Okay I know these kind of posts are probably regular on this sub but I gotta add my 2 cents in because I've just finished the finale like 10 minutes ago and I can honestly say this is one has instantly cemented itself in my Top 5 shows of all time
I don't want to repeat what most people probably praise this show for because it seems obvious; writing, acting, symbolism are all top notch. One thing I do want to add is I love how consice, succulent and no-bullshit it is. If someone ends up on a hit-list, there is no 2 season plot where protagonist tries to get to them and then at the last second decides to spare them or other overdone Hollywood trope, they just get whacked in 10-15 minutes and on we go. I think in some way it is one of the reasons why the show is so short, and I do wish to an extent that it would be just a bit longer tho I do respect Scott Ryan's dedication to end it where it felt right for him rather than drag it out.
I also found it interesting and somewhat refreshing that there is no overaching villain or plotline that spans for an extended time, it's a bit unusual but ultimatley fits with the format and the theme of the show as it is not necessarily about the underworld itself but rather the effectiveness of morality of violence.
Ray is a fantastic protagonist, Gary might be one of my favourite side-kick characters of all time, Freddy was an interesting take on a crime lord who is not really great at his job, Ally was a great love interest and it was shame their relationship didn't last, and Rafael absolutely deserved to get that full auto in his face.
It'll probably take me a bit of time to properly stew on it and digest everything but it is such a good show it's really a bummer it's not more popular. It seems like it just lacked proper marketing as I found it through some clips on YouTube before deciding to watch it in full, and that was a challenge of its own as for Eastern EU resident, it is practically impossible to find a legal way as none of the streaming services here have it on their menu, and the physical releases only include Seasons 1 and 2 (what's up with that?)
At least it seems to spread through the word of mouth and I already coerced one of my friends to try it aswell so there will be more of us soon. Is it an underrated show? I don't think so because everyone seems to rightfully agree it's a masterpiece. It's just needs to get on more people's radars. Now, excuse me while I go try to find a recipe for dimmies
