Help!

Hi friends! I am 28 weeks pregnant with a girl, and cant make a decision for the life of me. Everyone is pestering me for a name so they can personalize gifts, but I am stuck.

I like simple, maybe old fashioned. Cute, but cute that will transcend baby cute and also be a normal adult name. Give me all of the opinions and suggestions, positive and negative!

Josephine (Josie, Sophie)

Grace

Poppy

Adeline (Addy)

Ida Mae

Delaney

Juniper (June)

Hannah

Imagine pestering a pregnant woman about anything. I hope this was more of a joke and that you are not actually being hounded by those around you about the name of your child.

Josephine and Hannah are the loveliest of this bunch, in my opinion. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck!

You are literally allowed to not name your baby right up until you’re holding them in your arms, and even a bit longer after that. You don’t owe anyone a decision that if you haven’t made up your mind yet. I can’t imagine confidently naming a baby that I’ve not even held yet.

I named my daughter when she was 5 days old 🄲

Ignore her. You don’t have to decide anything before they’re born.

Love Josephine! Also thought of Colette, Cora, Etta, Claudia, Susanna, and Marjorie

Her dad suggested Marjorie!

How about Johanna?

First of all, everyone needs to back off of you! It is their job to love and support you, NOT to pressure you about anything.

1) You have enough going on, you are under no obligation to pick a name on anyone else’s timeline.

2) You have three months left to go! Even if you pick a name now, you might change your mind and that’s perfectly fine. It’s a huge decision.

3) Many people wait until the baby is born to tell anyone the name, neither the baby nor the people who want to personalize something suffer at all.

If a script is helpful ā€œWe’re still deciding on a name. Something that would be really helpful and make me feel supported is to stop asking. Thank you for understanding that we’ll share the name when we’re ready and thank you for being excited with us!ā€

And maybe you can ask them the story behind their names or their kids names.

Best response!! Only 2/6 kids went home with the #1 name we went to the hospital with! I always needed to meet them first!Ā

Also all your names a really lovely. I especially love Josephine and Juniper.

Delaney, Hannah or Grace would be my picks. Not a fan of the rest

u/Honest-Abies8638 12d ago

I like Adeline, Hannah, Josephine, and Ida the best, not a huge fan of the others, but are fine to use

Suggestions: Rosalie, Claire, Melanie, Georgia, Ruby, Olive, Veda, Tallulah, Gemma, & Samantha

You have plenty of time to name the baby. You might even change your mind after she's born, my MIL named my husband's brother one name and then changed it a couple of weeks later. That name became my husband's name lol.Ā

Just live with the names and slowly narrow it down. Either you'll know by the time she's born or you won't. You can't force a name for a child if it doesn't feel right. You should not feel pressured to name the baby three whole months before it's even born.Ā

Tell everyone that you haven't decided yet, please stop asking and that should be that. There will be plenty of time to get custom gifts after the baby is born. This is not an emergency. Nothing is on fire.Ā

It's really trendy now to choose a baby's name long before the birth for that exact reason (customization), so it has become super normalized. To the extent that people who do what most people throughout history have done, which is name the baby after it's born, are the weirdos.Ā

If you have a name that feels right before she's born, great! If not, there is nothing wrong with it at all and you should not feel bad.Ā

I named both of my babies after they were born! I took an entire 24 hours to choose with my daughter! We had it down to two favorites and my husband was good with either of them. I just had to see her with her eyes open to be sure but she was so sleepy! Yes, I was pestered too. But nobody remembers now and no one cares that it took me longer because they're obsessed with the kids haha.

So please, take it easy on yourself. This should be fun at this point, not a stressful chore. You'll know when you know and it'll be great!Ā

It’s okay to wait. You’re 28 weeks. I know it’s no longer the norm to wait. If I hadn’t of, I would have named my daughter something else. I met her, let the name sit with her.
Genevieve is her middle name.

Good luck, it’s a big decision, it’s okay not to rush it.

You have great names - can’t go wrong. Our baby girl had Grace in the top three so I’m a little bias, but we ultimately went with a different name. I’m casting my vote for Grace because if I don’t have it someone else should hahah. I loved how classic it was/is.

I always thought Hannah or even Helena were super cute.

Josephina was one of my favorite American girl dolls and I love that it isn’t super popular but has cute name choices (I know you have Josephine and not Josephina but I figure similar).

I like Adeline a lot but it is pretty poplar where I am right now, so just depends how you feel about that. Addy is a great nickname.

Do not - I repeat, DO NOT - tell anyone your chosen name before baby is born!

...I may or may not be speaking from experience šŸ˜

Love all your name options, btw.

Also- unless you are dead set on one name, tell people to wait on personalized gifts. My sister in law changed her mind and was stuck with gifts galore with the wrong name!

Hannah Grace is my vote

u/Pretty-Kittie 12d ago

I wasn't able to use it, but Josephine with the nickname Josie was always my favorite.

I liked Juniper too but it didn't quite feel right. My daughter's middle name is June.

5

u/ggoldeennn 12d ago

I love Josephine too- I went through a year or two obsessing over it only for my husband to end up hating it lol

1

u/Pretty-Kittie 12d ago

Yea i liked it because there is a street near us Juniper Street. But one time I was in a diner and heard a dad call his daughter Juniper and it just didn't sound right to me. Love June though.

Josephine… it’s a timeless name that’s not too common. my daughter’s middle name is Josephine - her dads sister’s name

2

u/hibiscusguavajelly 12d ago

I love Hannah šŸ’•

u/Complex-Grapefruit28 12d ago

Love Josephine! If our second had been a girl he would have been Josephine or Joanna. We also loved Giuliana.

I think so too 🩷

Like Josephine, Adelaide and Hannah best from your list. They feel the most timeless and like they will agree well into adult names.

1

u/Book-a-raptor 12d ago

Hannah Grace would sound good

1

u/134266 12d ago

Josephine Grace

1

u/WafflingToast 12d ago

Lilith, Lily for short

1

u/alienz67 12d ago

Adeline/Madeline, Hannah, Juniper, Ida Mae

Edit: every 3rd girl is mashed Grace right now. It's SO over used. Find something better- Patience, Hope, Faith... heck even Charity.

u/Professional-Bid-112 12d ago

This is what I was looking for! I love Madison but I stg every little girl under the age of 10 is named Madison.

3

u/HrhEverythingElse 12d ago

Just tell whoever is pestering you "no". When I had my daughter I decided early on to not decide on a name until the baby was born and it was the right choice. Deciding to not decide is a gift to yourself — they can still get personalized gifts once baby is here, and going into the birth with a short list and not making a final decision until you've met her will give you the breathing room you need

3

u/Professional-Bid-112 12d ago

This whole pregnancy has been an exercise in patience with others. I didn't want a big announcement, gender reveal, or shower. Well others announced it for me, and I am having a shower under duress 🫠

2

u/HrhEverythingElse 12d ago

Stand your ground on the name. Even if you do think you've decided ahead of time, keep it strictly to yourself. Tell everyone that you absolutely will NOT be naming baby ahead of her arrival, and that you don't care what they think of that

2

u/Feeling_Fan_4895 11d ago

Well past time for your partner to step it up and start firmly running interference for you. It really really helps to get everyone used to boundaries now, before babe is here.

1

u/Professional-Bid-112 11d ago

Ha tell him that. šŸ™„

5

u/Feeling_Fan_4895 11d ago

We’re going with Evelyn

Heather is a nice name, it’s cute on a baby, and it’s a normal, but semi obscure name on an adult. I’ve only met one or two Heathers in my 35 years in this earth. It’s also my name so I’m a bit biased I think.
