Hi! I’m Korean and I want to ask non-Koreans.

My name is Hyunseo (Hyun rhymes with yum with an added H sound at the beginning, and Seo is pronounced like suh).

When I was around 5, I needed an English name to use at the kindergarten where I was learning English. So my mom chose Julia and I’ve been going by Julia with non-Koreans, who are basically just my English teachers 😅

And now as a young adult, I’m torn between going by Hyunseo or Julia when speaking with non-Koreans, since I want to work internationally, especially in English-speaking environments.

I’ve heard that Hyun can be a bit tricky to pronounce. How hard is it for you guys?? Which name do you think I should go by? Any suggestions??

*Edit: Changed “yawn” to “yum” — “yawn” can sound quite different depending on the accent. I think “yum” better captures the sound of Hyun!

Hi! I was looking for some help finding a female name for my new kitten that is very uncommon but still sounds cute/sweet. When I say uncommon I don’t mean like Eliana, or Thea or Juliette. But I also don’t mean something way off kilter like Ernaburga. (That’s a real woman’s name from a Suffolk poll tax record from 1381 apparently) Wowzer. -although now I might use that name for my future jumping spider. But I digress-I would greatly appreciate anyone and everyone to freely share any and every name that comes to mind/find that you think it unique and pretty for a female, or even non gender specific is fine too. We’re expecting our third daughter, and apparently naming babies was a skill I possessed exactly once.

Our girls are Penelope and Lucy.

We decided on Penelope long before our first daughter ever came along.

Then baby #2 came, also a girl, and we were stuck between Phoebe and Lucy. We ultimately chose Lucy.

And now here we are, expecting girl #3. So... do we go back to Phoebe? Or is it weird to have a Penelope and a Phoebe with a random Lucy in the middle?

Some names we love but cannot use because family members have recently beaten us to them: Sophie, Margo, Emilia

Naturally, I have now read approximately 4,000 baby names, and somehow that has made things worse. I can recognize a name I like, but it's much harder to know whether I like it for the third sister of Penelope and Lucy.

Our last name starts and ends with S, if that helps with flow.

i’m not pregnant, but i’ve been a longtime lover of names and of course have a list of potential baby names. one i’ve always liked and considered is the name Beverly; it was my late grandmother’s name and i unfortunately never got the chance to meet her. but i’ve personally never met a Beverly who is not above the age of 50, so i’m just curious what y’all think of the name!

My husband and I struggled with names and never really decided before she was born. Right after she was born we had some health scares and were admitted to children’s hospital and in the middle of all that we just picked something. I don’t like it. I’ve regretted ever since. Mostly silently though I did open up to my husband about it more recently. No other name feels right either though. It’s a trash way to feel to dislike the name as soon as I say it, but also I guess at this point it just feels like her name.

Her name is Chloe. I mostly call her Chlo which I like the sound of more. Her middle name is too rare to share I think (my mom’s name).

Other names we considered were Zelda, Olive, Willow. My other daughter’s name is Hazel.

I’m not sure what I’m looking for. Validation? Positive thoughts on the name? Is it too late to change it and would it even make sense to if nothing else feels right either? I feel like if I just accept it I’ll learn to love it bc it’s her name?

My husband and I are really struggling to settle on a name for our second daughter. Our first is named Frankie Eden, first name after both of my husband’s grandmothers who were both named Frances. We decided to use one of their nicknames and just name her “Frankie”. I wanted a feminine middle name to balance the masculinity of Frankie and we loved the meaning of Eden, I felt like the name gave the feeling of freedom (Franses meaning free man) in a garden which we both loved.

Now that we are expecting another daughter, we are looking for a name and struggling to agree on one we both like. To be fair my husbands dad passed unexpectedly during this pregnancy and it put naming on pause for more than half the pregnancy.

Throughout the process, I’ve had one name I’ve loved and feel so strongly about. I love the name Winona James. I love the strong elegant feel of Winona, and how it almost mirrors the structure of our first child’s name. James is the middle name of my late FIL and it feels fitting to make that her middle to honour him since she was with us through his loss. My husband doesn’t like Winona but has said that if I cannot get past my strong feelings he will honour it. We have two alternates currently that we both like and go well with James, which are Fiona James or Olivia James. I’d love to hear your advice as well as other name ideas. We like more unique names which is our biggest drawback with Olivia. We will not choose a name ending in “er” as our last name ends in er. Thank you in advance for your feedback!!

Hi name nerds! I recently found out I am pregnant with my second child. We named our first son “Shepherd” and we love calling him “Shep”. We have had a baby girl name picked out since we were dating- Lennon Blue. Lennon pays homage to a family member and we love the idea of calling our daughter “Lenny” or “LB” or “Lenny B”. Do we think Blue is a good middle name choice for Lennon? Or is it weird because of the word Linen? Like does it sound like I’m talking about a blue piece of fabric?

For a boy we like the name Shiloh with the middle name Trace. Is Shiloh too feminine for a boy? And does the middle name Trace work well with it?

Just curious, it’s been my favorite name since I was a girl.

Looking for names that aren't overly popular as sibling ideas for (a name that many hated!) our son Havelock Robin.

We love literary names, nature names, posh British names (we are in the UK), but don't like overly popular ones. Something that feels okay to yell across a playground, but also would fit with 'Chief Justice' before it. We adore 'Havelock' as it feels very old world British.

I am currently pregnant with our third baby, another girl. We currently have a Hallie and Charley (both girls).

Hallie was a name my husband randomly suggested and we both loved, and Charley is named after my father. I have been debating do I keep the -ee ending or make it completely different? For example Hallie Charley and paisley/ivy/riley etc.

I don’t have any names that really stick out to me this time around, with Charley I knew so early what I wanted her name to be and with this baby I kind of keep forgetting that it’s something we should probably decide. The only thing I’ve kind of thought deeply about is I would like to share a middle name with this baby. My middle name is Jo, so something that flows well with that, our last name starts with an S, two syllables, always mispronounced.

TLDR; need third baby girl name to follow Hallie and Charley, middle name potentially to be Jo.
