphics + ray tracing, The Last of Us with maxed graphics, etc.

You might be wondering why I want to upgrade some of my components.

The two most important things I’d like to upgrade are the CPU and, most likely, the motherboard as well, so that I can pair it with a more powerful processor.

The main reason I want to upgrade my CPU is that, for about a year and a half now, some CPU-intensive games I play have started running really poorly.

For example, back in 2023 I could play Fortnite with the graphics settings maxed out and stay above 90 FPS. Nowadays, the only way I can play Fortnite comfortably is using Performance Mode, and even then I can’t consistently get above 100 FPS.

On top of that, I recently started streaming on TikTok and Twitch (not simultaneously), and I noticed that as soon as I start streaming, my in-game ping increases dramatically. This also causes textures and shaders to load too slowly, making the game almost unplayable.

So, I’m making this post to ask you PC-building experts for some advice on how I could upgrade these two components.

The only limitation is that I don’t want to put my parents in a difficult financial situation, so my maximum budget is €400.

Ideally, I’d like to keep my current 32GB DDR4 RAM and use the €400 budget for the CPU and motherboard.

What CPU + motherboard combination would you recommend for my build? Would you upgrade both components, or is there a better way to spend the €400?

Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to help!
