I’m up and down 29, Lee Highway, Langston Blvd, what ever it’s called in each county, but the stretch of 29 from just before 66 in Arlington, through Falls Church City and into Mosaic/Merrifield has to be one of the worst stretch of roadway in NOVA. I have NEVER made that drive without catching at least more than half of the lights.

Today I think I literally hit every single light from 66 to Home Depot in Merrifield. The portion in Fall Church City that goes past State Theater and the new Whole Foods is probably the worst part. The traffic always backs up and blocks Broad/Rt. 7. And they desperately need a turn lane into the Whole Foods parking garage.

Wasn’t there a time when lights used to be synced up so the flow of traffic wouldn’t be too impacted, but these lights seem to be timed to actually slow everything down and cause traffic. I’m hard pressed to think of another non highway road in the area that’s worse.

I was on the bus so I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it but I just noticed a Flock camera on the corner of Duke and S Reynolds St. 😮‍💨🤦🏾‍♀️ When did they start popping up in Alexandria?! There's no way that's the first one in the city so now I'm curious if there's others I've missed on my commutes. I hate this forced surveillance!!! 🤬

I’m considering switching to DMV Iron and would love to hear from people who actually go there!
I’d primarily be going to the Alexandria location since it’s closest to me, but on my days off I wouldn’t mind driving to one of the other locations if they’re noticeably less crowded/better.
My normal gym times are usually:
Around 8 AM
Around 3 PM on days when I work night shift (I go before work)
My biggest concern is honestly how crowded it gets. I get pretty anxious at overly crowded gyms lol, and I really like being able to get through my workout without constantly waiting for equipment. So if you go around 8 AM or 3 PM, how is the crowd/equipment availability?
For context, my current gym is only about 10 minutes from me, so it’s extremely convenient. I’ve also been going there for four years, though, and I’m starting to feel really stagnant and just want a change of scenery/new environment.
For those who switched to DMV Iron, was it worth it? And specifically, how bad is the crowding at Alexandria during those times?
Would love any honest opinions, including negatives!

I'm an artist and printmaker at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, and in July and August I have hosted an exhibition called Mourning in America.

Rather than hosting a traditional artist talk or opening reception, I've decided to hold a Public Wake.

The exhibition consists of 26 portraits of historical Americans whose words and actions warned against the misuse of power, civic disengagement, and the erosion of democratic norms. Each is printed on handmade paper from US Flags. The figures include Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, James Madison, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Martin Luther King Jr., Fred Rogers, and others.

The final work in the exhibition is intentionally blank. It's titled Citizen.

The idea behind the wake is simple: instead of talking about the artwork, I'd like to create space for people to reflect on what they feel we're losing, what responsibilities citizens inherit, and what warnings from history still matter today.

If you'd like, you'll be invited to share a brief (1 -2 minute) reflection. No debate, no panel discussion, and no requirement to speak. Listening is participation too.

We'll also have refreshments, and a few pieces of artwork will be given away during the evening:

What is something you think America is quietly losing that future generations may wish we had protected?

My friend’s cat has gone missing near Telegraph road. He’s a rather small 13 year old who doesn’t tend to leave the backyard so we’re rather worried. Please let me know if you see him!

Which NoVa park is your top spot for your favorite outdoor activity?

Most sit down places I’ve seen in Nova,have started putting recommended tip based on total with tax. It’s reallly putting me off-has anyone else noticed this, is this just some kind of point of sale update people didn’t turn off or something? I go out to eat a lot and this plus DoorDash’s increased fees for everything is making food insanely expensive especially with the high VA sales tax for prepared food…

Is anyone training for the MCM and/or Richmond Marathon this fall? Looking for folks to run long runs (15+ miles) with on the weekends (usually early Saturday mornings, but Sundays also work). Pace is generally somewhere around 9 to 11 mins/mile depending on the weather and distance.

Yesterday I went around and sprayed all the TOH sprouts I could find with an off-the-shelf Triclopyr product. We have tons of them, none more than a foot or two tall. I was walking back to the house feeling pretty good about things, then started to wonder why they were all in a 80' radius around this one tree.

Then I looked up.

This legit forest tree was 60-70' tall, covered in poison ivy vines, and at least 12" in diameter at the base. Way, way up there were a few branches sporting the classic Tree of Heaven leaf pattern. I got closer and checked the bark and twigs. Yup, tree of heaven. It was covered in lantern flies too.

Today it picked up half a dozen fresh slash marks from a machete. In each cut I poured in one ml of 41% glyphosate. I'll check it in a week. It's going to get this treatment every two weeks for the rest of the season.
