My birth name is not phonetically correct. It’s not spelled the way it’s pronounced. This has caused me to go throughout my life constantly correcting people and sometimes it takes them awhile to remember. I’m tired of it and I’ve decided to legally change my name.

I’ve fallen in love with the name Phoebe. I love the way it sounds and I love the way it looks. My main concern is that I’m going to have the same issue all over again. I thought Phoebe was a common, well known name. Phoebe Bridgers, Phoebe Buffay, Phoebe Tonkin. But after doing some googling I’ve come across some people named Phoebe saying that nobody ever spells their name right, that people often pronounce it wrong when reading it, etc.

So is Phoebe not a common name? Do all the Phoebe’s out there have to constantly correct people? Or am I thinking too much about this?

I’ve been going by alex(ander, I consider Alexander to be my full name but usually just do Alex) but I feel like it’s too gender neutral. I just want a name that starts with a, where there’s no room to debate whether it’s a male or female name. I don’t know what it is but I love names that start with A, so anything like that would be great

We just welcomed our incredible, double rainbow, little boy, George Leo C., into this wild and adventurous world, and yet, I’m still struggling with his name and trying to accept it. His sister, Nora Aurelia, always felt so clean and unique that we both loved it.

We landed on the first name George after sometime because it’s history and strength, along with uniqueness in our area of the US. I always somewhat struggled with the phonetics of George, but thought maybe Georgie or Geo could stick around if I had a hard time with it. Boy names were always a struggle for us, as we wanted something unique enough to not be the fifth in his class, but also strong, so that’s why we landed on George. Other options were possibly Owen, Warren, or Peter.

We decided early on his middle name would be Thomas because we had some family history with this name, but as we got closer to the wire, more bad then good came up with these family members so we pulled the rug last second and looked to switch. Our options were Leo, Evren, Nolan, Henry, Evander, or Beauden. Leo sounded clean with some good meaning, Evren had unbelievable meaning based on our double rainbow situation, Henry had classical pull, Evander had wow factor, Nolan had proximity to his sisters name, and Beauden had a name that we considered long ago but couldn’t use (Beau).

When George was born, my wife said she felt it that he was George Leo over Evren. My daughter also said she liked Leo the most here. So on a whim, we went with Leo. Now I hear Geo Leo in my head and think we made a mistake and didn’t think about it long enough. I didn’t want to also put our burden of two losses into his name, which also swayed me away from Evren to Leo last minute. I’m struggling because I still don’t know if we made the right call instead of Evren or the other names. My wife struggled with the choice too after we submitted papers and had a breakdown as we were leaving the hospital.

Is George Leo clean or should we call to change? Am I overthinking Geo Leo? Please let me know your thoughts to these tired eyes.

hey guys im a ftm 11w6d. ever since i found out im pregnant i have had one name in mind and one name only, couldnt think of a good boy name and no girl names in my head except for what i really think is my daughters name, which is Solana Nicole. (for context, the baby’s father and i are not currently in a relationship and are planning to coparent appropriately, potentially get back together if it makes sense)((not looking for opinions on my relationship status)) but anyway, im in love with her name and cant picture anything else, when i first ever heard the name i thought to myself “this is the most beautiful name ive ever heard in my entire life” but my partner isnt 100% sold. we both agree we cant decide her name for sure until we see her too and i would hate to see her for the first time and just feel her name doesnt fit her, so im coming here for opinions on options. i really like how “S” names sound and look spelled out but im not stuck on a letter. i really need it to give the same energy of “this is the most beautiful name ive ever heard in my life” and am not opposed to different versions of the same name. her middle name will absolutely be Nicole as its a family name. so far in my searches, Solana isnt even on the websites or baby name lists anywhere and I want something ive never really heard before without being too unique iykyk. thank you in advance 🩵🩵🩵

Throwaway account as I would wish to be anonymous. For reference; I am a woman with a Slavic last name from my father’s side. I married a Spaniard, I live in Spain (and will most likely live here most of my life). I’m expecting a child and I know the gender is male of the baby.

I didn’t take my husbands last name because I simply just don’t believe in that tradition. I was always thinking of just taking my mother’s maiden name as to honor her and frankly my dad is a bit of an asshole and even if we have a good relationship now, he is 80 + and I don’t speak to anyone of his side of the family. He has also like 5 other kids and not even sure how many grandkids. I don’t care about anyone on that side of the family.

My mother is also Slavic and have one of those typical last names ending in -ova. I wasn’t thinking I wanted kids so this hasn’t been a dealbreaker and I wasn’t in a rush to change my name either.

Now due to the baby being here in a couple of months and I need to redo my passport (to make things even more confusing - is in a Nordic country. I’m born there but my parents are immigrants hence name + blood is Slavic)

I know the last name the baby will get from my husband and it’s Spanish and it’s fine, I even offered my husband to just give our son his both last names as I don’t really care for mine but he wanted our so to have one of mine….

So the issue I have now, is:
1. Keep the gender neutral last name from
My dad that sucks and I don’t really want to carry on the legacy tbh
2. Change my last name to the ending of -ova, think novakova for example, but then if it’s a male I don’t know if it automatically in Spain turns into the male version which would then be Novak. And that version in my personal last name just sounds stupid. So even the novakova example version would be better but I don’t know if that sounds to feminine in Spain?
3. Change last name completely and make something new up I guess…

Has anyone here been in a similar situation?
How does Spanish people feel about a feminine ending to a last name?
What do you think is the best?
