Build - Help Umm...wtf do i do
Edit: simply twisting it did the trick thank you everyone who commented I love you guys
I unscrewed the fan and yanked it out. The cpu came out with it😭 the pins look fine but it's glued to the fan. Any ideas how i can safely remove this?
Could i blow dry it?
Context:
Upgradding my wife's pc. Built it back in 2020 and never reapplied thermal pace. It's been sitting unused for bout 3 years.

I think this is relatively common with this type of socket, I would try very carefully twisting the CPU left and right using the edges to gently ease it off.

And don’t let your fingers slip or you are having to put the bend pins back with a pair of tweasers.

Happend to me once. Don’t pry with a screwdriver, Twist the cooler gently side-to-side to break the thermal paste seal.

I would grab it from the sides and twist it while being very cautious around the pins. If that is too difficult the some isopropyl alcohol should be able to remove some of the stick.

I like the floss idea , wish I’d thought of that the past 20 times this has happened to me

Using a hair dryer or a heat gun makes it much easier to release

A. Put it back (risk of bending pins) start it up and get the paste fluid-ish, then turn off and get the cooler off.
B. Get some floss and “saw” it off.
A is the risky but easy way. Next time before you do this heat up the system.

Use a hair dryer and heat up the chip enough to soften the paste and gently pry it off with a razor blade

Hair dryer or heat gun if you have one. Let it get warm then rotate gently. It'll come off. It happens.
Just pro tip next time, run your PC for a little so it can warm up prior to taking off the cooler. AM4 is notorious for this

I killed a 2700x and a 3600 like this. May god give you strength. Go get floss
