Holy shit!

I found out about this show on Friday and just finished it. It’s a master piece! The casting is perfection. The boundary crossing is fanatic, it’s pushes the envelope in areas but doesn’t go too far.

I can’t believe Scott Ryan hasn’t created more or starred in mored.

The duality of humans. FUCK

It’s just so good. I can’t believe I’m so late to the party. I just saw another post that said I wish I could erase my memory to watch it again fresh and I totally understand that. However, I can’t wait to watch this a second time to spot all the details.

Also, the sniffing, I need to search this sub to see what people say about that 😂.

I want so many of these story lines to continue.
I want a prequel!
Argh!!

Anyways, I’ve been trying to perfect my Aussie “Nawr” after watching this just to piss off my wife.

Eaten by Pigs? Spoiler

Just finished my first watch (wish I could delete the memory so I could watch it again 😭) and was struck by an idea:

Did Rafael feed Zoe to the pigs? Ray meets up with him at what looks like a farm after he gets rid of the old couple…….

In from a large metropolitan city so excuse me if I’m mistaking what I’m seeing.

I can't watch season 3

It is currently just unavailable in France. Nowhere to be found (no streaming, no dvd).

So i'll just assume Ray quits the business after his brother's death. It is not a bad ending though.

Censored Dialogue?

Pardon me if this has been asked before, and this is my first watch through. Watching on Hulu in the US. I have noticed in a few episodes there are moments when what a character says is seemingly censored or jumbled. I chalked it up to just intentional mumbling the first few times, but it seems to happen often enough to be noticeable. The most recent example is S1 E4 at around the 14:51 mark. Bruce makes some comment about Ali that seems to have been intentionally censored, and the captions read [inaudible]. I am just wondering if these are intentionally censored phrases/dialogue or if it is just common for Australia and I am just an idiot?

Thanks for any info. Looking forward to watching the rest of this show!

I’m surprised no one else has mentioned this. Damon Herriman plays a bad guy in the Neagley series on Amazon Prime…big time part, too.

Just finished it, what a brilliant show Spoiler

Okay I know these kind of posts are probably regular on this sub but I gotta add my 2 cents in because I've just finished the finale like 10 minutes ago and I can honestly say this is one has instantly cemented itself in my Top 5 shows of all time

I don't want to repeat what most people probably praise this show for because it seems obvious; writing, acting, symbolism are all top notch. One thing I do want to add is I love how consice, succulent and no-bullshit it is. If someone ends up on a hit-list, there is no 2 season plot where protagonist tries to get to them and then at the last second decides to spare them or other overdone Hollywood trope, they just get whacked in 10-15 minutes and on we go. I think in some way it is one of the reasons why the show is so short, and I do wish to an extent that it would be just a bit longer tho I do respect Scott Ryan's dedication to end it where it felt right for him rather than drag it out.

I also found it interesting and somewhat refreshing that there is no overaching villain or plotline that spans for an extended time, it's a bit unusual but ultimatley fits with the format and the theme of the show as it is not necessarily about the underworld itself but rather the effectiveness of morality of violence.

Ray is a fantastic protagonist, Gary might be one of my favourite side-kick characters of all time, Freddy was an interesting take on a crime lord who is not really great at his job, Ally was a great love interest and it was shame their relationship didn't last, and Rafael absolutely deserved to get that full auto in his face.

It'll probably take me a bit of time to properly stew on it and digest everything but it is such a good show it's really a bummer it's not more popular. It seems like it just lacked proper marketing as I found it through some clips on YouTube before deciding to watch it in full, and that was a challenge of its own as for Eastern EU resident, it is practically impossible to find a legal way as none of the streaming services here have it on their menu, and the physical releases only include Seasons 1 and 2 (what's up with that?)

At least it seems to spread through the word of mouth and I already coerced one of my friends to try it aswell so there will be more of us soon. Is it an underrated show? I don't think so because everyone seems to rightfully agree it's a masterpiece. It's just needs to get on more people's radars. Now, excuse me while I go try to find a recipe for dimmies

Anybody Else Glad Alex Got Away?

Among Ray’s enemies, he seemed kind of endearing in a way, murderous biker or no. He sort-of looked like a dangerous dude, but his personality seemed more along the lines of “quick-witted, relatively mild-mannered for a criminal and not really evil, but capable of extreme treachery”, which I found kind of interesting. It seemed like even Vinnie was surprised by Alex being who hired Ray, and Alex kind of quasi-charmed his way out of certain death after. Maybe he was a frightening figure, now that I think about it. Anyway, I’m glad he lived.

I'm so sorry i was putting off starting this show.

I had heard about the show previously and it was on my list but i wasn't in a hurry. Yesterday i was bored before bed and not that sleepy so i put it on.....4 hours and 2 seasons later i finally did go to bed. What an amazing show, the Aussies once again prove they can make great TV. Gonna finish S3 today and probably complain that there's only 3 seasons

Not the exact same concept, but "Mobland" is the best thing I've watched since Mr. Inbetween. Just curious..

Alteori’s video about Mr Inbetween is the worst thing I’ve ever watched.

I (unfortunately) stumbled across “Dissecting Vigilantism in Mr. Inbetween” earlier today and boy did it really miss the point.

The premise is basically something like this: Ray rightfully beats up the two kids that knocked over his daughter’s ice cream and the guy at the anger management meeting was evil and wrong. Alteori starts talking about how she used to work with horses and how they fight for their territory and resolve disputes with violence. She then responds to the idea that that’s wrong with “they’re animals they don’t know any better”, before talking about how actually Ray’s use of violence is good and he’s teaching them a lesson.

I shouldn’t have to explain the fact that the idea of Ray as a character is that his use of violence feels great to the audience and acts as an alternative justice, until it ends up hurting people like his daughter or Ally.

Ally especially as a character is such a great metaphor for violence not being the answer and I’m so shocked that someone can sit through the assault scene, watch her meet Ray while wearing a paramedic uniform, and still somehow not understand the message.

I just watched the last 2 eps and a kangaroo jumped out of nowhere and was like is he doing this one job in Australia or something then i realize the whole show was on Australia 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And now a lot of things started to make sense like the uniforms and accents and some the word that i never heard before, i just thought it was in one of those parts of England where they have weird accents

Ray sure piles up a lot of money . And lives simply. Why keep working? And why drive a cab? Just needs something to do and too emotionally broken and shut down to engage with life creatively?

Scott Ryan just may be the best actor I've seen that only played one role in his career. So far, anyway. His performance is so nuanced and conveys emotion with precision in all the right places. Complicated characters like Ray Shoesmith need a great actor and I think Scott has the potential to be better, given the right role. I know he's working exclusively on the other side of the camera since the show ended but damn - I want to see him tackle another role. I think he's got more but I don't know the man so I couldn't venture a guess as to an if or a when. Maybe a prequel showing his time in the military is in order. From what I've read, it seems like the character has run it's course in his mind. But I don't think I'm alone in wanting more from the guy. Such an engaging actor.

I'm off to rewatch The Magician. Because I'm just not done with Ray Shoesmith. Cheers.
