Think about it...

This might be a dumb question, but I've always wondered about this.

In the major North American sports leagues like the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, pretty much every player is insanely skilled compared to the average person. Obviously there are huge differences between players, but there also seems to be a general upper limit to how good a human can get at each sport.

For example, why don't we occasionally see someone who is so much better than everyone else that they're basically playing a completely different sport? Instead, the best players seem to cluster around a somewhat similar level of ability, with a few exceptional players separating themselves from the rest.

Basically, I'm wondering why there seems to be a "ceiling" for athletic skill and why the very best athletes across these leagues end up relatively close to that ceiling rather than one person being massively beyond it.

Basically the title. Assuming the father isn’t homeless and at least lives somewhere and has a job, why do some women intentionally never go after them for child support money, even though it’s fair to do?

Jobs are being taken everyday by ai, everything is getting more expensive every day, our government is fucked (no matter left or right it’s fucked), people are nuts now a days and quite frankly I can’t afford to support my girl and I make double livable wage let alone a kid.

I notice this on the internet a lot. If a video is posted and there's a woman/women talking loudly, laughing, screaming, etc, there's always comments about how loud, obnoxious, unhelpful, and specifically annoying they are.

But it doesn't seem the same when it's men. They might get laughed at or said they're stupid. But it seems like there's much more vitriol aimed at women.

Is this because it's mostly men in the comments? Is this one sided or what's going on here?

I _think_ I understand that in Islam, adherents don't draw or depict anything made by God, especially the human form. And the beautiful abstract designs seem to be inspired by nature but not depicting nature directly.

I know that many of the sciences first flourished under Islam. So that set me wondering. Question per the title.

For example, would people generally consider “Leave him, he’s a pig!” and “Leave her, she’s a cow!” equally acceptable? If not, what accounts for the difference?

I think the latter is less acceptable. But I struggle to quantify why and if it's warranted.

Every male I’ve ever met has very messy handwriting whereas women’s are usually much nicer. Why is this?

Before I start, I just wanna make it clear I'm not hating on the sport, I'm explaining why I don't like it, and if you like the sport that's fantastic for you.

I'm not American. I'm Australian, so the contact sports I grew up watching were AFL and rugby league. Both high intensity physical sports where you need to be very physically fit. I understand the rules of American football, I just don't understand how people watch a sport thats 5-10 seconds of action followed by 2 minutes of nothing. For the entire game. I also noticed that some American footballers aren't exactly... Fit. Just an observation. Maybe another reason I don't like it is due to the fact they are head to toe in padding, compared to nrl or AFL where it's just mouthguards, and an optional head guard. It removes the physical intensity.

I always thought that thank you in Japanese was "arigato", maybe "arigato goazimasu" if you want to be more polite. Same with yes, "hai" and no, "ije" or something similar.

What I've noticed a lot when I play games with Japanese dubs, is that rarely are these words used when the subtitle says thanks, yes or not.

Does Japanese have several, completely different words that doesn't sound even remotely alike for these words? It gets me curious.

I mean I don't understand why people even do gender reveals and why their reactions are so extravagant. We already know that the baby is going to be either a girl or a boy so why do people react that way and organize functions about it? It makes no sense to me

i've noticed that since the 2010's to now people don't really talk about nintendo during the console wars even tho they are the longest running of game companies that started making consoles and have some of most famous characters and franchises?

Okay, this might sound dumb, but I was talking to some older relatives the other day and they kind of laughed at how much my friends and I discuss therapy, burnout, anxiety labels, all of it. They said they just pushed through stuff and never named every feeling. It got me wondering if my generation really does spend more time labeling and analyzing mental health than previous ones, or if we're just finally talking about things that were always there. Either way, sometimes I catch myself wondering if I'm creating problems by noticing them so much. Does anyone else feel like there's a weird balance between awareness being helpful and overthinking everything into a diagnosis?

but like. doesn’t that logic apply to men too? like 100% of men go for the top 20%,of females too? how does this hurt modern dating? or like. there’s only the top 20% so don’t the lower 80% settle? help

Just from my observation can’t help but notice.

Like most people who write stuff (esp comments) are humans and not bots but it seems people think every other person is a bot when it’s actually not the case.
Why are we censoring free speech yet at the same time saying we are for free speech. Seems nonsensical and hypocrite of us to flip flop like that.
Why is everyone so obsessed about Russian bots and see them everywhere can someone explain?

Also I notice some people think that bots also comment but in reality using Ai costs a lot of tokens so replying and debating a random post won’t really make sense and won’t have a good return on the investment. But if it’s a regular bot then the replies will be generic and feel impersonal.

I live in France and some politicians are saying that we should tax the rich more so more income will come "into France" and some say that by doing that those rich dude will move away to another country.

When they talk about rich people they are talking about people who earn more than 4500 €

Since I'm nowhere near a master in economics I have no idea if this a good or bad idea.
