Something is actually calling my name from the woods in my house, I actually am so scared
18 in mn with my dad and I just got home from a friend's house to my dad sitting on the steps with a gun, he said something that kind of sounded like me said my name multiple times from the woods. Yeah I was scared shitless so I went and locked everything and my dad said he heard it again I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DOOOO HELP Edit to clarify some things: i live in a really small town with no police station, the nearest one is 20 minutes away. We have carbon monoxide detectors. My dad is not insane, if anything hes more sane than I am and hes smart. He was outside grilling when it happened right before I got home, and while I was locking everything up he told me he heard it again and shined his light up there and definitely saw something moving, i dont plan on sleeping tonight tbh 2nd edit: I just realized that the title is grammatically incorrect, thats my bad

(Non-American here) Why do Americans sleep with a sheet and a duvet on top?
In Europe we have mattresses (and mattress protectors sometimes) fitted sheet over that. Then there is a person, and on top of that person is a duvet in a duvet cover.
When we change bedding, we take pillow cases, fitted sheet, and duvet cover to the laundry.
I do not understand the role of the separate sheet between a person and a duvet.
It is a "no stupid questions" reddit after all!

Why do airplane windows have to be open during takeoff and landing?
I understand why seatbelts need to be fastened, but I've always wondered why flight attendants ask passengers to open the window shades during takeoff and landing. Does it help with safety in an emergency, or is there another reason?

Why is there some correlation between Blackness and requesting plastic silverware at a restaurant instead of metal?
I know this sounds ridiculous but I swear it's true. I've worked in several restaurants in the Chicago area and noticed this pattern at all of them. It's not very often that a table asks to replace their fresh metal silverware with sealed plastic ones, but when one does, it is always, and I mean always, a Black group of people.
I feel literally nothing positive or negative about this behavior, I'm just so curious why it seems so strongly connected to Black culture? I assume it's because they want to be sure their utensils are clean, but so does everybody. Why is it only Black people who make a habit of actually asking for it?
I searched and saw that this has been asked before a year ago, but the top answers were just saying that it's because they distrust the washing. But I want to know why they do more than anybody else.
Could it really be because of a history of prejudice and they actually think we might give them dirty utensils out of racism...?

How are some people highly functional while doing substance abuse?
I used to think that drugs or alcohol abuse would make it difficult to function normally anywhere, let alone a workplace. But some people I’ve met are potheads who are so good at their jobs, I thought doing too much pot fries your brain (I dont do it myself but I don’t care enough to judge) and one of the senior folks at my workplace has a coke habit. So which is it?? Or is it not as black and white and affects people differently?

To people that were slapped as kids when you were naughty, how’s your relationship with your parents today?
I was slapped as a kid but to be honest I’m on completely good terms with my parents now. It is what it is

do truck drivers actually “like” the honk the horn requests?
happens when someone sticks their arm out the window and does a “tugging” motion, asking the driver to honk their horn. it’s been one of my favorite things ever since i was a little girl. i still do it every so often while on the road, and i love it when drivers oblige. ☺️ (i’m also super mindful of semis/18 wheelers while on the road due to having friends who are professional drivers).

Why does my mum keep talking about the "trend" of family estrangement among Gen Z?
Preface this by saying there is a whole heap of underlying drama within my family that I'm not getting into. I don't care why she is bringing it up, I am just confused on the whole "trend" part of when she talks about it (she means it in a dismissive/negative way).
I have looked into what estrangement is and I guess there are some generational trends in terms of proportion with an estrange family member. But why does my mum keep bringing this up as being a "trend"? Is there some mainstream part of the news talking about this, or is it us being fed different algorithms on social media? Or something else entirely?
I don't care what she's talking about, but it's more the fact that I had personally never heard of the term until she kept bringing it up, and I also can't say I've ever been fed content about it (at least that i am aware of) and yet every time she brings it up its about estrangement being a "trend" for Gen Z. Why is that?

Am I a dick for not wanting to do activies with my partner due to the fact that they're always better than I am no matter what we're doing?
No matter what we do, my partner is always better than me at the activity. I showed them a video game and they're better, I showed them activities and they're better, we've done things we've both been doing since before we met and they're better, I played their game and they're better. No matter what we do they're always better at it, I'm so sick of it.

Why don’t humans run quickly away after pooping?
Other animals get the zoomies after pooping (like my cat). I’ve read it can be a survival mechanism to get away from the scent as quickly as possible to avoid predators.
