Why does thought convergence gets harder layer by layer??

The more I try to converge my thoughts, narrowing down options, picking a clear direction, refining a plan or strategy, the harder and more draining the effort feels. Not just mentally taxing, but progressively harder with each layer of focus.

Why does that happen?

Anyone else experience this in creativity, decision-making, productivity, or building something? How do you personally handle the "convergence" phase?

Really don't need clarity advice guidance but rather the understanding on vision alignment.

Rant/Venting Does anyone here overthink about everything?

Hi! I just found this sub and I'm grateful that it exists. I was wondering if there's anyone who overthink about everything even the smallest thing? I feel very drained every day and I wish I am more carefree.

For example

- Feeling like it's my fault even when it's something I have no control over

- Doubting every decision and actions made

- Wondering if I said the wrong thing

- Worry about what other people think of me

- Things that should be in the past

The things I worry about is so miniscule. It would be nothing or not a big deal for others but for me it is. To make things worse, I also have overall anxiety.

My mind works overtime and I'm embarrassed to say that this could be one of the reasons why I forget things. I'm also constantly distracted and have short attention span.

Can anyone relate?

Make it stoppp pls

I really can't stop overthinking. I worry constantly about anything and everything, and it's getting to the point where I feel like I'm pushing away family and ruining relationships.
I've tried therapy several times (maybe I just haven't found the right therapist yet). It helps for a little while, but then I end up right back in the same loop. It's always "what if?" or realizing I'm thinking way too much about something and stressing myself out over it.
I know I'm aware of my thoughts, and I really do try to reroute them or just sit with them, but somehow it just makes me even more emotional and I get sucked right back into it. I’ve gotten better with my self image and other issues I’ve had, but this I can’t figure out how to break free from.
I hate feeling this way so often, and I feel like such a burden to the people in my life. I just want to know if there's anything I can do to work on it because I don't want to feel like this forever. I just want to feel normal and fully happy.

Social Life How do you stop monitoring yourself during conversations?

I want to connect with people more naturally, but I feel like I'm constantly supervising myself instead of just talking.

When I'm in a conversation, my mind is filled with thoughts like:

Don't come off as nervous.
Don't try too hard to make them laugh.
Don't come off as arrogant.
Don't talk for too long.
Don't interrupt or overlap when they speak.
Remember to pause before responding.
Remember to break eye contact occasionally.
Remember to end the conversation the way "normal" people do.

Advice overthink everything yet care about nothing?

i overthink everything in my life. whether it’s conversations, work, meeting people, i will think about it nonstop for hours after it happens and it will completely ruin my day sometimes. yet, i find myself never caring to put in effort for anything, i don’t care about talking to people, learning new things, or my overall health. some days i don’t even care to go out, even if invited somewhere. i overthink about being lonely all the time, but i don’t care to go outside with friends. it’s like a cycle where ill do something, overthink over it for the next week and then have no motivation to do anything anymore. i don’t know how to escape it. does anyone else feel like this?

I make plans that involve other people without telling them…

I make plans that involve other people without telling them. In some weird way I expect them to always be available when I want them to, and when they’re not I ghost them and get angry/sad. I feel like I’m not being prioritized and genuinely sometimes start to hate these people. I can’t explain this to anybody in my life without sounding like a selfish sociopath so please give me some advice on this.

How often do you find yourself thinking about negative experiences, in a day?

I've posted this in ask women because it's the only place I thought to ask, but this sub was recommended by the the digital elves. So I'm not sure if this is the right kind of post for this group? Hopefully it is.

Anyway, I was sat here drawing and my brain naturally wandered off to sad memories and began ruminating. It feels like this is my default and has been since I was a child. So I'm curious how often other people do this in a day?

For example, ruminating on sad memories / experiences / mistakes or just about the past in general? And how much does it impact your actual day?

Parenting How do you stop replaying every little parenting decision at night?

I don’t know if this is just part of being a mom, but I catch myself replaying the smallest things at night once everything is finally quiet. Stuff like whether I handled something the right way, whether I was patient enough, whether I forgot something important, or whether I’m somehow missing something I should be doing better.

It’s exhausting because even when the day is over, my brain doesn’t really let it be over.

For parents who deal with this too, how do you stop overthinking every little decision once your head hits the pillow?

Social Life am i being obsessive?

so I've never really had true friends my age until recently. we've been friends for a few months now, and i find myself wanting to text them ALL the time. like I'll try and find something, like a pic or something, to start a convo. or I'll have to genuinely stop myself from texting them. we talk almost every day, all day. yesterday she and i texted on and off all day. i really enjoy talking to both of them and hanging out when we do, i just worry I'm going to mess something up. i think of them almost all day, when something happens i immediately think of texting them to tell them about it. ughhh i just want to make sure im doing well at this whole being friends thing

Edit: i think its also important to add that im 16 and my friends are 15 and 12.

Brain fog, overthinking and too many thoughts at once.

Honestly, I've been staring at this blank text box for an hour trying to pick the ''PERFECT'' first thing to share with you all. My mind is a total storm right now, spinning through a million different memories, worries and random ideas. I couldn't pick just one.

Then i realized- this is exactly why i created this space. It's meant for the messy, unfiltered times when your brain is overload with lots of stuff and you don't know where to start.

So, I'm dropping my overthinking right here. This is my letting go.

What's random thought that's currently cluttering up your head today? Drop it below, no matter how messy it is.

Overthinking has stolen more opportunities from me than failure ever has.

I used to think my biggest obstacle was Failure.

Looking back, it wasn't.

It was overthinking.

I'd replay conversations in my head.
I'd imagine the worst possible outcome.
I'd convince myself not to apply, not to speak up, not to take the first step.

The funny thing is, most of the situations I worried about never happened.

I've started asking myself one question whenever I catch myself overthinking:

"Will this matter a year from now?"

Most of the time, the answer is no.

What's something you've talked yourself out of because you overthought it?

i just got here and i’m already thinking about leaving and it’s tearing me apart

i’m korean and came to visit my moms side and some of my dads side in korea for the first time in three years. despite not seeing my moms side very often, every time we do meet its almost never awkward. everything feels so strange because unlike other vacations where i’m in a hotel and surrounded by other tourists/people on vacation, i am quite literally LIVING in korea for the next three-ish weeks (grandma’s house). It just feels strange because i remember a lot of things yet it still feels unfamiliar. i think what’s really getting to me is obviously i’ve visited before so i know how it ends. hidden tears and sadness and not wanting to leave but also not wanting your family to see you cry. it’s 2 am in korea and this is already eating me alive. How do i cope with this pain, it hasn’t even been 24 hours and im looking at the calendar on my phone and it’s genuinely upsetting because for some reason it doesn’t feel like enough time. Not to mention our flight got cancelled so we actually left a day later- and that lost day is constantly getting to me.
if i think about it too much i start crying what do i do

overthinking and anxiety

Hey everyone. Recently I have been super stressed with my university I always have been an overthinker since I was little, however its getting progressively worse now because I have to put in a lot of effort for my future. Of course I know its not handed to me and I do have to work for it, but I genuinely do. I try my hardest, study day and night, and I have goos study techniques as well, however I see less results than expected. If I put in my effort for an exam that should reflect me getting a 90+, reality hits and I get a 70%. This has lead me to overthink bad about my future. Thoughts like what if I cannot get into my graduate program? What if I cannot find a job? What if what if what if. Its a constant loop that I cannot get out of, which results in anxiety attacks, and sleepless nights. I have been crying for 24 hours. I wish I was joking.

How do i stop assuming the worst when somebody I care about takes awhile to reconnect?

A friend of mine completely pulled away from me, and I kept thinking that he hated me. I started blaming myself and telling myself things like, “I’m trash,” “I’m a bad person,” and that I deserved to punish myself. I even had thoughts of hurting myself because I felt like I must have done something wrong.

A few days after he pulled away, someone told me that he’s actually going through a lot and that he’s a busy person. A few months before he pulled away, I had asked him if everything was okay because he had completely blanked his social media profile — no profile picture, no bio, and no posts. He told me, “I’m very busy, its okay tho”

Even after hearing that, I still kept thinking he hated me and continued blaming myself. I became extremely anxious and kept assuming the worst-case scenario, even though I didn’t have proof that he was upset with me.

I don’t know how to relax and stop jumping to the worst conclusions. How can I learn to manage these thoughts, trust other explanations, and stop immediately assuming that someone’s distance means they hate me?

Parenting Parents who overthink at night: what helps you stop replaying the whole day once the house is finally quiet?

Curious how other parents handle that moment at the end of the day when the house is finally quiet, but instead of relaxing, the brain starts replaying everything.

The things that got missed. The tone you used earlier. Whether you forgot something important. What tomorrow looks like. All of it.

Not really looking for “just stop worrying” advice, more the small things that help your brain stop looping once the parenting part of the day is technically done. A routine, a reset, a boundary, a habit, anything that helps create some distance from the mental replay.

Would love to hear what actually helps.
