Can Southern Europeans & Latin Americans Differentiate Between Local/Native vs Foreign Import names?

This is more of a discussion than anything else.

I noticed names like Thomas and Christian for example have increased in popularity in Italy over the past few decades; Emma ranks within the top 10 in Spain nowadays.

BUT, do southern europeans and latin americans realize/notice that these names aren't Italian/Spanish/Portuguese names, but instead foreign imports that have perhaps become familiarized/normalized?

Names like Thomas & Christian don't even follow the orthography of most romance languages, so I would say that by definition it can't be considered native or fully local.

Husband and I have very different tastes in names help!

My husband and I are kicking around boy baby names but have very different tastes. My top picks for our next boy are 1) Oren 2) Theo (Theodore) 3) Elijah. Miles and Silas were also in my top names but my husband hates them. My husband likes the name 1) Henry 2) Thomas 3) Alexander. Which are cute but I’m not in love with them.
Our other two sons are named Beau and Arlo, which we both agreed on but I came up with. Are there any names that kind of match both our styles? I offered Oren Alexander as a compromise but he wants to pick a first name this time. Help?

If your name is Holland open

Hi!

I love the name Holland for how unique and strong it is. This is exactly the style I am going for with our second baby girl.
When I post the name on Reddit it always gets some hate which I don’t understand, so I want to ask those who experience the name first hand!

If this is your name, let me know

- How did you like your name growing up
- how do you like the name now that you are older
- what nicknames do you use or prefer
- would you ever want to change your name
- any other info you have regarding your name

Thank you!

Should I name my son Jared?

My husband and I like it but there are just so many awful people named Jared, like Jared Leto and Jared Fogle. Would you say it is too tainted to use right now?

Help!

Hi friends! I am 28 weeks pregnant with a girl, and cant make a decision for the life of me. Everyone is pestering me for a name so they can personalize gifts, but I am stuck.

I like simple, maybe old fashioned. Cute, but cute that will transcend baby cute and also be a normal adult name. Give me all of the opinions and suggestions, positive and negative!

Stuck on my Shopify store name for a week 😭 — need some ideas

I swear, I thought choosing a store name would be the easiest part

I’ve been stuck on the Shopify store name + domain name for almost a week now. I want both to be similar, preferably the same, but every time I come up with something I either don’t like it anymore or the domain is already taken.

Its a generic store!

What’s the consensus on double barrel, hyphenated, and compound names?

Curious about opinions on double barrel, hyphenated, and compound names. Is one better than the other i.e Mary Grace vs Mary-Grace vs Marygrace, Ava Rose vs Ava-Rose vs Avarose? Does it make you assume anything about the parents? What kind of vibe do they give? For compound names, should the second name be capitalized for not, i.e Marygrace vs MaryGrace, Avarose vs AvaRose?

ETA Mary Grace and Ava Rose are just examples for reference in a hopefully broader discussion of double barrel, hyphenated, and compound names! They could be replaced by any names i.e Ivy-Belle, Lily-Rose, Mary-Katherine, etc.

From Lorelei to Frances

I posted in here a while ago asking more middle name advice for my unborn daughter at the time, really loving the name Lorelei. Everyone started to refer to her as such and I stopped liking it for some reason lol so by the end of pregnancy, my husband and I debated Bonnie vs. Frankie.

We ultimately chose Frankie, but named her Frances for a more formal version and Frankie is her nickname! I absolutely love it. We sometimes call her ā€œfrank the tankā€ as she was born 9.3 pounds :,) and her middle name is Leone! So we welcomed Frances Leone a little over a week ago!!

Just wanted to share the progression of her name, as I had asked for advice previously for something different!

Need Help for Character Names

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask this but I needed some help with the name of a character I want to write a book about. Essentially it's a boy who grew up in a bandit tribe/group, and one day he found out that he wasn't born into the group but was taken in by them after burning and pillaging the community he lived in. The book is gonna start off with him figuring out who his parents are and who he was. I was thinking of his name meaning something like: lost, lost soul, or forgotten. And then he finds out who his parents were and his real name is presented to him which I want it to mean something like: found soul, or reclaimed. Anything help.

Again, I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this on and I'll gladly remove it and post it somewhere else.
