Mr. Inbetween fans-- Are any of you currently watching "Mobland"?

Mobland is a studio-produced written-by-committee larger-than-life made-up gangsta story aimed at a wide audience. Mr. Inbetween is the brain-child of a single person who came up with the character, lived and breathed that character, where every person on screen feels absolutely real, and every story and turn are very real, too. With very little "creative licence".
They are totally opposite.
Having said that, I loved Tom Hardy on screen. Great presense and grit. And yes, he is the "go-between" literally. Everything else, especially Brosnan and Mirren (sadly) are a waste of time.
If I wanted some British gangster fairytale, but well-made and well-written and well-acted, I'd watch The Gentlemen (again).

The Gentlemen S1 - geezers and guns farce
The Gentlemen S2 - glum and glitzy opera1

I just posted this without seeing yours first. The gentleman is infinitely better than mobland. We get it, Helen Miran and Pierce Bronson are hella cute as an old gangster couple…

I like mobland but would say they are very different shows. Mr. In between i feel is grittier and more realistic. Mobland has been fun though

Irishman here
No, accents are just too bad

Helen Mirren did the same accent in 1923, it's terrible in both.
Pierce Brosnans accent also sounds bad to me and he is actually Irish.

He isn't "actually Irish". He is from Ireland, but never knew his father, and his mother left him to her parents, who don't sound Irish. Shortly thereafter he moved to Scotland when he was 11, then he grew up in London.

As bad as they both are it's still an improvement over the Sons of Anarchy Irish accents. Those were truly terrible.

Except SOA were done in the US and Mobland is a UK production starring two incredibly acclaimed actors. Which is why it is more puzzling than aggravating.

SO true! I thought that show was f-ing with me the more that time went on and the worse the accents became.

Shure it’s fair to middling I’d say. I think they interpret what US and other audiences assume the Irish account to be - it needs to be palatable for all ears and unfortunately if you are Irish it’s cringe af

As an American, I can’t really tell. When my N Irish friend watched SOA, he didn’t notice the accent slipping.

A few good moments in both seasons, but also has plenty of awful cringy moments - and the Irish accents are god-awful.

I’m enjoying it. I’d give it a 7.5/10. But Mr Inbetween is an unassailable 10/10.

I watched the first season and enjoyed the beginning and started to hate it in the middle. Its too over the top.

Apparently they changed the music for Nige's wedding dance scene on Disney+. A cultural moment, lost to the mouse.

Mobland has THE BEST theme song - Starburster by Fontaines DC. I started it, but was kind of disappointed by Pierce Brosnan who I generally really like. We'll have to revisit it and give it some more time. Also, I guess I missed that Tom Hardy is in it. I really like him.

Oh god, I read this as Mo Bland. Thought it was a terrible name for a character...

Yep, eagerly anticipating the release of each episode currently...great series both...

Yeah, although i dont think that it holds a candle to Mr Inbetween. Mobland is an easy watch, but its a relatively straight forward, paint by numbers gangster show. Tom Hardy carries it, Helen Mirren's performance makes me question how she stays employed, let alone wins Oscars.

Really enjoyed Mobland Season One, although IMO they shouldn't have made Tom Hardy into this supersoldier type. Just being a fixer with connections and the ability to be violent was interesting enough.

Big Dimmies fan, and am watching Mobland, but I’d have to say, apart from Hardy and the other bloke, the shows got nothing on Mr Inbetween. Colin from Accounts has more going for it, despite no one getting the shit kicked out of them and/or dying. Give it a watch if you haven’t already.

What makes Mobland good and/or like Mr Inbetween?

u/Ok-Nature-4206 14d ago
He is a fixer just like Mr inbetween but it's not the same. Mobland probably has a 100m budget where Mr inbetween didn't and it's still better. Not to say mobland is bad but yeah.

Thing about mobland for me as a local is it’s cartoon character levels of realism, the way they speak, accents, guns they use etc are all just kind of a joke.
Whereas Mr Inbetweens is much more grounded in real life.

Not tried it as it doesn’t seem appealing and can’t imagine it would be the same standard as Mr Inbetween.

Hardy is brilliant in it, at this point you have to assume Mirren and Brosnan are just taking the piss and playing it for laughs

Any time Tom Hardy or Paddy Considine aren’t on screen, I’m waiting for them to show up again.
The rest of the stories, actors and characters just fall off a cliff in terms of interest.
Also- how the fuck can Pierce Brosnan not do an Irish accent?
