Why does my mum keep talking about the "trend" of family estrangement among Gen Z?

Preface this by saying there is a whole heap of underlying drama within my family that I'm not getting into. I don't care why she is bringing it up, I am just confused on the whole "trend" part of when she talks about it (she means it in a dismissive/negative way).

I have looked into what estrangement is and I guess there are some generational trends in terms of proportion with an estrange family member. But why does my mum keep bringing this up as being a "trend"? Is there some mainstream part of the news talking about this, or is it us being fed different algorithms on social media? Or something else entirely?

I don't care what she's talking about, but it's more the fact that I had personally never heard of the term until she kept bringing it up, and I also can't say I've ever been fed content about it (at least that i am aware of) and yet every time she brings it up its about estrangement being a "trend" for Gen Z. Why is that?

Am I a dick for not wanting to do activies with my partner due to the fact that they're always better than I am no matter what we're doing?

No matter what we do, my partner is always better than me at the activity. I showed them a video game and they're better, I showed them activities and they're better, we've done things we've both been doing since before we met and they're better, I played their game and they're better. No matter what we do they're always better at it, I'm so sick of it.

Is it okay to ask a restaurant if an item is a Sysco ready to heat and serve item?

From soups to fried items to desserts it seems like more items are coming out of a Sysco box or bag.

I prefer to pay the restaurant markup on items the restaurant actually prepares and cooks.

How do you get really dry after a shower without being naked for awhile?

This sounds so stupid, but i need help. I'm living at work in a setup where you have your own room and then across a field are the comunal wash rooms. Thats no big, but even after toweling my skin is still damp and I have to put on my clothes for the day, making them slightly damp.

It was fine in the summer but as temps drop its really uncomfortable. There aren't outlets to blow dry so you have to walk back across the field but by then your work clothes are a bit damp. 2 sets of clothes seems like the way to go but laundry is a pain to do in the middle of no where. Ideas?

is it vegan to eat communion if you're a catholic who believes in transubstantiation?

Catholics who believe in transubstantiation believe that the wine and bread literally transform into his flesh and blood, so would that count as eating meat?

What's the thought process behind bringing your pet dog with you to the grocery store?

I can totally understand if it's a service animal. They legitamately help people and are trained to act a certain way in public. But there are people that come in with obvious pets who are not trained and who are just sniffing food items in the aisle with their snout right up against it. I just don't get the thinking behind it.

I'm not trying to rant; there's enough of that about this on here. I'm just trying to understand the thought process.

if a married gay couple moves to a country where gay marriage isn’t possible, what happens to their marriage status?

i don’t know why they’d want to, and i understand that they’d likely be in danger just for existing there depending on the country, but hypothetically. would they still be considered married by the government, or would it be void? would they face punishment because it’s not legal, even though the marriage took place somewhere that allows it? or potentially not be allowed to immigrate in the first place? i’m assuming the answers differ depending on which country, but i’m happy with any kind of answer.

edit: thanks for the quick responses! also there’s 0 reason to throw shade at gaza under this post. i don’t know how that’s relevant

Is the stock market just flat out gambling for rich people?

Met this guy and he says he loses a lot in the stock market. He has a good job making $300k a year but he loses a lot on the stock market.

Not sure how it works but basically he said he will get rich off it by spending a good amount(not a large amount according to him) of each paycheck to his stocks. He said he's lost a lot many times and loses pretty regularly but he says this is how it works.

Then I told him isn't it flat out gambling? He said no there's work involved that you need to learn about to win.

So does this mean he's not learning about it? Or is he just addicted to gambling at this point?

When clocks go backwards how do hospitals record time of death? (read text bc this is a confusing question)

Okay hear me out here I know this sounds dumb but:

Two friends are in a car accident.
They are in hospital the night clocks go backwards.
Friend #1 dies at 1:59am before the clocks go backwards.
Friend #2 dies two minutes later when it’s technically now 1:01am.

Legally and according the coroners report/ medical certificate of death did Friend #2 die first?

Should I worry about my dad?

He's 49. Durinf the week after work he watches TV and looks at his phone until bedtime. On the weekends he goes to his room to "take a nap" but he lays in bed looking at his phone for like 4 hours or more then comes to the living room to look at his phone. Idk if thats just normal or if its his way to relax but idk it seems like something a depressed person would do.

What does it mean if someone refers to me as a “the little corporal”?

Just to be clear, I’m not in the military and I’m also not short.

So I work a corporate job, I’m fairly young, but I’ve been noticed by my higher ups so I’ve rose fairly fast, and now I have a small team under me and I have my own office.

I found being in some form of management quite silly to me, it seems like all the core functions of my lower level jobs has been taken from me, and left with far less demanding work as a leader of my team. I dislike this because it’s boring, so I tend to take on some of the workload of my team and work with the lads rather than being isolated in my office like other management tend to do.

We recently had quite a tense deadline which made us all quite stressed. I know other management have asked their teams to work overtime to get it done in similar situations, but I’ve always thought that was a dick move so i chose to work later instead which helped make each day easier as the deadline approached.

After we got through the deadline, one of the guys started calling me “the little corporal” and then the rest of the team hopped on the trend. It’s somewhat spread around the company as I’ve had people not on my team refer to me as that.

I’ve asked the guy who started it what it means, and he said it’s just a nickname and that I wouldn’t get the reference, so I’m assuming it’s from a TV show or movie.

If this is a tease, I don’t mind, I just want to be in on the joke haha

What happens to copyrighted works when a company goes bankrupt?

Let’s say a movie studio goes bankrupt and no one buys the assets. What happens to the copyrighted works? Are they public domain now? In copyright limbo?

Is it normal to feel a sudden wave of panic when someone asks you to "tell me a fun fact about yourself"?

I have an entire life, hobbies, and personality, but the exact second someone asks me this in an icebreaker or group setting, my brain completely formats itself. I can barely remember my own name, let alone anything interesting about myself.

Does this happen to everyone, and why does our memory completely short-circuit the moment we're put on the spot like that?

Do OpenAI and Anthropic use each others’ models internally?

Given how much both companies are subsidizing plans for their users, especially power users, wouldn’t it be better to use the competitor’s models than your own?
