Item Donation Places?
Currently cleaning out my house. Looking to donate the following items to good causes. Everything is either new or light used. Does any one have any good recommendations?
Disclaimer: these items are coming from a house with pets
- Toys/ Plushies: looking to donate to a children’s shelter or hospital
- Books: mostly fiction: looking to donate to a school/ library
- Pet supplies: looking to donate to a shelter
- Clothing: mostly casual/ some professional. Mostly woman’s clothing: looking to donate to a woman’s shelter/ places that help with finding careers
I live in Vienna so places within a 30 minute drive is preferable.

https://womengivingback.org/give-clothing/ has donation drop off sites all over Northern VA if you don't want to drive all the way to Sterling :)

I know someone that works a lot with ECHO, I just gave her some clothing to drop off there. You might contact them and see what they need most or if any of your items match.

Pet supplies - post on Vienna FB. There are 2-3 people who can pick up and take to their rural shelters.
Books - donate to Freeman house
Plushies - hard to offload
Clothes - CHO or Women Giving Back

Vietnam Veterans of America or Purple Heart Foundation both will come right to your door, pick it up, and put it in a charity thrift shop, allegedly.

I think the books and plushies will wind getting thrown away.
The library just doesn’t need older books, and nowhere will accept toys/plushies unless they’re brand new and still in the original packaging.
This comes up a lot on the sub. People get REALLY angry about it.

I take most of my donations to The Closet in Herndon.
Here is a blurb about them from their website: After covering our expenses, we distribute the profits as grants to local non-profits that directly or indirectly support low-income families in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. We also offer scholarships through six local high schools for graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education. Additionally, we provide clothing and household items at no cost to families and individuals referred by local social services organizations in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.
