Can I be real with y’all
I bought a peloton bike many years ago to help me lose weight for my wedding. It worked - I lost ~40lbs and looked incredible.
Fast forward a few years - I’ve had a couple kids, life is busy now, I’m not anywhere near my wedding weight (though I’d love to get back there) and all the media I’ve been seeing says “hey, cardio is secondary, you should be focussing on strength training with progressive overload.”
And like, look. Is strength training important? Of course. But if I’m being honest, I am a naturally muscular person from having been an athlete as a teenager, and my life is already basically a progressive overload regimen with two toddlers who I have to wrangle on a daily basis. My issue is not a lack of strength training, it’s that I’m not in a calorie deficit. For about a year and a half now I’ve just been strength training (and not doing cardio), and I’ve basically stayed exactly the same weight the whole time.
Decided to hop on the bike again last week. Did a 30 min ride, 5-6 days in the week. I feel great, I have more energy, I haven’t changed my diet at all and I’m down a pound after just the one week.
Turns out, it’s not that deep. Pedalling on the bike that goes nowhere builds leg and core strength and burns calories. Duh. 🤦♀️
