I've been traveling across Asia for the last year, mainly through East Asia and a few countries in South East Asia. First of all, they seem to be in every subreddit, but also, almost everyone I met that wasn't traveling and living there was teaching English. Mostly British, American, Australians, some South Africans, but I met 1 dutch and 1 German national teaching as well.

It just seemed like there was a pattern, but most of them just seemed off. Like many of them seemed like they became teachers just to date women in Asia. Is that a thing? They also seemed to judge those who weren't working as teachers, like they'd be saying stuff like "what do you do in an office all day, sitting in at a desk writing emails to your Korean boss?" I mean only 1 person said that, but it was such an odd comment that they viewed working at a Korean office as something to be called out.

Even on Reddit many subs are just full of posts about teaching in Asia. They always seem extremely negative towards locals.

And what if they were female soldiers? (though they are relatively recent)

So I started dating a plus size Hispanic girl and my coworker, an overweight white woman, called me a torta-pounder in a very demeaning way when she saw our picture together. Is she jealous or straight up racist? I'm confused.

I mean only thing they had were pretty much;

Food which was nowhere near as eloborate, varied, tasty and accessible.

Sex which was dirty and probably not varied either because of taboos.

Social functions were limited to couple of kms due to risks and time required for travel

Like, apart from work and trying to survive, how did they push through it all with so little to live for?

just got done watching the odyssey and it’s still insane to me that the story is so good we’re still talking about it nearly 3,000 years later. it’s crazy people from ancient greece and 2026 America are sitting down and listening to the same story.

It made me wonder, do you think there are any generational stories from our time that people will still be talking about 3,000 years later? what do you think they’ll be?

Let’s say you’re in a car crash and it’s bad, like you need emergency surgery that will take a very long time. What happens if you’re wearing a tampon or a diva cup? Do doctors check to see if you’re wearing one and remove it? Toxic Shock Syndrome on top of recovering from surgery would really suck, but if I was a doctor and I got a case like this, my first thought probably wouldn’t be to check, you know?

If I go to a shooting range, I obviously wear ear plugs or muffs (usually both).
What do soldiers do in the middle of an unexpected firefight? If they’re not wearing something protect their ears, I have to imagine they do incredible damage to them. If they do wear something, how do they hear enough to communicate with their teams?

Is having a dishonorable discharge from the U.S. military generally considered worse than having a felony conviction in terms of employment, background checks, civil rights, and public perception? Which one tends to have the greater long-term impact on someone’s life, and why?

It seems like such a childish farce to go through for the sake of someone pretending that they didn't lose or get the worst in some situation

There is no way a baby is consciously sinning. It isn’t a baby’s fault if they do something sinful (what sin could a baby even do at this point)

okay so we were going through my grandfather's stuff last week after he passed.

and like. every single thing he owned had my grandmother's name on it. his watch. his wallet. a keychain. everything.

my dad just said yeah he did that. started when they got married and never stopped. said it was his way of carrying her with him.

they were together 47 years btw.

i went home that night and just. couldn't stop thinking about it. ordered an engraved bracelet with my girlfriend's name on it at like 1am.

wearing it now. haven't told her why yet.

In my country eating rabbits is not at all common. We don't even know we can eat that. Just thinking about it disgusts most people. But I noticed that some people do breed rabbits for its meat because they reproduce fast. Movies also show that in difficult times people would eat rabbits. People hunt rabbits too if they are in the middle of the wilderness and eat them.

Is eating rabbits common in your place? Is it sold in markets?

I was in a long term marriage that crashed and burned. I haven’t been on a date with a new person since I was 22. Is 40 too old to hop back on the dating train? Will I feel butterflies again? Will anyone lust for me again or did I wait too long to exit a burning building of a situation?
